Philadelphia weather
« on: July 10, 2007, 03:10:34 PM »
I thought I would share what I posted at TWC Classics in terms of a weather report for today with
the addition of a Philadelphia weather thread at TWC Today.

For past reports and chat posts, feel free to visit the TWC Classics' Philadelphia weather thread.
http://www.twcclassics.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3740

Another sweltering day is underway in the City of Brotherly Love as it will be very hot and quite humid
this afternoon. Once again, high temperatures may come very close to reaching the century mark in
some locations. Even if they don't, heat indices in the high majority of reporting sites across the
lower Delaware River valley are above 100°.

While it won't be until late tomorrow or Thursday at the earliest for this heat wave to end, showers
and thunderstorms are possible across the region this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow. It is expected
to reach 90° again tomorrow as well.

For the rest of today, an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 6:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

PLEASE NOTE:
Some locations have already had their temperatures surpass their forecasted peak readings.

Thanks guys!  :)

I decided to take out the two subtitle banners for the local and regional observations non-map screens.
They were just too big.

Here is a southern New Jersey update. For those who don't know, I post my New Jersey reports in this thread since the region is not really popular enough to have its own thread, and is in the Philadelphia metropolitan area (I do the same thing at TWC Classics). When I am at my second home in lower Bucks County, PA however, I post conditions from either Philadelphia International Airport or Philadelphia Northeast Airport.

Today, the heat and humidity that we have experienced in the past several days will come to an end as a cold front will move through. This will bring scattered strong to severe thunderstorms to our region. The weather still looks very warm, but a lot less humid for tomorrow through the upcoming weekend.

I'll post an emulator clip soon...

Scattered thunderstorms, some with heavy rainfall, are moving through the area. More thunderstorms with the possibility of small hail and damaging winds is in the forecast through early tomorrow morning. We will see one more hot and humid day tomorrow. A cold front will then move through late tomorrow night into Friday. High pressure will then move in for the weekend bringing slightly below normal temperatures and lower humidity levels.

Notice how it's a lot cooler in areas that have been hit by rain.

Despite the morning clouds and spotty showers, it is a very nice day today. The humidity is low and temperatures are actually slightly below where we typically see this time of year.

Yikes! 58 degrees for a low in Mount Holly tomorrow! How were you able to make these graphics and skyline backgrounds? It looks very cool!

I didn't make the background. I found it from a site called InterfaceLIFT. They have some neat backgrounds there.

It is a warm and humid and now a stormy day here in Philadelphia. Earlier this evening severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect for Berks and Lancaster counties. Currently a warning is in effect for Chester County until 8:15 PM. The storms have the protential of producing penny sized hail and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. The following locations are in the storm's projected path:

Honey Brook (by 6:55 PM)
Mount Vernon and Glen Roy (7PM)
Elverson and Homeville (7:05 PM)
Parkesburg and Oxford (7:10 PM)
Cochranville (7:15 PM)
Glenmore and Coatesville (7:20 PM)

A greater chance (about 50-60%) of storms is anticipated for the weekend along with continued warm and humid conditions. We should finally dry out by Tuesday or Wednesday.
