THE WEATHER OBSERVATIONS POSTED BELOW AREN'T CURRENT. THEY ARE FROM 85 MINUTES AGO.

For the second time in three days, unseasonably warm weather has made its presence felt in New York City
and across much of the Interstate 95 corridor. High temperatures are expected again to be into the 70s
for the western half of the region with Long Island and coastal Connecticut being the cooler areas.
But it'll cool off by tomorrow as readings will be 10° to 15° cooler than today.
So enjoy the pleasantly warm weather that I'd bottle for July and August.

PLEASE NOTE:
I was unable to gather the latest weather observations and forecast information for my northeastern United States
regional weather maps. So, I'm only posting the metropolitan area maps.

For the better part of the last 10 to 15 days, we've seen above normal temperatures for this second half of April.
Therefore, it's been unseasonably warm. Today is one of those days. At this hour, readings are primarily in the 70s
with forecast highs nearing 80° in the warmest locations.

This is pretty much a very serene spring afternoon in the New York City metropolitan area.
It is a great time to go enjoy the weather because changes are in store come this weekend when
the chance of rain arrives. Temperatures will finally cool down to around seasonable levels by early next week.

Thanks for the posting of the National Weather Service weather statement for my area, Mike.
I appreciate the heads up.

For the best part of this week so far, we've seen the opposite of what the majority of April had been.
This time it is unseasonably chilly. During this overnight period, we are seeing temperatures at least 5° to 10°
below normal in New York City for this time of year. Temperatures are expected to dip even colder in the
northern suburbs into the low to mid 30s prior to sunrise and a few records are threatened. As a matter of fact,
at this hour, Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York has tied the record low for this date at 35°.

Clear skies can be found regionwide with the lone exception among the reporting sites listed below being
Sussex, New Jersey under mostly cloudy skies.

With the unseasonably cold temperatures, a Frost Advisory for almost all of the northern half of New Jersey,
southern Westchester County in New York and coastal Connecticut is in effect until 7:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time
while a Freeze Warning for western Passaic County in New Jersey, northern Westchester County and the rest of
the Lower Hudson River Valley plus the rest of Connecticut will expire at 7:00 AM as well.

Clouds will roll in later this morning and rain will develop during the afternoon hours with high temperatures slightly
below normal through Saturday. This will be the start of an unsettled weather pattern for the next five days
with the threat of showers each day.

Four days after we received rain from a coastal storm off the mid-Atlantic seaboard,
the New York City metropolitan area is getting another round of showers and steady rain this afternoon
with temperatures that are unseasonably cool for mid-May. Just about all locations are in the 50s
at this hour with the lone exception being Sussex, New Jersey right now at 49°.
The normal high temperature for New York City's Central Park is 70°.

It will remain unsettled for the entire upcoming weekend, but it won't be a washout by any means.
It is expected to be slight above normal for tomorrow as readings could top out in the mid 70s.

I will post the graphics pages as soon as I can.

In what is expected to be the first heat wave of 2008 is now underway. The temperature at Central Park
in New York City has surpassed 90° for the first time this spring as unseasonably hot weather has invaded
the mid-Atlantic and northeastern regions of the United States. It is a far cry from yesterday's pleasant
temperatures in the 70s. With peak readings coming close, but not expected to break any records and
the humidity creeping up to create steambath conditions, the National Weather Service issued a pair
of statements to advise residents of deteriorating air quality and heat index readings approaching
or passing the 100° plateau.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Upton, New York on June 7, 2008

AN AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect until 1:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Sunday morning.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory
for the following counties...

Bronx County
Kings County (Brooklyn)
Nassau County
New York County (Manhattan)
Orange County
Putnam County
Queens County
Richmond County (Staten Island)
Rockland County
Suffolk County
Westchester County

Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100
for the pollutant of ozone. The Air Quality Index (or AQI) was created as an easy way to correlate levels
of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern.

When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals
consider limiting strenuous outdoor activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be
especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with
pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider
consulting their physician.

A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York State residents can stay informed on
the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1-800-535-1345.

A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until 6:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Heat Advisory which is in effect until
6:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

Hazy, hot and humid weather will be in place this afternoon as temperatures climb into the lower and middle 90s
and surface dew points climb into the lower and middle 70s. This will create a heat index ranging from
100° to 104° for New York City, northeast New Jersey and western portions of the lower Hudson Valley.

A heat advisory is issued when high humidities are expected to combine with hot temperatures to make it feel
like it is 100° to 104°. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up
on relatives and neighbors.

As of now, this heat wave is expected to last through Tuesday and above normal readings in the 80s
will extend to the end of next week.

Re: New York City weather
« Reply #66 on: June 09, 2008, 04:35:00 PM »
Following Saturday's high temperature of 94° and yesterday at 93° for Central Park,
it will be yet another hot day for New York City and across the entire metropolitan area
and the northeastern part of the country. Obviously Mother Nature didn't get the memo that it is still
officially spring and not the dog days of summer. We're only nine days into June, for Christ sakes.
For neither day, they weren't records though for that reporting site.

However, just a few miles east of Central Park, a record high temperature of 96° was set at
LaGuardia Airport yesterday, tying the old record of 96° in 1984.

Records for today's date are being threatened and could possibly be broken, but the heat is expected to be worse.
The heat and humidity will once again create air quality problems and the atmosphere could be ripe again
for thunderstorms to develop at any time between now and tomorrow night. In addition to an Air Quality Alert,
an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 7:00 PM tonight for all of New York City and parts of
northeastern New Jersey. See the National Weather Service statements below for more details.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Upton, New York on June 9, 2008

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect until 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening.

Hazy, hot and humid conditions are expected this afternoon and once again on Tuesday.
High temperatures are expected to top off in the upper 90s to around 100° this afternoon and Tuesday
with dew points running in the upper 60s to lower 70s. This will result in heat indices between 102° and 107°
this afternoon and likely the same on Tuesday.

New York City residents should call 311 to identify cooling center locations and to obtain "beat the heat"
safety tips.

An Excessive Heat Warning is issued when high humidities are expected to combine with hot temperatures
to make it feel like it is 105° or greater. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room,
stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which
heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and
check up on relatives and neighbors.

AN AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect until 1:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday morning.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory
for the following counties...

Bronx County
Kings County (Brooklyn)
Nassau County
New York County (Manhattan)

A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York State residents can stay informed
on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1-800-535-1345.

With today's maximum temperature surpassing the 90° mark for the third straight day, It is now officially
the first heat wave of 2008. Could New York City see its first 100° day of the year before Dallas does?
We sure will find out. More of the same is forecast for tomorrow.

PLEASE NOTE:
Belmar, New Jersey, Morristown, New Jersey and Westhampton Beach, New York each did not provide
their latest weather conditions. Morristown is only shown in my metropolitan area forecast map.
Despite the location not covered by the National Weather Service's Upton, New York Forecast Office,
Poughkeepsie, New York replaces Belmar among the regional sites for this report.

With Morristown not on the metropolitan area current conditions maps, I removed Wayne, New Jersey from them
and put Parsippany, New Jersey on it instead. Wayne is at 98° under sunny skies and a heat index of 100°.
Its forecast for the rest of this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies under hot and hazy conditions with a
20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Wayne’s forecast high temperature is expected to reach 99°
with a heat index as high as 106°.

Edison, New Jersey and Huntington, New York have each surpassed their forecast high temperatures for today.

Re: New York City weather
« Reply #67 on: June 10, 2008, 03:00:00 PM »
It is certainly another very hot day in the Big Apple this afternoon as for the fourth straight late spring day,
we are seeing temperatures well into the 90s in nearly all areas. The few exceptions being of course at the
south-facing shorelines.

High temperature records may be threatened once again today, a few locations will top out around 100° while
most everywhere else should peak in the 90s. LaGuardia Airport set a new record for the second straight day with
their high of 99° yesterday. Central Park fell 1° short of theirs with its high of 96°.

There is the chance of showers and thunderstorms late today into tonight as a cold front will move through to
finally break the heat wave. A few of these storms might be severe and even more so at least 40 to 50 miles
north of New York City. Locations such as Dutchess County in the lower Hudson River Valley of southeastern
New York State, they're under a Tornado Watch until 6:00 PM tonight.

For now, everyone here in the New York City metropolitan area will have to deal with the high heat and humid
conditions for the next several hours until relief arrives by tomorrow. Temperatures by then will still be above
the normal high 78° by staying in the 80s through the rest of the week.

An Excessive Heat Warning and Air Quality Alert is once again in effect for New York City and
northeastern New Jersey. See the National Weather Service statements below for more details.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Upton, New York on June 10, 2008

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect until 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

Hot and humid conditions will continue today. Temperatures will once again climb into the upper 90s with
dew point temperatures likely around the 70° mark. This will result in heat index values between 103° to 106°
this afternoon.

AN AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect until 1:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday morning.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory
for the following counties...

Bronx County
Kings County (Brooklyn)
Nassau County
New York County (Manhattan)

A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York State residents can stay informed
on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1-800-535-1345.

It is an unusually very warm to hot day in the northeastern part of the country today as temperatures are
8° to 10° above normal for the first week of September. It did reach 90° during the previous hour and
some locations are above that temperature right now.

While it may be bone dry right now, plenty of rain is on the way for the first half of this upcoming weekend.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to make its way up the eastern seaboard and give
New York City a good dose of rain.

But for now, we turn the clock back at least a few weeks in terms of what we'd typically see here.

After nearly a chilly night during the overnight hours this morning, this afternoon will end up being the coolest we've seen in months. It's safe to say probably since April or May. With the Autumnal Equinox just within reach, the New York City metropolitan area is getting a fall preview today.

With beautiful skies overhead, temperatures are crisp and cool and very fall-like. Readings across the region are anywhere between the upper 50s to mid 60s at this hour and are expected to rise around 70° later today.

Temperatures are expected to moderate back to seasonable levels or even slightly above normal this weekend, but if you're gearing up for fall, today's your day.

Graphics pages will be done as soon as possible.
