SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT by the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, MN on May 25, 2008
A TORNADO WARNING is in effect until 5:30 PM Central Daylight Time.

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a Tornado Warning for the following locations:

southeastern Anoka County
northern Washington County
extreme northeastern Ramsey County

At 4:55 PM Central Daylight Time, Doppler radar and trained spotters indicated a tornado near Lino Lakes
or about 7 miles east of Blaine. Radar showed the tornadic storm and moving east at 35 MPH.

Locations impacted include Centerville, Forest Lake, Hugo, Scandia and Lino Lakes.

If you are caught outside, seek shelter in a nearby reinforced building. As a last resort, seek shelter in a culvert,
ditch or low spot and cover your head with your hands.

After a cool mid-August morning and below average readings of late, it is expected to be a considerably warmer day today.

Following the lift of fog from within the last hour or two when a Dense Fog Advisory was in effect, fair weather has taken over across much of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Most of the entire Upper Midwest region of the country has little or no wind at all in all locations.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms late this afternoon and into tonight as high temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 80s. It will remain primarily pleasant for the reminder of the week.

The weather in the Upper Midwest region of the country is unseasonably warm today and temperatures pushing near 90° and in some spots it is breezy. But, this warmth won't last.  In the Dakotas, it is raining and at least 25° cooler, but the air will modify before reaching the Twin Cities.  It is expected to be in the 70s for the rest of this week.

It is an unseasonably cold and blustery morning in the Twin Cities as temperatures are only in the 30s with some locations reporting windy conditions above 20 MPH. The northern and eastern portions of the metropolitan area are overcast while from Minneapolis and to the south and west, skies are sunny. Wind chill readings are as low as the mid 20s in a few spots.

From an Upper Midwest regional perspective, head north and east and you'll find snow showers falling in places like Marquette, Michigan and also near Duluth, Minnesota. Go into the Dakotas and you'll experience slightly colder temperatures but wind chills even lower.

While under fair conditions, temperatures will moderate over the next few days as high readings are expected to be near 50° tomorrow.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT by the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, Minnesota on December 22, 2008
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from 12:00 AM to 3:00 PM Central Standard Time on Tuesday.

The Wind Chill Advisory is no longer in effect. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to 3:00 PM Central Standard Time on Tuesday.

Another low pressure system will strengthen over the Lee of the Rockies this afternoon and move toward the upper Midwest tonight into Tuesday. Snow will develop across east central Minnesota and into west central Wisconsin late this evening and especially overnight. The bulk of the snow is expected to fall between midnight and 9:00 AM Central Standard Time on Tuesday which will likely cause travel difficulties during the Tuesday morning commute.

Total snowfall accumulations by Tuesday afternoon will range between 3 and 5 inches across east central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.

The Wind Chill Advisory has ended. Wind chills during this cold air episode from Saturday night through this morning dropped as low as 30 to 35 below across east central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect through 12:00 PM Central Standard Time on Friday.

A wind chill warning remains in effect until 12:00 PM Central Standard Time on Friday.

Bitterly cold Arctic air coupled with northwest winds near 10 MPH will produce wind chill readings from -35° to -45° overnight and Thursday morning.

Some improvement in the wind chill values will occur Thursday afternoon as winds diminish some and temperatures rise, but wind chill readings across the region will still be near -25°.

Wind chill readings will drop back down to -30° to -40° across the area Thursday night into Friday morning as a
persistent northwest wind continues.

A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and winds will create dangerously cold wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. When venturing outdoors, make sure that you dress in layers and wear a hat and gloves.

Another frigid night for residents of the Twin Cities metropolitan area has kept many indoors during this overnight period. Subzero temperatures and in some areas the wind chill readings make it dangerous to be outside. The wind chill readings are not quite as bad as it is in the northern part of Minnesota and the Canadian Prairies, but it is still bad.
