... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Friday...

* locations... Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island.

* Hazard types... snow and blowing snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches... locally higher.

* Winds... north 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Wind chills... from zero to 5 below zero late tonight and Friday.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

* Temperatures... falling through the 20s late tonight and through
the teens on Friday.

* Timing... occasional light snow will become a steady wind driven
heavy snowfall tonight into Friday morning.

* Impacts... heavy snowfall... and blowing and drifting of powdery
snow tonight into Friday will create whiteout conditions...
making travel conditions extremely dangerous and impacting snow
plowing operations. Wind chills below zero could lead to
frostbite or hypothermia for anyone exposed to the cold.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.

... Band of heavy snow moving into Long Island...

At 1045 PM National Weather Service Doppler radar showed a band of
heavy snow moving off the central New Jersey coast and headed for
Nassau and Suffolk counties. The band should reach the South Shore
of Long Island by 1130 PM and overspread mainly southern Nassau
and most of Suffolk County through 1 am. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2
inches per hour are expected with this band. With locally higher
amounts possible in the core of the band. Near white conditions
are likely at times with this band. Persons are urged to stay home
and avoid travel during this time.

WIDESPREAD HEAVY SNOW HAS ENDED...BUT THERE WILL BE SOME
LINGERING SOUND-EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS SUFFOLK COUNTY INTO
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. AN ADDITIONAL INCH OR SO OF ACCUMULATION IS
POSSIBLE.

IN ADDITION...THE COMBINATION OF TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 10 TO
15 DEGREES WITH NORTHWEST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO
AS HIGH AS 40 MPH WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILL VALUES RANGING FROM 0
TO -10. WIND CHILLS BELOW ZERO COULD LEAD TO FROSTBITE OR
HYPOTHERMIA FOR ANYONE EXPOSED TO THE COLD.

Northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph will diminish fairly quickly this
evening to 5 to 10 mph... and then to around 5 mph. With
abnormally cold temperatures ranging from 5 above zero to as low
as 10 below zero... the wind chill will range from zero to 10
below zero. Wind chills below zero could lead to frostbite or
hypothermia for anyone exposed to the cold.

First wind chill advisory issued here since 2004! 10 years ago!

... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to
6 PM EST Tuesday...

* locations... northeast New Jersey... southwest Connecticut... and
southeast New York except for eastern Long Island.

* Hazard types... bitter cold and wind.

* Wind chill values... as low as 20 below zero in Orange... Putnam
and western Passaic counties... and 15 below elsewhere.

* Winds... west 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph.

* Temperatures... dropping to the single digits tonight... and
rising only to 8 to 13 above on Tuesday.

* Timing... late tonight into Tuesday.

* Impacts... prolonged exposure to the bitter cold and wind could
lead to frostbite and hypothermia.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 PM
EST Tuesday...

* locations... New York City... northeast New Jersey and portions
of the lower Hudson Valley.

* Hazards... strong winds.

* Winds... west 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing... strong winds will develop late this evening and
continue into Tuesday afternoon.

* Impacts... difficult driving conditions in strong winds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph...
or gusts of 46 to 57 mph... are expected or occurring. Winds this
strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution.

... Flood Watch remains in effect from 11 am EST this morning
through late tonight...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southern Connecticut... northeast New Jersey and
southeast New York... including the following areas... in
southern Connecticut... northern Fairfield... northern
Middlesex... northern New Haven... northern New London...
southern Fairfield... southern Middlesex... southern New Haven
and southern New London. In northeast New Jersey... eastern
Bergen... eastern Essex... eastern Passaic... eastern Union...
Hudson... western Bergen... western Essex... western Passaic and
western Union. In southeast New York... Bronx... Kings
(Brooklyn)... New York (Manhattan)... northeastern Suffolk...
northern Nassau... northern Queens... northern Westchester...
northwestern Suffolk... Orange... Putnam... Richmond (staten
island)... Rockland... southeastern Suffolk... southern Nassau...
southern Queens... southern Westchester and southwestern
Suffolk.

* From 11 am EST this morning through late tonight.

* Low pressure moving into eastern Canada will drag a cold front
through the region late this evening. This system will tap into
Gulf and Atlantic moisture to produce heavy rainfall this
afternoon through this evening.

* Rainfall amounts from 1 1/2 to 2 inches... with locally higher
amounts... are likely to cause significant urban... low lying and
poor drainage flooding during the watch period. In addition to
urban and poor drainage flooding... flashy small stream and river
flooding is possible. Conditions are also favorable for ice jam
flooding. If any of the larger rivers or streams flood... this
could linger awhile after rain has ended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

... Wind Advisory now in effect from noon today to 10 PM EST this
evening...

* locations... New York City... Long Island... and coastal southeast
Connecticut.

* Hazards... strong winds.

* Winds... south 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing... gusts over 45 mph will be possible during the entire
advisory period... but more likely to occur late this afternoon
into early this evening.

* Impacts... difficult driving conditions in strong winds. Small
tree limbs and branches could be brought down with isolated
power outages possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph...
or gusts of 46 to 57 mph... are expected or occurring. Winds this
strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution.

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am EST
Wednesday...

... Sub-zero wind chills tonight through Friday morning...
... Very cold through Friday night...

Wind chills tonight through Friday morning will range from five
below to as low as 15 below due to the combination of west winds 5
to 10 mph and temperatures in the single digits to as low as 5
below.

High temperatures will only top off in the mid teens on Friday.

Slight moderation is expected for Saturday... with temperatures
from the mid 20s well inland... to the lower and mid 30s across
Long Island and coastal Connecticut.

Prolonged exposure to the cold and wind could lead to frostbite
and hypothermia. If you venture outdoors... make sure you wear a
hat and gloves.

The prolonged cold can also lead to additional health hazards such
as exposure to fumes from poorly ventilated emergency
generators... and property damage such as frozen and bursting
water pipes including those of fire sprinkler systems... and fires
from improperly used heaters. Be weather ready and visit the
National Weather Service web site at weather.Gov for winter
weather safety tips.
