... Dry weather will enhance wildfire spread today...

While there was some light rainfall across the region in the last
24 hours... conditions will dry out quickly this afternoon.

This combined with extremely dry fuels... gusty northwest winds
up to 25 mph... and relative humidity values of 30 to 35 percent
will enhance the risk of wildfire spread... if ignited.

Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards weather radio or visit our web
site at weather.Gov/NYC for further details and updates.

* Impacts... rapid fire spread if ignition occurs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

are expected or occurring. A combination of strong winds... low
relative humidity... and dry fuels will create explosive fire
growth potential.

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 6 am to 6 PM EST Sunday.

* Locations... southern Connecticut and Long Island.

... High surf advisory in effect from midnight tonight to midnight
EST Wednesday night...

* locations... Atlantic facing beaches... and low lying coastal
locales along the Great South Bay.

* Waves and surf... 7 to 11 ft breaking surf at the Atlantic facing
beaches.

* Beach erosion impacts... the combination of storm tide and high
surf will cause minor beach erosion issues late tonight through
late Wednesday night. Particularly susceptible locations will be
around Gilgo Beach... and Post Sandy breaches.

* Tidal departures... 2 to 2 1/2 ft above astronomical tides.

* Coastal flood impacts... localized flooding of the most
vulnerable shore roads and/or basements due to height of storm
tide and heavy rainfall during times of high tide between 3 am
and 6 am. There is no significant threat to life and any impact
on property is minimal.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

402 PM EST Tue Nov 26 2013

... Flood Watch in effect from midnight EST tonight through
Wednesday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a

* Flood Watch for all of southern Connecticut... southeast New York
and northeast New Jersey...

* from midnight EST tonight through Wednesday afternoon.

* Low pressure over the southeast states late this afternoon will
intensify and move up the coast tonight... passing over the area
on Wednesday. The low will tap into Gulf and Atlantic moisture
to produce heavy rainfall mainly from late tonight into
Wednesday morning.

* Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches... with local amounts of up to 4 inches
in and near the higher terrain north and west of New York
City... is likely to cause significant urban... low lying and poor
drainage flooding at a time when many Holiday travelers may
already be heading to their destinations. Many small streams
will approach bank full... and some may experience minor
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

This is absolutely absurd.  850mb temps right now are around 17C, which is above normal, EVEN IF THIS WAS JULY! If we were able to completely mix down from 850mb, our temps would be in the mid 80's! Central Park hit 68 degrees this morning, smashing the record, BEFORE THE SUN EVEN CAME UP. I'm sorry, but this is sickening how bad the climate has gotten.

Wow!

NYC Sets Winter Record High Minimum Temperature…

New York City had a low temperature of 61° on December 22, 2013. That is the first time during meteorological or astronomical winter that the temperature did not fall below 60°. The low temperature was 3.628σ above the normal low temperature for the date (1981-2010 baseline). The old record high minimum temperature during either meteorological or astronomical winter was 59°, which was achieved on January 4, 1950 and December 4, 1998.

The previous latest 60° or above low temperature before meteorological and astronomical winter had occurred on November 27, 1896 (60°). The previous earliest 60° or above low temperature after meteorological or astronomical winter had occurred on March 25, 1913 (61°).

New York City’s records go back to 1869.

At 613 PM EST...the National Weather Service was tracking a line of
snow squalls extending from Poughkeepsie NY to Caldwell New
Jersey...moving southeast at 25 mph. Brief whiteout conditions and
snow accumulations of up to 1/2 inch have been reported with
this activity.

The snow will be briefly heavy...with wind gusts up to 30 mph...and
visibilities of 1/4 mile or less. Less than an inch of snow is
expected...but temperatures will rapidly fall below freezing causing
any wet snow and slush to quickly refreeze.

Anyone traveling into this evening is urged to use extra caution.

... Blizzard Warning in effect from 6 PM Thursday to 1 PM EST
Friday...

The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Blizzard
Warning... which is in effect from 6 PM Thursday to 1 PM EST
Friday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Locations... Long Island including Nassau and Suffolk counties.

* Hazard types... snow and blowing snow.

* Accumulations... up to around 1 inch of snow is forecast
overnight through the Thursday morning rush hour. An additional
7 to 9 inches of snow is forecast Thursday evening through
Friday. Total accumulations of 8 to 10 inches are forecast.

* Winds... north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower 20s.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less.

* Timing... the heaviest snow and the strongest winds will occur Thursday
night into Friday.

* Impacts... blowing and drifting snow will produce dangerous
travel conditions. Wind chills from 5 degrees below zero to 5
degrees above zero will produce extreme cold impacts.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
