Think the winds will be stronger.

... High wind watch in effect from Wednesday evening through late
Wednesday night...

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a high wind
watch... which is in effect from Wednesday evening through late
Wednesday night.

* Locations... southern Connecticut... Long Island... New York City
and neighboring portions of Westchester County and northeast New
Jersey.

* Hazards... damaging wind gusts.

* Winds... south 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing... Wednesday night... especially from late evening into the
overnight.

* Impacts... these strong winds... in combination with heavy
rain... could bring down whole trees... large tree limbs... power
lines and unsecured outdoor objects. This could pose a hazard to
anyone out driving or walking Wednesday night... and to houses
and other structures near larger trees.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue
to monitor the latest forecasts.

NWS zone forecast for tonight for my area:

Showers in the evening...then showers with isolated thunderstorms after midnight. Widespread fog in the evening. Locally heavy rainfall possible after midnight. Very windy with lows in the upper 40s. South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph... increasing to 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph after midnight. chance of rain near 100 percent.

The models have been consistent with 60-80mph wind gusts tonight:

With heavy enough precip, I'm sure these gusts will come to fruition.

Upton says thunder is possible. Some reports of Thundersnow have already happened.

Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 9pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 24. Windy, with a north wind 26 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible.

National Weather Service Doppler radar and observations indicate
a large band of precipitation over the area... producing a mixture
of snow... sleet and rain. Temperatures in some locations are below
freezing and any rain that is falling here is freezing on contact
resulting in treacherous conditions. Precipitation is expected to
transition between a wintry mix and all snow through 11 PM. In
areas of all snow... snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour with
near zero visibility are expected to occur. A few rumbles of
thunder are also possible. In addition... windy conditions with
gusts between 40 and 50 mph will lead to dangerous travel
conditions.

Travel is not recommended and should be avoided if possible. Those
that must travel should do so with extreme caution.

While the heavy snow has ended across the area... roads across the
region remain either impassable or treacherous. In addition...
gusty northwest winds will produce blowing and drifting of the
snow at times... limiting visibilities. Travel is not recommended
and only if absolutely necessary.
