A record maximum low temperature of 50 degrees was set at Bridgeport
CT yesterday. This ties the old record of 50 degrees last set
in 2003.

The months of September... October and November make up the
meteorological fall season. This past fall was warmer and wetter
then average across the tri-state region. In addition... there was an
unusual late October snowfall. Normal refers to the average fall
temperatures/precipitation over the last 30 years. Here are some

... Record annual precipitation set at Newark NJ...

So far today... Newark NJ has received 0.13 inches of rainfall. This
brings the yearly total to 65.53 inches... which breaks the previous
record of 65.50 inches set in 1983. Records have been kept at this
site since 1931.

strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Kent to Carmel to
Tarrytown to Elizabeth to Kendall Park... or along a line extending

Elizabeth to 6 miles west of North Brunswick township... and moving
east at 45 mph.

Gusty winds up to 50 mph are expected with these storms.

... Statement on record annual precipitation at New York Central
Park...

1983 was a record-breaking year for annual precipitation across the
New York City metropolitan area. During 1983... records were
established at Newark... La Guardia... and JFK airports... as well as
at Central Park. Recorded annual precipitation for 1983 at the
National Weather Service weather station at Central Park totaled
80.56 inches... more than any other year on record. This
record... however... has been in dispute since 1983... when the annual
summary of the local climatological data publication for Central
Park... published by the NOAA National climatic data
center... indicated that 1983 precipitation was determined by NWS
eastern region to be excessive due to malfunctioning equipment.

This issue has received renewed interest as 2011 totaled 72.81
inches of precipitation at Central Park... the second highest total
measured.

To investigate and resolve the record precipitation issue at Central
Park... a team comprised of representatives from the National Weather
Service eastern region Headquarters... the National climatic data
center... the New York state climate office... the northeast regional
climate center... National Weather Service Headquarters and the
National Weather Service New York... N.Y... .weather forecast office
analyzed the 1983 precipitation data for both Central Park and
surrounding sites. The team also reviewed local service records and
climate logs and consulted with a former National Weather Service
employee who was involved in the 1983 decision at National Weather
Service eastern region Headquarters.

Given no documented record of a malfunction in the precipitation
gauge... and no clear evidence of erroneous observations when
compared to surrounding stations... the consensus of the team is that
the 80.56 inch annual precipitation value for 1983 at Central Park
is representative and that had an equipment malfunction
occurred... it would not have significantly affected the annual
precipitation total.

Further analysis of the 1983 precipitation data by the National
climatic data center resulted in a determination to certify the 1983
annual precipitation record at Central Park... thus making it
official. With a total of 72.81 inches of precipitation recorded at
Central Park last year... 2011 will officially be regarded as the
second wettest year on record at Central Park... with 1983 as the
wettest.

In summary for Central Park in Manhattan...

During 1983... 80.56 inches of precipitation occurred which was 30.62
inches above normal and is the official record for annual precipitation.

During 2011... 72.81 inches of precipitation occurred which was 22.87
inches above normal and is the second highest annual precipitation amount.

Precipitation records for Central Park date back to 1869.

Advisory... which is in effect from 3 am to 10 am EST Thursday.

* Locations... Suffolk County.

* Hazards... strong gusty winds.

* Winds... east 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing... late tonight into Thursday morning.

* Impacts... small tree limbs may be downed causing isolated
power outages. Residents are urged to secure or bring indoors
any loose outdoor objects.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph...
or gusts of 46 to 57 mph... are expected or occurring. Winds this
strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution.

This wind storm won't be as bad as the past two windstorms we had according to the models, but it still would be decent.
