...AN ARCTIC AIRMASS TO BRING FRIGID TEMPERATURES TO NORTH TEXAS
THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...

AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL ARRIVE IN NORTH TEXAS TONIGHT AND BRING
AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES TO THE REGION.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BELOW FREEZING BEGINNING AFTER MIDNIGHT
TONIGHT AND SHOULD BRIEFLY RISE ABOVE FREEZING SATURDAY AFTERNOON
ACROSS MOST OF NORTH TEXAS. TEMPERATURES WILL THEN FALL BACK BELOW
FREEZING SATURDAY NIGHT. STRONG NORTH WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH
GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH WILL ACCOMPANY THE ARCTIC FRONT TONIGHT AND
THURSDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN FRIGID WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS AND
SINGLE DIGITS ON THURSDAY ACROSS NORTH TEXAS. WIND CHILLS MAY
DROP BELOW ZERO FOR AREAS NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20 FRIDAY MORNING
AND AGAIN SATURDAY MORNING.

IN ADDITION TO THE ARCTIC AIR...A CHANCE OF LIGHT RAIN WILL BE
POSSIBLE THIS EVENING...BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO PATCHY LIGHT
FREEZING RAIN OR DRIZZLE BEFORE DAYBREAK THURSDAY MORNING. AREAS
NORTH OF A GATESVILLE TO ATHENS LINE WILL BE THE MOST LIKELY
LOCATIONS TO SEE FROZEN PRECIPITATION. NO SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS
OF ICE ARE EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...SOME PATCHY LIGHT
ICING IS POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT...MAINLY ON ELEVATED BRIDGES
AND OVERPASSES THAT REMAIN WET AS THE ARCTIC AIR MOVES IN. THIS
COULD RESULT IN SOME SLICK SPOTS FOR THE THURSDAY MORNING COMMUTE.

RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAKE PREPARATIONS NOW. A HARD FREEZE CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EXPOSED WATER PIPES AND CAN DAMAGE SENSITIVE
VEGETATION. OUTDOOR PETS WILL ALSO REQUIRE PLENTY OF SHELTER AND
PROTECTION FROM FRIGID TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS. EXTRA
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WILL BE NEEDED FOR ANYONE EXPECTED TO BE
OUTDOORS DURING THIS TIME... ESPECIALLY CHILDREN GOING TO AND
FROM SCHOOL. LAYERS OF CLOTHING AND AN INSULATED WINTER COAT AND
HAT WORK BEST TO INSULATE THE BODY FROM THE EXTREME COLD.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY...FOR WIND CHILLS BELOW ZERO AT TIMES...
REMAINS IN EFFECT BETWEEN MIDNIGHT CST AND 10 AM CST FRIDAY.

LOW TEMPERATURES EARLY FRIDAY MORNING WILL RANGE BETWEEN 10 TO
15 DEGREES ACROSS THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY AREA. THE VERY COLD LOW
TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH STRONG NORTH WINDS BETWEEN 15 AND 20
MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL RESULT IN FRIGID WIND CHILLS THROUGH

ZERO TO FIVE BELOW ZERO ARE EXPECTED.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO
THE COLD MAY RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF
PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.  IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...WEAR A
HEAVY COAT...HAT AND GLOVES.

The arctic blast for Dallas has ended. Today's weather was wonderful...sunny with a high in the mid-50s.

Here is the report from the arctic blast. Although no record lows were set, it was indeed very cold. :brr:

Surprisingly, the snowfall total at DFW Airport for Sunday morning was only 0.01 inches. As I said earlier, we got about 4.5 inches at my house, so the totals were completely different around all of the DFW metroplex. McKinney, Texas (north of here) saw 8 inches on the ground! :o

Spring has come today, though. The high was in the upper-60s; tomorrow's forecast calls for mid-70s. :D

Let's roll out the shorts...the Metroplex hit 80 degrees today!

This is our first 80 degree day since October 20, 2009. No, this is certainly not normal. If we had gone only a couple of weeks longer without reaching 80 degrees, then we would have set a new record for the most consecutive days with temperatures below the 80 degree mark. Normally, we get that one 80 degree day that stands out in January and/or February, but not this year. :(

Temperatures are supposed to stay at or above 80 for the next couple of days...now I'm starting to feel my spring. :thrilled:

I wonder when our first 100 degree day will be this year. We are supposed to have an extremely warm summer this year. Possibly with today's high forecasted around the same as yesterday's, we might make it.

PERSONS INVOLVED IN VIGOROUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ARE URGED TO TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. WEAR LOOSE FITTING AND LIGHT-COLORED CLOTHING. BE SURE TO CHECK ON PERSONS WITH HEALTH PROBLEMS AND THE ELDERLY... AS THEY ARE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. NEVER LEAVE YOUNG CHILDREN OR PETS IN AN ENCLOSED VEHICLE...
