Triple digit heat continues to bake North Texas today as high temperatures in nearly all areas are above 100°. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport set a new daily record with its high temperature of 107° at 4:29 PM Central Daylight Time yesterday afternoon, breaking the old mark of 105° back in 1998.

Here are two weather statements from the National Weather Service concerning Dallas and Fort Worth.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas on August 4, 2008

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect until 7:00 PM Central Daylight Time.

This Excessive Heat Warning includes the following counties in North Texas:
Collin County
Dallas County
Delta County
Denton County
Fannin County
Grayson County
Hopkins County
Hunt County
Kaufman County
Lamar County
Rains County
Rockwall County
Tarrant County
Van Zandt County

Dangerous summer heat will continue today. Afternoon high temperatures will range between 103° and 107°. These hot
temperatures combined with the humidity will produce heat index values near 110° during the late afternoon. In
addition, morning low temperatures will only fall into the lower 80s in urban areas and mid to upper 70s in outlying areas.

Persons involved in any outdoor activities are urged to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Wear loose fitting and light colored clothing. Be sure to check on persons with health problems and the elderly as they are the most susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Never leave people or pets in an enclosed vehicle even for a short time as temperatures can quickly rise to life threatening levels in just a few minutes!

AN AIR POLLUTION WATCH - LEVEL ORANGE is in effect through the end of tonight.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued a Level Orange Air Pollution Watch for the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Monday, August 4, 2008.

Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Monday. Ozone levels could reach the level Orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) category.

Elevated concentrations of ozone can act as a lung irritant. Individuals with chronic lung disease such as asthma and emohysema as well as the elderly and young children are particularly sensitive to ozone and should attempt to avoid exposure. To avoid exposure, minimize exertion outdoors during the midday to early evening hours or stay indoors in an air-conditioned room during this time.

For more information on ozone, visit the TCEQ ozone data page (use lower case letters):
www.tceq.state.tx.us/nav/data/zone_data.html

From record-breaking highs to unseasonably cool temperatures, Dallas has sure experienced it all this summer. An upper level low seems to be "stuck" over most of Texas, bringing heavy rainfall and much, much cooler temperatures. Though the days are gloomy, the rainfall is very beneficial. Here is the Dallas forecast for today. Enjoy. :)

Tropical Storm Ike is passing to the east of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area this afternoon and tonight and will provide some moderately rainy and breezy conditions from the storm's west side. Temperatures at this hour are primarily in the mid to upper 70s with a few spots at or above the 80° mark. Conditions will gradually improve as the weekend progresses. See the latest National Weather Service statements for complete details.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas on September 13, 2008

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect through Sunday morning.

This Flood Watch includes the following counties in Texas:
Anderson County
Collin County
Dallas County
Delta County
Ellis County
Fannin County
Freestone County
Grayson County
Henderson County
Hopkins County
Hunt County
Kaufman County
Lamar County
Leon County
Limestone County
Navarro County
Rains County
Robertson County
Rockwall County
Van Zandt County

Tropical Storm Ike continues to move north through the southeastern portions of North Texas. Heavy rain is accompanying the storm and extends up to 100 miles from the center of circulation. Other rain bands extend up to 200 miles from the center of the circulation. Locations along and east of Interstate 35 east can expect 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts of up to 6 inches near the track of the storm center. The rain will be heavy at times falling at two inches per hour or more. This will cause rapid rises in creeks and streams as well as flooded roadways. Significant flash flooding is possible in the watch area. As Ike moves into Arkansas Saturday night, the potential for flash flooding will rapidly diminish but residual flooding will likely remain into Sunday.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding. You should monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued for your area.

A WIND ADVISORY is in effect until 1:00 AM Central Daylight Time on Sunday morning.

Tropical Storm Ike is tracking through the eastern portions of North Texas, but its expansive wind field is producing strong winds across much of North Texas. Locations along and just west of the Interstate 35 corridor will continue to experience sustained wind speeds around 25 MPH with higher gusts through tonight. The winds are expected to subside overnight as Ike moves into Arkansas.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 20 to 30 MPH are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PLEASE NOTE:
The graphics pages will be completed as soon as possible. Since this is an occasional weather event that we don’t see in Dallas very often, I’m going to post both forecast map pages for this afternoon AND tonight. Usually I do just one time period.

Possible record breaking warmth this afternoon in North Texas will give way to possible severe weather during the overnight hours of tomorrow morning are expected ahead of a storm system in the central Rocky Mountains. Temperatures are about 20° above normal for late December in Dallas and even for Lone Star State weather standards, it's way too warm.

It is also windy outside as strong generally southerly winds have been persistent through the day and some gusts are approaching the 45 to 50 MPH range. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory until 5:00 PM this afternoon.

Severe storms are certainly possible by the time many wake up tomorrow morning as temperatures will drop and winds will continue to play a role. Tornadoes cannot be ruled out in isolated spots across the region.

Temperatures will return closer to normal levels in the 50s by the time we get to the New Year's holiday.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas on December 26, 2008
A WIND ADVISORY is in effect until 5:00 PM Central Standard Time.

South winds will continue at 25 to 30 MPH with gusts in excess of 40 MPH through this afternoon. Winds should diminish somewhat and just before dark or 5:00 PM Central Standard Time.

A Wind Advisory means strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles traveling on east to west oriented roads and highways. Boaters should use extra caution when venturing onto area lakes. Residents should take action to secure trash cans, lawn furniture and other lightweight outdoor objects that may be blown around in the strong winds.

Strong winds, severe storms in forecast

It's never been warmer on December 26

Today marks the 13th day this year that the temperature as reached 100° or higher at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and it's likely not going to be the last. It is already above the century mark during the mid-afternoon hours.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas on July 12, 2009
A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until 7:00 PM Central Standard Time.

The Heat Advisory area covers that part of North Texas along and northeast of a Newcastle-Cleburne-Palestine line. Afternoon heat index values are expected to peak between 105° to 108° on Monday. Nighttime temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s will provide little relief for the heat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when the inside of vehicles can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes, despite cracking windows or previously having used air conditioning.

Persons involved in vigorous outdoor activities are urged to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Wear loose fitting and light colored clothing. Be sure to check on persons with health problems and the elderly as they are the most susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Today is (hopefully) the last day of the extreme heat here in Dallas. The triple digits will likely remain through Thursday, but then on Friday a slight cold front will come through and hopefully (though doubtfully) bring some beneficial rain to the metroplex. Here is today's forecast for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including the current conditions, local observations, the 36-Hour Local Forecast, and the 7-Day Outlook. All weather information is courtesy of the National Weather Service. Enjoy. :)

EDIT: Current Conditions have been updated as of 4:30 PM CDT.

Rain, rain, rain, and more rain continues to come down here in Dallas as an upper level low soaks not just Texas but most of the South. Rain is expected all throughout the weekend and on into the beginning of next week along with much, much cooler temperatures. Here are the Dallas graphics for today. :)

The Dallas "Deluge" has finally ended! :thrilled:
We've gotten over five inches of rain in the past 8 days, putting us way ahead in both the month-to-date and year-to-date totals. I've made some tables that show how much rain we've gotten in the past week and where we stand as of today in rainfall totals. Please note that all information is from the National Weather Service.

*Indicates that a record rainfall amount has been set.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM TO 4 PM CST
THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM
9 AM TO 4 PM CST THURSDAY.

A POWERFUL WINTER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTH TEXAS
DURING THE OVERNIGHT AND INTO THURSDAY MORNING. AREAS OF LIGHT TO
MODERATE SNOW ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THURSDAY MORNING ACROSS MUCH
OF NORTH TEXAS...ALTHOUGH NEAR SURFACE AND GROUND TEMPERATURES
WILL LIKELY REMAIN AT OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING. STRONG NORTHWEST
WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WILL CAUSE BLOWING SNOW WHICH WILL REDUCE
VISIBILITIES TO LESS THAN 1 MILE AT TIMES IN THE ADVISORY AREA.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF WINTER
PRECIPITATION MAY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS AND PLAN ON SOME TRAVEL DELAYS.

So we're going from 70 degrees to this. I'll believe it only when I see it.

So...this Winter Weather Advisory may be true after all. :o This is truly unbelievable. Luckily, however, the snow should stop before tonight so people can go to Christmas Eve services and Santa can safely land his sleigh. :)

EDIT: Blowing snow right now. (1:22 PM CST)...this is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
ANOTHER EDIT: More blowing snow since 4:00 PM CST!!!

Yesterday's High:
72°F

AND FOR TODAY...
