THE WEATHER OBSERVATIONS POSTED BELOW AREN'T CURRENT. THEY ARE FROM 2 HOURS AGO.

As anticipated for at least a few days now, showers and heavy thunderstorms have finally make their way into
the Dallas-Fort Worth area this morning as a strong storm system makes its way across the nation's heartland.
A deepening trough in the southwestern portion of the United States is slowly moving into the eastern half Texas
with Gulf of Mexico moisture pumping into the region from the south. This combination is leading to plenty of
thunderstorm activity in the western half of the Metroplex and is spreading east into Dallas at this hour.

Temperatures have already fallen since yesterday and will be a bit below normal by the evening rush hour.
Peak readings will be near normal tomorrow, but the threat of thunderstorms won't cease until tomorrow night.

A Flash Flood Watch has been re-issued through tomorrow morning while an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory
is in effect for Dallas and Fort Worth until 12:15 PM Central Daylight Time. See the National Weather Service

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas on March 18, 2008

AN URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect until 12:15 PM Central Daylight Time.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for
western Dallas County and southern Tarrant County in north central Texas until 12:15 PM Central Daylight Time.

At 9:10 AM Central Daylight Time, National Weather Service meteorologists detected very heavy across
southwestern Tarrant County and moving into western Dallas County. Other showers and thunderstorms will move
into the area from the south through noon. Expect 1 to 2 inches of rainfall which will result in the ponding of water
on roadways and low lying areas.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great
to allow your car to cross safely. Stay away from creeks and streams. Turn around, don't drown.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH remains in effect through Wednesday morning.

The Flash Flood Watch continues through Wednesday morning for the following counties in north central Texas...

A strong upper level low pressure system and a slow moving surface cold front will move across North Texas today
through Wednesday morning. Strong southerly winds ahead of the cold front will continue to bring abundant
moisture into the region. The combination of these ingredients will lead to a widespread heavy rainfall event.
Rainfall amounts will average between 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts in excess of 4 inches.

Flooding of low lying areas, creeks, ditches and even some roads is likely in the watch area.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding.
You should monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued for your area.

It is yet another unseasonably warm day in North Texas this early afternoon and temperatures are already
in the upper 70s to low 80s. While it is rain free right now, it is expected to change. The threat of thunderstorms
is high and it's very possible they could be severe. No severe weather watches or warnings have been issued
at this time, but besides thunderstorms, high winds and hail are possible later today and tonight for

Yesterday has been quite eventful. The National Weather Service has surveyed the damaged in Northern Johnson County and has determined that 2 tornadoes have in fact touched down in that said area. Both of them are EF-0s (thank goodness).

It is a fairly warm, but unseasonably humid day in North Texas at this hour and the conditions are ripe for
severe storms across the region. Temperatures are quite uniforms around the Metroplex as there are
just too many observation sites that are reporting 71°. Go figure.

There is an excellent chance of strong to severe thunderstorms later today as humidity levels are very high
at least 70% or higher. Winds are primarily coming up from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the low pressure system
that's moving across the southern Great Plains. Parts of Texas see extreme differences in humidity levels
and even a drastic difference in temperatures.

Don't be surprised to later see the same kind of weather in Dallas as Oklahoma City has been getting over
the last few hours or so. High temperatures today in Dallas will be in the 70s with mainly overcast skies and
storms coming through, but it is expected to warm up into the mid to upper 80s between tomorrow and
the weekend under fair conditions.

Likely to be the warmest day of the 2008 calendar year in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area today,
there is the threat for more severe weather as was the case back on Wednesday. The difference between now
and then was that it was nowhere near as warm as it is forecasted to be for this afternoon.

For the second time this week, a Tornado Watch has been issued.
It is in effect for North Texas until 9:00 PM Central Daylight Time tonight.

Following a brutal heat wave late last week and into the just completed weekend for those on the west coast
of California where they saw record breaking temperatures well into the 90s to around 100°, that hot air has
now made its way eastward into the desert southwest and southern Great Plains of the United States.

Dallas is known for its hot summer temperatures, but certainly not as hot as Phoenix. In the Arizona state capital,
it is expected to reach 110°. For Dallas, it will be in the upper 90s to near 100° this afternoon. Either way,
those two cities have one thing in common. It's still hot, unseasonably so even for their standards.

As was the case in Phoenix, a new record high temperature was set at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport
yesterday afternoon at 3:17 PM Central Daylight Time of 99°, eclipsing the old mark of 98° set only two years ago.

It is to be another unseasonably hot day in the Metroplex as peak readings are expected to be in
the low to mid 90s, slightly lower than yesterday. The normal high temperature in Dallas is 84°,
so while springtime warmth is common here, it isn’t supposed to be THIS hot.  The above normal temperatures
are forecasted to continue right through the upcoming Memorial Day weekend as highs will be no lower than 90°.

Since my last weather report for the Metroplex, unseasonably hot temperatures have dominated
the last two weeks and no serious relief is in sight. Yesterday saw very windy conditions across
much of the region and today will not be as gusty. There is a small chance of showers and thunderstorms
for Dallas and Fort Worth this afternoon and tonight, while winds won't diminish until Sunday at the earliest.

A WINDY THURSDAY ACROSS NORTH TEXAS...

A strong low pressure system across southern Nebraska and high pressure over the southeastern states
resulted in tight pressure gradient over much of the central and south central Plains today.

Winds just above the surface were in the 40 to 50 knot range and daytime mixing aided in these gusts

I will need to double check this, but this may very well be the first official day in which Dallas-Fort Worth
International Airport has recorded a temperature of 100° in 2008. If so, it would make this the hottest day
of the year so far. Much of the Lone Star State is experiencing yet more unseasonably hot conditions
for mid-June. Normally, the Metroplex would see peak readings at or just above 90°.

The weather is tranquil across the region, but obviously really hot.
It will once again be in the upper 90s tomorrow to possibly near 100°.

North Texas is heating up yet again as we’ve entered only the first full week of summer. Yes, Dallas has seen
the 90s routinely for the past several weeks, but the above normal high temperatures is getting out of hand.
It is expected to approach 100° this afternoon in the hottest spots, including Dallas and Fort Worth.

No sign of relief for at least the next 48 hours, but I’m sure Texans are used to this by now.

To add to what Andy mentioned in his report, the very strong dome of high pressure continues to bake
the southern Great Plains region today and as a result, North Texas is expected to continue to see its hottest
temperatures of the entire year so far. Readings have already topped 100° across the majority of the Metroplex
this afternoon and possibly again for at least the next few days.

set in 1944. Waco was 2° from tying its record high for July 27th of 105° which was set in 1960 and 1977.

The highest temperature reported today across North Texas was 106°. This occurred at 6 sites...

Just outside of North Texas... Shreveport, Louisiana tied their daily record high of 103° which was originally set

As I had discussed in the recent past, Dallas routinely sees temperatures in the 90s during the summer months.
The highest average daily high temperature usually peaks in the mid 90s during the hottest week of the season.
For Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, its normal high for this date is 96°.

For example, one difference between Dallas and New York City during heat waves is that New York deals with
significantly higher humidity levels. New York's 90°+ is very much equivalent to Dallas' 100° in regards to the heat
due to North Texas seeing lower humidity and dew point levels during the summer. Houston is much more
comparable to New York when it comes to hazy, hot and especially humid conditions during the season.

High temperatures between today and mid-week could threaten record high levels (today's is 105° at
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport set in 1995), but at this point, it is expected to be around 100° each day
through possibly as late as Friday in Dallas.  Here is the latest National Weather Service statement:

A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until 7:00 PM Central Daylight Time.

A heat advisory is in effect for parts of North Texas until 7:00 PM Central Daylight Time this evening.

Temperatures will range between 100° to 105° this afternoon and contribute to a dangerous heat situation.

Be sure to check on persons with health problems and the elderly as they are the most susceptible to
heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Persons involved in outdoor activities are urged to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water.
Wear loose fitting and light-colored clothing.

Never leave young children or pets in an enclosed vehicle even for a short time as temperatures can quickly rise

YET ANOTHER HOT DAY ACROSS NORTH TEXAS…

The summer heat wave continued today (Monday). Highs ranged from 99° at McKinney and Sulphur Springs to 110° at Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls broke their record high for July 28th of 108° set in 1964. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport which had a high temperature of 105° tied their record high for July 28th previously set in 1995. Waco was 2° away from their record of 106° set in 1969.
