:thrilled:  Look at this.  Apparently, it's called a "pneumonia front" and involves a RAPID and SHARP temperature drop.  Going from upper 70s ahead of it to the upper 40s behind it.

It's so extreme, I was sweating 45 minutes ago.  Now I feel a chill  :brr:

I got to hear Stephanie Abrams's explanation of that the other day. It was right up there with the "lettuce layer" description. :P

5 years ago on this exact day, there was a funnel cloud right over my area (first one in history, I think) and they are predicting severe weather today! Scary!

I can post the pics of the weird cloud, but im sure everyone has seen them...

Wow, today actually looks like a pretty significant severe weather event! And for once, it's aimed towards my area! We are under a tornado watch until 6 PM.

This storm is HUGE!!!

At 6:15 PM, a LARGE (one half-mile wide) TORNADO was reported 1 mile west of Monee, or right near I-57, moving northeast into Indiana!!!!

Dual-Feed has interrupted the entire Forecast Earth program.

At 7:45 PM, NWS Radar indicated STRONG ROTATION in a storm over Tower Lakes, moving NE at 34 MPH.

Tower Lakes is only about 10 miles north of me!

For once, Major action in my area! :thrilled: :twothumbs:

We could use a thunderstorm or two to cool us down somewhat. I can't take this heat anymore, and the heat wave is far from over. It's 10PM right now, and the temperature is still 89 degrees and a heat index of 98.

The Weather Channel showed several of the video clips this morning.

Here's the tornado as it was in the Monee area:

Other pics and info can be found at:

A Video interview of a woman from University Park when the tornado hit can be found here:

***Please note the incredible rarity of a tornado of this magnitude in the Metro area.***

I wish I would've been outside a few minutes ago, we just had an outflow boundary pass through.

This pisses me off:

Hour and a half ago, Severe Thunderstorm warning. Storm line predicted to go right through me, with Winds over 70MPH. Big cell goes RIGHT OVER ME, and winds are no more than 20 MPH.

Mother nature really likes to screw me over lately. Some geographical feature screws me out of getting Severe Weather.
