003171: 8-Location CC Problems

Okay, I've been seeing this for months now. On the eight-location/two-page CC's, several locations never are reporting properly. These locations are

• Fort Rucker, AL
• Marianna, FL
• Opp, AL

Often when these stations are out, it will either state that there is "No Report Available" or just be blank. I understand these are reporting station issues, but what is the point of having those stations on there if they never are reporting? This may seem like a request (and it isn't), but I think new reporting stations should be programmed in. Some locations, like Fort Rucker, have several reporting stations. Fort Rucker has KHEY (Hanchey AAF, down), KOZR (Ozark), and KLOR. I know Cairns AAF has a station, but I don't remember the ASOS for it.

Currently, it appears as though you are a victim of bad luck. KLOR (Fort Rucker) is a military base and it is difficult for getting any information out of them as to whether this is a short or long term issue. I called K79J (Southern Regional Airport) and spoke to the observer. They took a lightning strike last Tuesday and are out for maintenance. Finally, KMAI is out for maintenance too (do not know if this ob is out for the same reason).  Sounds like patience will be in order for you, but you should eventually be back to normal in time.
