If it's alright with Gary, can I be the tie breaker (since I'm the incumbent?)
Anyone know what happens if the vote is tied?
If it's alright with Gary, can I be the tie breaker (since I'm the incumbent?)Absolutley.

Ohh, I won?! Thanks everyone for voting.
So what all do I need to submit? A logo? Buttons?
Well don't shoot me to death, but I don't see Billy's design "fitting" for a TWC related banner. It just looks too technological and advanced to me, especially with the square blocks in the background. But, either way congrats to Billy for his design and hard work.those blocks won't be there, he just took a screenshot with the grid still on in the background just so that people won't steal it behind his back :P
Are you serious? :wall:it was a design contest, anyone could have taken that, made a "modification" and called it their own. Smart move imo
LOL no wonder it looks horrific. :sick:The one in his sig or the one in my sig? Both made by him but still...
The actual design (w/o the bars) looks very nice! But it resembles to the current satellite lf banner, and I (along with several others) didn't like that banner one bit. I preferred the older Satellite lf banner (Like the one billy put in his TWCC sig) better.
Ok, gang, here's a very beta version of the site, so let's DIVE right in! (http://billy.mozfaq.org/temp/Gary/new_site/index.htm)if only I still took Latin, I could translate that page. Awesome start! In my opinion, I don't like the color of the background and the width should be lengthened a bit more. Otherwise, :cool3:
Looks pretty good Billy. No complaints from me! I do however, want to say that I'd like the site to be compatible with as many different browsers and screen resolutions as possible. I want to be sure that as few people as possible experience problems.I've tested it in IE7 and Gecko 1.8.x and 1.9.x with no problems thus far. I've also increased the width of the table to 800 pixels wide so it will fill up more of the screen for those with high resolutions.

Awesome! :) I'm now 100% satisfied with the progress so far :cool2:Looks pretty good Billy. No complaints from me! Nice job Billy! :twothumbs:
BTW, I was woundering what the discription is. It appears to be in German (I think).

Trust me, they will be a tremendous help.
I hope I haven't come off sounding unappreciative. Nothing could be further from the truth. You guys have no idea just how much I appreciate all your help. B)
I would have to figure out how I'm going to do this whole nav thing for IE because the menu system doesn't work for it at all... The workarounds aren't working either, so I'm going to have to resort to PHPifying something to hide the menu system for IE browsers and showing it for other browsers. This would mean for IE users, I would have to make a list on the main page. I just don't know how I'm gonna fix this. This is the only thing stopping me.

Also, we still need to hold that contest for the new slogan for TWC Today, which hasn't been done yet.

To bring everyone up to date, it looks like I may have to wait for Jesse's documentation before the site goes up. The new site was done entirely in PHP, which is a language I'm not very familiar with. Its really not the language itself I'm not familiar with as much as how to implement it. Right now I'm looking at a file folder full of components wondering "Where the hell am I supposed to put all this!?". :DThe pages folder ;) I'll have the documentation by Sunday...

if you have pages/misc/blahbaybee.php, you can load it with /index.php?page=misc/blahbaybeeTo bring everyone up to date, it looks like I may have to wait for Jesse's documentation before the site goes up. Hmmm...well that sheds a little light on the situation. :D

Take a gander at the template file I have in there for help. That'a actually pretty much the documentation you need but I can try to whip something more up by Sunday.
How can you write a site entirely in PHP?
Jesse, I'm having a little difficulty with one thing. Maybe you can help. I'm trying to figure out how to integrate my current music clips page into your design. The clips page, if you didn't know, is a php file. I'm guessing there must be a command that tells the page to display in your design, but as I said before, my experience with PHP is quite limited.I would just copy the content of that page and throw it into the template. I'm not entirely sure as I don't have the original file in front of me to play around.
One other thing, Jesse. Is there a way to add links to the dropdown menus? I ask because I see none for the classic audio or video pages, so at some point I need to add them. :biggrin:to add things to the menus, just modify the nav-nonie.txt file. Follow that format and you should be good. However, if you add to the nav-nonie.txt, you'll have to edit the sitemap.php file too for the link list for non-ie users.
I tried learning it a year ago and it was simply impossible. :no:How can you write a site entirely in PHP?
I don't know, but he did! and I must say, i quite like it. Seems much simpler than HTML.
Ugghhh. I'm really close to the end of my rope. I can't get the page template to work right for some reason. Every time I create a page with it, all I get is a plain white page with plain black text. Where the hell are the graphics? :furious:remember what I said before... use this as an example.... if you put a page in pages/misc/baybee.php, you have to load it as twctodayforums.com/index.php?page=misc/baybee you can't load it as twctodayforums.com/pages/misc/baybee.php or you'll only get a plain white page with plain black text... the index.php file does a page include() php function that pulls the page into the design so that you don't have to edit every single page every time you want to edit the menu bar...

You can play around with the colors there.
We're working on things as fast as we can...
As for the links and everything, open v4.css and look for..Code: [Select]/* Links
You can play around with the colors there.

Gary... https://twctodayforums.com/nav-ie.txt (https://twctodayforums.com/nav-ie.txt) needs to be updated to include the link to the forums so that IE users can still get here, along with the sitemap... :pinch: I should have noticed that when I made it <_< The simple way to update the sitemap is to copy and paste what's in nav-nonie.txt into the sitemap file where appropriate every time you update the nav. We're working on things as fast as we can...

Thanks Jesse! B)
sdm, it makes no difference which version of IE you use. They all render graphics and such in the same fashion.
Like I said, Jesse's working on it, and I'll implement a fix just as soon as he can find one.
Ok, I'm still having difficulty with the classic and current clips pages. I'm posting my php files for both pages. Can anyone here look through them and see if there are any errors? I would really appreciate it!I don't see anything wrong imo, I would get other people's opinions also.

They look fine to me also, but something's evidently wrong. If you go to the site and navigate to either the classic or current clips page, you'll see a pageful of errors, referring to speciifc lines in the documents. Problem is, I look atthose lines and nothing seems wrong. :thinking:could you paste the specific errors here?

I'm still clueless about what's going on with the clip pages. If anyone has ANY ideas at all, please come forward.Worst case, you wind up making them separate from the design. I honestly have NO idea how to fix it :S
My dear God my head asploded when I started looking at that code. Now imagine having to look at that shit every day. :P :rofl2: :rofl2:
Just a quick thought...The new site design is nice but i really dont think you should exclude IE users. The site should preform the same for each browser. As of now over 71% of web users use IE. Granted people think FF might be better but thats no reason to make it difficult for the average web users to use the site. Just a thought atleast. :thinking:I'm not trying to exclude Internet Explorer. It wasn't my intention at all. It will be the same for all browsers once I figure out how the hell to fix the damn menu bar for it. Relax :P
