From every angle I am seeing, and with Martin and Matt's approvals and concerns taken care of, we are ON SCHEDULE to start the user merge on Sunday, April 4th. Here is a breakdown of what will happen, basically, from my end:
- There are 540-some users to merge in to the current SMF board.
- All users will have to be merged in one by one manually.
- All TWCC users that are merged in will have a "TWCC_" prefixed to their current username.
- The merge shouldn't take more than a day or two, but could take up to a full week.
- The forums will be LOCKED and inaccessible during this merge. They could be down for a few days, but could take up to a full week. I will not unlock the forums mid-merge. It causes too many problems and possible member number collisions.
As I have stated before, If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Yes, the "chat" that we all know and love (lol) will be alive during this merge. The link is accessible here (https://twctodayforums.com/index.php?page=stream), if you would like to add this URL to your bookmarks. I hope that everyone is ready, and I hope you all understand why the forums will be inaccessible for this merge.
Once again, if you all have any questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, insults, etc, feel free to post them here, or contact any member of Administration or myself personally.

I'll be sure to send Martin a final database dump on the 3rd, after I do a final "spring cleaning" of inactive members. That way new members since the last dump won't miss out.

I've thought about it and I will look to see how many members that effects.
When we complete the merge I will create a topic so TWCC_ accounts (if they already have a TWCT account) can inform me if the want to remove the accounts. I may be able to manually update their post count on an individual basis from the old TWCC forums. I want to also let everyone know I wont be around much that week as I will be in Europe. Some changes to the forum layout/design will be made both before and after the merge. This wont all be a one or two day process

They know about the merge, and everything is being worked out according to Tyler.

I'm not for deleting accounts here. They may make a comeback here, you never know. I'm sure we're fine with database space too anyway.

Example: You have a TWCC account with 500 posts and a TWCT account with 1600 posts. I will just add your posts counts up and you can pick the account you want. Then we will delete the duplicate. This will only take place upon user requests. Accounts from TWCC will likely not have post counts transferred so I will need to refer to the TWCC archived forum for verification.

Gotcha. :thumbsup: I would probably like to transfer all the TWCC stuff here and keep this account, but I'll wait until after the merge to request this since it obviously can't be done right now. Thanks. :)

Remember, posts themselves aren't being transferred over. Only the members and post counts are. The archive version of twcc will have all the posts for viewing purposes and reference.

I highly disagree with you on that one. In my honest opinion, I feel both places should be mentioned on the logo. Martin has expressed that he wishes both places be mentioned... I'm unsure what Matt wanted, as it wasn't relayed over to me. Just remember, the dashes are for the TWC show that is on, not a part of the logo itself technically. Never has been. This is just a mock up at the moment... Adjustments would be made if necessary, and is pending approval from both parties.

Please don't screw it up to the point where I can no longer do the show logos. Also, please post any fonts that you use if you use any that I don't have. Please post your "messing around" images ASAP, if you could please. Thank you.

Thanks for using my inspiration, Jesse! :biggrin: It looks like Tyler may be working on something, but if I may suggest, I think yours would look better with TWC Classics next to TWC Today rather than under it...just a suggestion. :)

I dont think the logo needs changes at all. I really like the design. it clearly shows both forums in one place. If altered, imo, could cause confusion.

I will say that I concur with you, Al. :yes: (And, to edit, this is not because I think my original logo was best.) But I don't want to demoralize Jesse anymore by complaining about what he has come up with, so I will rush away now. :run:

I am not ready to completely revamp the logo at this time. I am going to wait until Tyler shows his designs and present the ideas to Matt for him to voice his opinions once all of them are together. He seems to like the two lined logo and that is the one I am also leaning towards.

This forum is only for issues directly related to your STAR products, Local on the 8’s or Weatherscan. All other questions should be sent to weather.com or discussed in another TWC Classics forum.
When possible, make sure to include your local weather ID (in the ‘black bar’ on an IntelliStar, or usually displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen before the :58 after Local on the 8s on the other Stars).
Also, I want to discuss a couple things with you about this merger through PM :)

Err yes mistake on communications on by behalf. Its IDEAL for submissions to be in by Friday but not required

Those who are making logos...
I like how Mike's logo has "Message Board" at the bottom. :yes: For clarity, since it's just the FORUMS and not the SITES that are combining, I think it would be best to include the word "FORUMS" at the bottom of the logo. ;)
For example, "TWC Today & TWC Classics Forums" Just a thought. :)

Unfortunately the different color gradients are difficult if not impossible to implement with the forum software. However I wonder if we could use a separate TWCC logo in the area where the powered by simple machines thing was. Interesting idea

The only thing...it seems very "separated" from the TWCT logo...I don't know. Still like it. :)

Actually I just really quickly threw that up there. More of a proof of concept then actual example. I like the concept but I am not sure... For now its temporary to show our support with the Easter logo ;)

I really prefer to keep our logo one line. Still waiting to see what Tyler has. We are going to put something up after the merge and from there we will see how to tweak/update it

I'm actually really for the concept of the separate TWCC logo. :yes: It gives each logo its own "space" so that TWCT and TWCC aren't condensed into one logo. Glad you thought of that, Martin. :biggrin:

Alright. Before you all panic and go "he's planning a hostile takeover~!!!`1111oneoneoneeleventytwo," I only have Administrator privileges for the duration of the merge and the few changes that have to be made when the merge is done. Once everything is set to go and is golden, I will remove my Administration status. All is good and I'm not going to do any coup moves lol...

I LOOOOOOOVE it on the right. Both the "combined" logos are cramped or too big. IMO, this will be just right, if the TWCC logo was a bit bigger.

Agreed. I thought the ampersand and how close the two logos were looked weird. It didn't stand out to me at all.

I know I keep changing my mind on this...it's hard to say. :thinking: I think if "in partnership with" is added to the TWCC logo, everything would look great. :yes: But now that Jesse's an admin (:o :fire: :run: :P), he'll be making that decision. Maybe Tyler will just blow us all away with his logo. :)

Whoa. You're taking it the wrong way. I'm not an admin in terms of making decisions. It's only temporary for the merge ONLY and to change the membership icons. That's it. I'm demoting myself the moment that's done. As I've said before, I will not accept an adminship promotion.
