The Future Of TWC Today
« on: April 27, 2009, 01:02:01 PM »
You guys have probably noticed lately that my presence here has dwindled to a precious few minutes each day, and my posting activity here has dwindled to practically none. In a nutshell, this is because my life has changed in several ways.

I started this site back in August of 2007. At the time, I was bored, and had lots of free time on my hands. I very seldom went out anywhere, had no friends, and no girlfriends. Nor did I desire any. I didn't like where I lived, and didn't feel compelled to socialize and make friends. I started the site because I figured it would give me something to do, which it sure has (in proportions I never expected!). I also didn't have a problem with spending money on hosting and server services. I really didn't have anything else at the time to allocate the money to, so the ~$25 per month I spend for the site was no big deal.

Fast forward to today. I'm pretty sure I told you guys last August that I had moved back to my hometown, where I grew up and lived for 15 years. If I didn't say it here I know I mentioned it in my blog, so you may have read about it there. At any rate, I had hoped that coming back here would reignite the social fire that burnt out when I left, and it has, in bigger ways than I could have imagined. I've met friends, girls, and just generally have gotten back the social life I left behind when I left almost 6 years ago. I don't spend a whole lot of time in front of the computer anymore. On top of all this, I still have the Amazon/Ebay business that I've been running for almost 2 years now. I've also recently reinstated my car insurance policy, and have also recently purcahsed a cell phone and service.

Simply put, my interest in this site has waned dramatically, and I don't believe its temporary. I also don't think I want to continue funneling money into it that can be better spent elsewhere (my car insurance, for example  :P ). Current TWC has never been a big devotion of mine anyhow. My interest was and still is in classic TWC. Therefore, I've made the heart wrenching decision to cease operations of this site and forum. It was a very difficult decision, but one I think is right.

That said, there IS one thing that can save this site. If there is anyone here who is interested in taking over the site, then perhaps it can continue on. I can transfer everything over to you, and you can assume control of and payment for the site. If your interested, let me know. Barring that, the site will cease operations on or about May 13.

I've had a great time running this site, and meeting all the people that have joined this forum over the nearly two years its been up. We've certainly made alot of very big LF music discoveries here, and had lots of fun.

Awww Gary. I'm sorry about this news. I was shocked. Things like this happens all the time.  :cry3:

I really hope you have an awesome time, and I really hate to see the site go. I enjoy being on here. I even made so much friends here as well! You are a great administrator. I'm really sure someone on here would take over your place.  :noexpression:

Same. I'm sure someone would be willing to run the forums. This place has meant a lot for me for over 2 years. I've made many great friends and connections and was able to keep up with updates here.

I don't have the money to run a site, but I'll be more than happy to take over moderation duties for these these forums for you all. I've ran a few forums and they've been pretty successful for a time. Maybe Stephen can host the forum from his webserver like what he planned to do when this site was going to be taken down last year. I just hate to see this greatly successful forum go as there aren't any other active TWC forums out there. Losing this forum will greatly affect me because I've met just about everyone on the TWC Fan community here, and I'm sure lots of others feel the same way. Anyone up for this?

I'd be devastated if this site died. I have plenty of money and a good job so if nobody else can afford to keep the site afloat, I can. You just say the word and I'll take the responsibility.

I'm sorry to hear the news Gary, but it's understandable and I hope that someone will be willing to take over this site, it would be sad to see this great place shut down for good. :(

I have inquired about splitting the charges with Martin on monthly charges, since now I have a job, I can spare $10-$15 a month. Won't be able to until the 15th, when I get my first full paycheck, which is 2 days after he's ceasing operations... Hoping Martin and/or Gary can pull something in the meantime, maybe one final month. Hoping to hear back from Gary on this.

I've spoken with Martin, and he is now thinking things over. He's going to get back to me when he makes a decision. I will also be speaking to Tyler who has also expressed interest. Competitor or not, he's a damn good choice. It's definitely between him and Martin at this point. Jesse, should it not work out with either of them, I'll talk to you.

The one thing I ask, is that you don't let whoever is gonna run the site and forums, destroy and/or get rid of the design I spent 2 months working on ;) I'd be more than happy to teach whoever is going to run it the PHP and HTML necessary to make it work and create pages. This will remain in the air.

Well, I really don't have any control over that Jesse. That would be between you and the new owner. I suspect Martin would be jsutfine letting your design stay, though if Tyler takes the reigns I suspect he'd want to create designs of his own (after all, that IS what he does  :D ).  B)

I'm sorry to hear this Gary. :(

If you like, I can help out with the forum since I'm on most of the nights and pretty much all weekend. ;)
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

Rest assured, I'm going to do everything I can to see to it this site doesn't go away. I'm sure I'll work something out with someone. If not Martin, then most definitely Tyler.

I'll do it. My server rarely sees any downtime, and there's ample space available. All of the infrastructure is in place, all that would need to be done is to plop the files down and redirect the domain.

Financing is no concern.
