Slow and laggy
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:38:24 AM »
Is anyone else having any problems accessing the forum lately?  It's been rather slow and laggy for me today.

The problem seems to have improved for me.  Maybe it was a temporary thing.  I'll let you know if the problem reappears more seriously.

Eric, I didn't notice any problems here, so maybe our host server had a brief glitch.  I just ran an optimizer on our end to see if it speeds up the forum a little.

We use shared hosting which means that there are potentially hundreds of other sites on the same server as ours. It could be that one or more was using more resources than they should have been using at the time, causing issues for other hosted sites.

No problem. Its how hosting has become so cheap these days. Dedicated hosting ranges from $40 for a virtual server up to hundreds of dollars each month for a dedicated one. Its not cost effective for most people. If the problem continues we can ask our host to look into it

I have the same problem with my site. Especially when it comes to database timeouts. I'd love to upgrade to dedicated or virtual hosting, but it doesn't seem worth it since I don't make any money off the site.

I get the feeling that what we have is sufficient.  Technical problems always occur, but this site is accessible to me almost everyday.  Having your own dedicated server would cost so much that you would wonder if it would ever be worth it.

Yah, I almost never have any problems accessing this site. Then again, I'm generally only on it for a minute or two a few times a day.

I had horrible problems with typing lag when I was writing a message just earlier.  It got so bad to the point where words would appear on the screen, one by one, about five or more seconds after I typed them.  Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to tell if it's my computer or the forums, as my computer seems to be dealing with typing lag as well.  The problem seems to be fixed now.

Such a problem would seem to be with your computer, not with the forum.  I don't know how such a problem could be the forum's fault, and especially since it affected your computer outside of the forum, too.  Could have been a memory issue.

That is definitely a problem with your computer (and not the forum) if it's lagging at typing. If it ever happens again just open your task manager and see what's consuming your CPU
