The Thanksgiving logo Andy made in 2010 has been put up. If anyone would like to contribute possible entries for a holiday logo for the forums for 2012, let me know if you would like to contribute, I'll designate and create a thread for entries and put up a poll!

I was a bit concerned about guest posting back in the past. I always thought it wasn't too helpful, especially that it poses a open door to banned members. Good to see that it's been disabled.

Hey everyone!

As you may have seen in some of Patrick's discussion in The Front Porch, we are trying to raise interest here a little bit by bringing some of our discussion towards more general weather chat, including more detailed forecasting techniques such as analyzing weather models, and understanding the math and physics behind meteorology.  We may even have a forecasting challenge game so that some of you who like to forecast or have always wanted to forecast can give it a try!

Reflecting this change, you will see two new boards for "Forecasting" and "Hazardous Weather" under the "Weather Discussion" category.  Currently, the boards are empty, but in the coming days and weeks, we will start to add new topics and get everything organized.

We hope you like this new idea!

Thanks for getting all of those weather boards organized, Andy!  You did a great job.

I've begun to populate these boards with older topics so you can see a few of the ideas I was hoping to start in the Weather category of this forum.  Here's the plan I shared with Martin and Andy that we are implementing as of today:

• Your Local Weather - This board stays the same, and all your local weather data topics go here as usual.
• General Weather Chat - This board stays generally the same, but the focus here is on casual weather topics at a basic level of understanding.  Weather photos and general phenomena are perfect here.
• Forecasting - Here's a new board for more in-depth discussions of the models, forecasting, and complex topics that can involve Calculus and Physics.  Think of this board as the advanced college level of the General Weather Chat, and I can share with you all some of the real Meteorology in this topic, too.  I am thinking of creating a forecasting contest and an educational weather trivia game here as well.
• Hazardous Weather - Here's a new board to give everyone space to talk about upcoming or ongoing severe weather, winter weather, and tropical weather.  Three separate child boards are here to help separate the threats, and Hurricane Central has been moved here for the tropical weather side.  If your hazard doesn't fit within these categories like heat, cold, or anything else, simply post it elsewhere within this board.

I hope you like the new weather boards, and please feel free to ask any of us questions or provide more suggestions as it's an evolving part of the forum for all of you!
