This is what the WeatherStar XL LDL might look like if it were ever used on non-LF programming. I made it to basically match the old XL LDL before the March 2010 IS LDL updates, with a few modifications, of course. Enjoy!
-
Did anyone watch my vids of the narrationless Weatherscan tracks I did a while back? I finally made some CD artwork for a 2-disc set I burned with those tracks. Enjoy them
-
Here's an updated version of the programming LDL I made for the WeatherStar XL. This time I made it in a similar format to the LDL on the IntelliStar. Whaddya think?
-
Just in time for "Green is Universal" week, I colored the TWC logo green on the WeatherStar XL, which may never happen in real life. What do you think?
-
Here's what the IntelliSTAR might look like if the blue LDL were to be discontinued (the product shown on the first pic is the regional CC product, which is rarely shown on the IS nowadays.)
-
If Dish Network or DirecTV were to install satellite IntelliSTAR 2 units to their TWC HD feeds someday, this my concept of what it might look like. Basically you would have a SLF with a bug (generated by the IS2) on the upper right corner of the screen, much like what both satellite TV companies have on their SD TWC feeds.
I found a screenshot of an IS2 from an online source, took a screenshot of one of my HD TWC recordings, and used Adobe Photoshop to crop out the IS2 and left the Facebook/Twitter bug alone.
-
Here's an updated LDL-free IS pic I made in Photoshop, this time without the "weather.com" text :P
-
Here's an updated version of my 1/4-length XL LDL concept. I removed the "weather.com" text (to match the real IntelliSTAR LDLs) and added light drop shadows to all of the texts for better clarity.
The background image is from SiliconDust, which was taken from Bremerton, WA via Comcast (yes, Comcast in Bremerton still uses an XL according to the website )
-
Decided to do this for fun. Using Photoshop, I cropped out the IntelliSTAR's LDL from one of my tuner recordings and spliced it together with a letterboxed HD TWC feed (also taken from one of my tuner recordings.) Let's hope that this isn't happening with a real cable headend because displaying an IntelliSTAR over a letterboxed HD TWC feed is a big no-no :nono: :P
Hope you all enjoy the pic.
-
Here's part two of my HD TWC feed "error" :P This time, the IntelliSTAR-generated Facebook/Twitter bug (seen on the Dish Network SD TWC feed) cues over a letterboxed HD satellite local forecast. Like the first image, this one was also made in Photoshop.

This artwork took me two days to make. It's a fake Weatherscan for Astoria via Charter Communications. It was recreated based on a real Wxscan image I found on SiliconDust. The radar is from weather.com, and the image of the Astoria-Megler Bridge was taken by myself a few months ago. The graphics aren't as technically accurate as the real thing, but I tried my best to re-create them as best as I can. What do you guys think?

Are you serious? That's excellent work, pretty dead on if you ask me.

Thanks a bunch Tavores! I was attempting to re-create the shapes and graphics using the real Wxscan image as the guide layer in Photoshop, and I have to admit that I wasn't sure what other people would think, like did I do a great job, stuff like that. Thanks again for the kind words, much appreciated :)

Here is my rough draft of the now-discontinued TWC station ID segment. The background was taken by myself from atop the Astoria Column a few months ago. What do you guys think?

I decided to put my CD album artwork skills to the test, and made the following artwork for my own personal TWC music mix:
The background photograph for the front cover was taken next to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse in Washington state, while the photo for the disc tray back cover was taken at Blue Lake in north central Washington state about a year or so ago.
The songs I listed on the back cover are my favorite LOT8s songs. If you wish to make a copy of this mix, I suggest that you go find all of the songs listed on the back cover for yourselves anywhere you can find them, whether it's from a CD or from the internet legally. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy my artwork :)
EDIT: The artwork has been updated to include a 19th track I found recently, "Walk, Don't Run" by The Ventures.

Here is an updated version of my Weatherscan artwork, only this time it is in "Severe Weather Mode" for the strong storms that occurred outside the Little Rock, AR area about an hour ago. Cool, huh?
-
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/4000l-barconcept_zps82b33b70.jpg)
While this may never happen in a million years, here is my concept of what the squeezeback might look like for WeatherSTAR 4000 viewers, complete with the radar, current conditions, and a space for ad crawls, similar to the IntelliSTAR squeezeback. What do you guys think?
-
Awesome! :cool3: Unfortunately like you said, such a concept will never exist in a million years! I would imagine it would look just like that though. It would be neat to see in existence.
-
For the first time ever, my IntelliSTAR now uses ad crawls
Okay, I lied :P STAR #23550 doesn't really have ad crawls. I actually Photoshopped the ad crawl from a photo of another STAR that has them. Looks real though, doesn't it?
-
Very nice work :)
-
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/XLl-barconcept_zps419d81e9.jpg)
This is my concept of the L-bar for XL viewers, complete with the radar, CC, and a space for ad crawls, similar to the IS L-bar. TWC will probably never make this a reality, as they probably don't give a hoot about the cable headends that still use XLs, or the other legacy STAR units for that matter :P
-
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/stationid20130624_zps6ab1ed93.jpg)
Here is my TWC station ID screen concept with an updated background for the summer. Looks neat, doesn't it?

Here are updated versions of my CD artwork for the Weatherscan music rips I did a while back.

I like the concept (and the design of your signature btw) :)
-
I like the concept (and the design of your signature btw) :)
Thanks Tavores! That neon-sign design in my signature was made in Adobe Photoshop CS5, along with most of the artwork that I posted in this topic.
-
I got bored, so I decided to get a little creative and made still concepts of an imaginary Local on the 8s intro, using a couple of pictures that I took of the Pacific Ocean a few days ago.
For the LOT8s logo, I couldn't find a decent size of it anywhere on the web, so instead, I attempted to re-create the logo myself. The font I used was Interstate Regular, and by a lucky guess, it was the correct font used for the real logo! :thrilled:
There you have it.
-
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/twcjimweatherscanrebootscreenartwork_zpscbc03322.jpg)
My still concept of Astoria's Weatherscan unit during a rebooting process, re-created based on a snapshot of the real thing. All of the info seen here is totally fake, as the Charter headend in Astoria does not actually carry Weatherscan. :(
-
Here's something for Patrick, aka phw115wvwx:
It's just a fake Weatherscan for Blacksburg, VA via their local Comcast/Xfinity headend. The radar is from weather.com and the image of Blacksburg is from Wikipedia. Plus the Xfinity logo is white here versus the potentially-eye-hurting red logo on real Weatherscans. :P
Anyways, hope you enjoy the artwork, Patrick, and I hope others will, too.
-
Thanks, Jim! It looks nice. While I don't have a Weatherscan, I do have two local channels that compete to give me the same look 24/7: WeatherNation from the ABC affiliate in Lynchburg, VA and a supplemental weather channel that resembles the old NBC Weather Plus from the NBC affiliate in Roanoke, VA.
-
Thanks, Jim! What is WeatherNation like in your area? Does it feature any local content in addition to the network itself?
-
What is WeatherNation like in your area? Does it feature any local content in addition to the network itself?
Around every 10 minutes, a recorded local forecast segment is done with one of the TV meteorologists from my ABC station. Then, a short 45-second local forecast in Weatherscan style with music is shown. However, the maps are changing every five seconds during both segments, which make everything difficult to follow. The music doesn't have much variety either.
Overall, everything seems rushed and bland, including the national broadcast itself. TWC at least gave a detailed 36-hour forecast and a 7-day extended forecast during the good days of local forecasts, but all I see now on Weathernation is a brief glimpse of the 7-day extended forecast and nothing more than tomorrow's forecast in detail during my local segments. I want to know what's going on and why, so I'm not impressed.
-
Speaking of WeatherNation, apparently our so called "Acuuweather channel" morphed into a WeatherNation channel recently.  I noticed it this weekend.
-
My Weatherscan concept with the updated 2013 LOT8s fog icon:
IMO these new icons that TWC plans to use in next month's LOT8s graphical updates kinda look like they were drawn by little kids! :P
-
Hard to believe that it's been almost nine years since these babies were decommissioned:
Anyways, I attempted to re-create an image of the 3000's CC screen in Adobe Photoshop, using real weather info from weather.com. The text is the real 3000 text (downloaded from TWC Classics BTW) and I attempted to stretch out the text so it would look almost exactly like the real thing. For the guide layer, I used a still image of one of my old video recordings of a real 3000. Took me about 40-45 minutes to make this image.
So what do you guys think?
-
I just had to make this
The background image is from a traffic cam found on the Connecticut's DOT website. The image of Falco was photoshopped out of a biography book cover. The line "It's getting weird" references to a lyric from Falco's song "Männer des Westens - Any Kind of Land".
Even though I personally believe that The Weather Channel's idea of naming winter storms still sounds ridiculous, it sometimes has its funny moments. :P
-
Updated station ID pic for winter:
I updated the image to match the current TWC graphics shown during commercial breaks on live programming. Even though the Dish STAR never displayed the channel number, I did it anyway here to show how cable headends would display it if TWC would ever bring back the station ID segment (which they probably won't anyway :P).
The background image was taken by myself at Lake Coeur d'Alene (located about 30 miles to the east of Spokane) a few years ago.
-
I know it's a little early, but... happy 2014! :P
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/stationid2014_zps86939848.jpg)
The background image is that of the Spokane River, which was taken by me a couple of years ago.

All of the above info is fake.
I've been working on new graphics for my emulator. These graphics are almost identical to the 2010-2013 IntelliSTAR graphics. I hope to have my graphically-updated emulator finished real soon, but I still have a ways to go before I'm done.

Here's my TWC station ID concept with a new background for spring.
The picture in the background was taken at my grandmother's house late last summer.

Should TWC decide to bring the Local Weather ID number (which they should IMO) here is my concept of what that might look like with the current graphics.
Normal mode:

Storm Alert mode:

If the Dish and DirecTV STARs were to cue the satellite LDL during long-form programming the same way the cable STARs do for the local weather, this is my concept of what that might look like:
Using snapshots from the Dish Weather Channel feed, I basically just cropped out the satellite LDL during live programming and inserted into the blue-grey space that appears during long-form. Not bad, huh?
-
My concept of the local LDL for IntelliSTAR 2 Juniors:

My re-creation of the IntelliSTAR 2's Welcome screen graphics, featuring a question TWC would probably never ask regarding the random jokes. :P

If only Dish Network would carry Weatherscan up here in Washington, but I seriously doubt they ever would. :(

Made some new CD artwork for the Weatherscan music collection.

CD Disc Tray Back
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/WxscanMusic-CDDiscTrayBack2014_zps603bc4ad.jpg)
The background pics on the first two images were taken at Spring Canyon Campground in Washington state late last summer, while the background pic on the last image was taken from my back porch in Long Beach earlier this month.
Enjoy the new artwork!

A new version of my Local Weather ID concept, using the current TWC graphics:
UPDATES:
- The city name has been replaced with the text: The Weather Channel is brought to you by: [insert cable provider here]
- The local weather ID number is smaller.
-
I decided to redo my personal LOT8s music mix CD for fun. :)
Both of the background pictures are that of the Columbia River Gorge on the Washington/Oregon border near the Maryhill Stonehenge, taken in March 2014.
As for the songs, I removed 9 songs from the original mix (because I wanted to :P) and added a new song, "Jessica" by The Allman Brothers Band.
What do you guys think?
-
Fun fact...
Jessica was the music that played during my first, and only ever, local forecast in Tampa, FL. It also happens to be the theme tune to my favorite TV program.
Nice Artwork, Love the Question for the LOT8's, It's something that TWC should add to the greetings list...
-
This took me about 90 minutes to make:
It's basically a flat screen TV tuned to a channel, which, in this case, is The Weather Channel. Using Adobe Photoshop, I took a stock image from online and then cut out a square space on the TV to put images inside the hole. The images in the hole are 853px by 480px. Also, at the top-left corner of the TV screen is a re-creation of the channel info box seen on a real Samsung TV, which I happen to have at my house.
The image I used here as an example is a snapshot of the IntelliSTAR 2 Jr from Grand Coulee, WA, taken from a tuner video I recorded at my grandma's house nearly two weeks ago.
What do you guys think?
-
Recently, I did a new re-editing of all of the 33 Weatherscan music tracks. I still had all of the master audio recordings on my computer, which were recorded back in 2011 when I was living in Spokane and had Comcast and Weatherscan. I figured, what the hey, and decided to re-edit out the interrupting Vocal Local narrations.
To go along with the new re-edits, I also decided to make new CD artwork, yet again. This time, I made new artwork for the front and the back covers. Here they are:
Front Cover
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/Wxscan_Music_CD_Front_Nov_2014_zps2cbb2917.jpg)
Back Cover
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/Wxscan_Music_CD_DiscTray_Back_Nov_2014_zpsbd021cb7.jpg)
The artwork was designed using Adobe Photoshop CS5, as always. :P IMO, this is probably the best version of the Wxscan Music CD Artwork that I've ever made, compared to the previous versions.
-
My TWC advisory scroll concepts:
Orange:
Yellow:
Red:
IMO, TWC should have used these concepts instead of what they have now because the text is sometimes hard to read, and the news ticker that runs below the crawl creates a distraction whenever I'm trying to read the weather advisory.
-
Another concept of the TWC station ID segment with the current graphics, this time redone from scratch.
-
What if Gannett Company owned The Weather Channel? If Gannett did ever buy TWC, the graphics would probably be changed to match the graphics on the other Gannett-owned TV news stations. Here are my concepts of what that might look like.
Live Programming
Local
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/TWC_Gannett_Concept_Live_Local_zps1ntldkod.jpg)
Satellite
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/TWC_Gannett_Concept_Live_Satellite_zpss2mgrdd5.jpg)
Commercials & Long-Form
For these concepts, the TWC feed would be shrinked slightly to reveal another TWC logo as well as the 'Local On The 8s' logo (old one) on the sidebar.
Local
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/TWC_Gannett_Concept_Ad_Long-Form_Local_zpsybqgejtr.jpg)
Satellite
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/TWCJim/TWC_Gannett_Concept_Ad_Long-Form_Satellite_zpswjyv1mln.jpg)
All of these concept designs were created using Adobe Photoshop CS5. Everything was done from scratch, using a screenshot image of a real Gannett-owned TV news station as the guide layer. It took me pretty much all afternoon to make all of these images.
And there you have it. What do you guys think?
-
Looks very good.
-
Looks very nice! Hope you don't mind but I created an extension on what I would like to see based on Gannet. This is the satellite (national) feed.

I like it, looks great. Well done! :twothumbs:
-
I showed @daveclark on twitter the gannet graphic format and how they should use in the next graphic update and he said
we actually agree. Design updates are hard on TV, but they're coming!
Maybe there's a chance of similar graphics in the future?

A graphics overhaul of the DirecTV Local Forecast is waaayyy overdue. Here is a rough draft of my concept of what the CC product might look like with the 'Weather All The Time' LF graphics:

Wow, this isn't too bad! I actually like it.
