Hi, everyone... I was wondering if I can get some feedback on this.
I know, it's been quite some time since I posted anything in this thread, but I thought I'd ask for some feedback
on what I was most recently working on. I threw this together and it's very basic, but I think it works to this point.
Due to the heat wave that was finally broken today, I wanted to create some kind of high temperature
graphic page. It was inspired from the local newscasts that tell us viewers high temperatures for about
a handful of reporting sites. For example, Lonnie Quinn at WCBS-TV and Lee Goldberg at WABC-TV
each showed lists. So thought I'd try my own.
For the background, I went with a blazing hot theme. I'll have others on future ones that are appropriate
for the time of year.
Then I had to figure out what information is to go on this page and how to balance it out with the right amount.
Not too cluttered, but enough where you get everything you need (place name, temperature, record indicator
and record year). I wanted the main banner to stand out so we know what this information is based on,
yet the date is clear and visible to find. Then it was the placement of the legend key for the record indicators
(in red and orange).
Since not all the National Weather Service reporting sites have an almanac page, I decided to just show
any records that were tied instead of both tied and broken so it doesn't clutter the page.
Then it was a matter of spacing everything right. The place names are aligned equally spaced within
the inner-most box. The spacing between the edge of the inner box screen from where the place name begins
to the left margin and then the record year to the right margin. After that, it was a matter of centering
the record year between the record indicator and the right margin.
Oh, and I left the proper room for the black just in case I want to ever insert it in the
Local on the 8s scenario
for my reports. But, I may have to redo the placement of the place name on the black bar farther to the right
to line up with the inner box screen and the graphic page banner. All the inner boxes to my
Local on the 8sstyle graphics pages are closer to the two margins of the entire page than what I believe is on 4:3 screens
you see on TV. I figured at the time, this wouldn't be on TV, so I thought I'd create a "hair strand" more room.
Any feedback and suggestions is appreciated! The information shown is actually yesterday's high temperatures for those locations.
