Weather Channel HD: We Have a Cable Deal!
But the channel won't reveal with whom.
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (September 20, 2007) -- The Weather Channel says a major cable operator has agreed to carry its new high-def channel.
But it won't say which cable operator.
That's according to an article in Broadcasting and Cable magazine.
The publication reports that The Weather Channel HD signal is now being fed to DIRECTV's headquarters in California. DIRECTV plans to add the channel when it kicks off its high-def expansion this month.
But a Weather Channel spokeswoman says a major cable operator has agreed to offer the HD channel in October -- and two other TV providers will carry it as well.
“Our distribution partners are moving forward with satisfying their customers’ demand for more compelling HD programming, and they see The Weather Channel as assisting them in satisfying this demand,” Becky Powhatan, the channel's executive vice president for distribution and business affairs, said in a statement to the magazine.
Of course, it should be noted that The Weather Channel HD channel will not actually be in high-def for the first few months at least. The network has yet to complete the renovations on its new HDTV studio so its standard definition signals are being "upconverted" to near-HD quality. (Some documentaries, however, will be in high-def.)
Upconversion improves a standard-def picture, but it doesn't provide the clarity and color of a real HD image.
The Weather Channel's HD studio coverage is expected to go real HD sometime next year.

I bet its Comcast. I'd be surprised if it is anyone else.
-
Probably Comcast will be receiving it, IMO. They carry every useless channel out there.
-
Oo! That sounds promising! :)
-
One word, Comcast.
They are the cable company monopoly.
Not to be off topic, but my dad calls Comcast one gigantic scam.
-
Your Dad is right, IMO.
-
I'm guessing the other companies would be Time Warner and/or Cox?
-
They'd probably be the most likely if it isn't Comcast.
-
Comcast gets all the crap channels as soon as they come out, so i'd be willing to bet its Comcast.
-
I would definitely be surprised if it was any other company.
-
I wonder what channel it will be on here?
-
I dunno. All the HD channels are in the 200's here.
-
Same here. They are in the 280-300 range.
I wish they would group the TWC channels together. TWC -> Weather Scan -> TWC HD
-
I wish Comcast went bankrupt that way there are better cable companies to tend to. I'd rather wiat until 2008 for TWC HD to be fully functional, that way I can see the star, meteoroligists, etc.
-
That will never happen. They dominate the cable company biz, and their scam is too powerfull and successfull.
-
Never say never. Standard Oil was the same way in 1900 :)

The Big Ten Network.
I ought to show you all (who don't live in the Big Ten area) these promos Comcast is running about "standing up for their customers" by NOT carrying the network.
Morons.

LOL, who do they think they're kidding?

Thank you Comcast for saving the day!

I'd like to see it, if possible.
They pulled something like that here a few years ago. Imbeciles.
