Title: TWC Alarm on Star Jr.
Post by: Grgeiger on October 04, 2008, 02:02:10 AM
My cable company is using a Junior. The tone alert was never used in the past but it is now going off every 20 minutes with no text.. Just regular programming..  Nothing has been issued by the Weather Service.

Anyone know what's wrong so I can call the cable company to let the know?

If it's still going on once you wake up in the morning, try to get us a STAR ID (shown ~:57 of the hour right before the :58 LF) and/or the general area of where you are so we can get it reported to the STAR team.

That's very odd. Sounds like your Jr. is having some sort of malfunction.   :o

With that, I am wondering if it's the Jr. tone that I have never even heard.

I don't remember hearing a warning tone on the Jr either.

You never heard it before, and now they hook it up and it wont stop?

Simple reason for that... It's making up for lost time! :P

Could it be a signal the Star might be deactivated? I think the cable company might be putting this Junior in retirement in a few days as our system will be combining with another neighboring town..  I'll try to get a sample and post it on You tube when I get a chance. I have no way to edit it.. SO I'll have to guess when its coming up.

No, I wouldn't think it would be a sign of impending retirement.

Might just be a GPI / GPO mis-configuration...?

I know that Kevin on TWCC has a junior with an alert tone, and he's reported that his tone randomly goes off also.

Please see if you can capture the alert tone. As of now, there is no clip of the junior's tone anywhere on the internet.

The Jr always was a piece of crap.

If you want an alert tone, I can capture one in high quality.

Considering how old these units are its not surprising to see problems developing.

Well, I didn't say that. I meant Eventually, because it could cause TWC a lawsuit for not warning during emergencies.

I just heard YouTuber redoctober90 said that Penn State is dropping their Jr. in favor for DirecTV.

Audio alert generators for the Jr's go off at random times all the time. It's the Jr is triggering it. Sometimes the screw terminals on the Jr's contact closure outputs get corroded, or the Jr just starts to trigger the generator at random times. It's triggered by a contact closure. The contact closure circuitry in the Jr is solid state I believe.
