Time Warner is spinning off its cable TV business for $9 billion (according to http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/21/...in4114950.shtml (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/21/business/main4114950.shtml)), but Time Warner Cable may have about $23 billion in debt on its books making deals unlikely (according to http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArti...;issue=20080527 (http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArticles.asp?artsec=17&issue=20080527)). Because of that possible amount of debt, I'm not sure if that would cause some Time Warner Cable headends in smaller areas including mine to be sold off.

As if divesting its own Warner Music Group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Music_Group) (info on Wikipedia) in 2004 wasn't enough...

If TimeWarner were to sell off it's cable company, Comcast would probably serve almost the entire country now. A good portion of the US is served by TimeWarner.

Time Warner isn't selling off it's cable company, it's simply spinning it off of the main company into a new division, that way, if the cable co goes into serious debt, and has to be sold, etc, Time Warner Corp. itself will still be safe.
