Yes... and I LOVE it. We're saving upwards of $50/month over Comcast... the boxes run so much smoother, faster, and the DVR is MUCH quieter. Also, I really like the interactive guide. It, as well as the channel #s, will take getting used to, but overall, it was an excellent idea to switch.

The install took about 2.5 hours, not bad. We had 3 boxes installed, 1 of which is a DVR. With Comcast, we had 1 DVR and 1 normal STB.. however with FiOS, all TVs must have a box. But, we're saving a lot of money, so that really doesn't matter.

Any other FiOS customers here have good (or bad) stories to share?

Do you have any idea if FiOS cable is available in Hayward, CA?

He lives in Pennsylvania. How would he know what's available in California?

I am probably asking the wrong person. Sorry

To find out if you get FiOS go here... http://tinyurl.com/y7foej

I have two more questions about having FiOS:

1) Would I still be able to record with a VCR when I have a cable box connected to it and the TV? I ask since FiOS requires STB's for every TV, and I'm not sure if I would be able to view and record channels with the VCR if I had it connected to the cable box.

2) I have a VCR, a TV, and a tuner in the same room. Would the technician know how to set everything up in there correctly?

Yes, of course you can use your VCR with the STB... just like you can use it with all other STBs (including Comcast's).

As for the TV tuner, to get all channels above 49, it will need it's own box. Or, you can rewire it to use the STB on your TV only when you want to use it.

When I first moved to VT a few years back, DirecTV had Comcast SportsNet.  Originally, CSN was Fox Sports *insert region of the country here*.  Before that, I think it was the SportsChannel.  So a channel like CSN should be available everywhere.  Like with NECN in New England, its a "Comcast news network" but available on any cable system.  Too bad its moving to digital - thanks Comcast - one of 4 channels I watch daily.

Even if Verizon didn't bail out of us in Northern New England, FIOS wasn't available.  Fairpoint's got a package deal with internet/tv/phone using DirecTV.  If Comcast hits the delete button on standard cable one more time... I may be ditching them and getting a phone line for the first time in quite a while.

Does Verizon carry the Motorola DCT700, or any other small cable box that's the size of this model? I don't want to have a big bulky one in my already cluttered work space.

I really hate how FiOS requires a cable box in every TV, especially for my tuner, as well as its lack of headends. I hope they do something about this before we switch. I know these are dumb reasons, but it's just that I'd miss having a truly local Star/Weatherscan.

What's wrong with connecting your tuner to a STB? The quality will be better anyways

I'm not sure if Verizon does. Only Comcast does so far since everyone I know who has Comcast in my area has the Motorola DCT700 Cable box.

because I don't want to deal with all the wire clutter. I already have coaxial cables connecting to the TV, Tuner, VCR, and cable modem, all of which are in the same room.
