I have the Triple Freedom package: $99/mo forever for phone (including caller id, call waiting, and unlimited long distance, USA only); FiOS internet; and FiOS TV Premiere. Plus the $5/mo for the box rental (x2) and the DVR service ($9.99/mo), so the total bill comes up to about $140 (including local, state, and federal taxes) for all three services. FYI - my cable bill alone with Comcast, including ONE box and a DVR, and less channels than FiOS was $125/mo.

Why exactly does FiOS have a lot less headends than other cable companies?
The statements by some about FiOS being new and less spread-out isn't really why they have less headends (and less STARs). The real reason is FiOS is a new technology, so they can have one single headend cover a LARGE area, unlike previous cable technologies. For example, there is only one FiOS headend for the entire state of MA; also, there is only one for central NJ and northern NJ, and that is a large area. Word is there are complaints from TWC viewers from that headend daily because the forecast point is Somerville, and viewers extend as far south as just east of Trenton, and as far north as NYC. That's just how it works.

Yes... and I LOVE it. We're saving upwards of $50/month over Comcast... the boxes run so much smoother, faster, and the DVR is MUCH quieter. Also, I really like the interactive guide. It, as well as the channel #s, will take getting used to, but overall, it was an excellent idea to switch.

The install took about 2.5 hours, not bad. We had 3 boxes installed, 1 of which is a DVR. With Comcast, we had 1 DVR and 1 normal STB.. however with FiOS, all TVs must have a box. But, we're saving a lot of money, so that really doesn't matter.

Any other FiOS customers here have good (or bad) stories to share?

Do you have any idea if FiOS cable is available in Hayward, CA?

Can you have more than one DVR installed at your house and choose what packages (i.e. News, Family, etc) to have in each box? Also, does FiOS have a feature where you can purchase free movies/TV series (like Comcast's On Demand)?

He lives in Pennsylvania. How would he know what's available in California?

Yes, you can have more than one DVR... but the package is the same everywhere in your house (you must have a digital box), just as with Comcast. You can't pick and chose per TV/room.

And yes, OnDemand from Verizon has free stuff just like Comcast.

Does Verizon carry CN8 and Comcast SportsNet, or is they exclusive to Comcast? I watch these two channels occasionally since some of my school's sport events are seen there. I never see them on ESPN.

That's like asking if Fox airs NBC commercials. :P

I did hear rumors at another forum I go to that CN8 and CSN may come to FiOS, but I haven't heard a confirmation yet so that's why I asked here. I hope they make their way to FiOS before we switch to it (when it's available in my area).

The rumor is pure bunk. Whoever said it needs to get their head examined. Both CN8 and CSN are Comcast-produced networks. Comcast will not OK having their channels broadcast by another cable system.

I actually heard this rumor a while back... but, if you think about it, it's very possible. I mean, FiOS carries G4 and E!, both owned by Comcast. Plus, Comcast Sports Network and CN8 are carried on other cable providers in the NE, including Blue Ridge Communications in PA.
