They could try to launch a satellite for each city like what they did with the local brodcast stations.
Thats not how it works

Just imagine if that's how it actually was... satellites would be so crowded they'd be crashing into each other about every tenth of a second. :)

Honestly, weatherscan seems boring to me. I'm all for a separate channel for only weather, but having OCMs walk the viewer through along with local forecasts every few minutes is just fine.
TWC in...
Lansing: Comcast, Channel 36, STAR ID 22840
E. Lansing: Comcast, Channel 40, STAR ID 22842
Lansing Area: Broadstripe, Channel 40, STAR ID 25349
Current STAR count: 32. Be sure to see my channel for links to all the uploads!

Some might argue the latter is boring too. Well you can't always have your cake and eat it too. WeatherScan is the cheapest and easiest solution to everyones problems in this scenario

I don't know about you but I love weatherscan and so do a lot of other people i know. I can read the forecasts myself. :)

Why would you get cake if you can't eat it? I never understood where that joke came from...

They are going to use spot beaming for WeatherScan units to different areas I imagine

Haha true. Its already crowded up there

When was it... just last year?... when an American and a Russian satellite actually did collide?  And we keep adding even more space junk up there!

Perhaps this is the legacy of shortsightedness.  Way, way, way back in the day, no one imagined that satellite overcrowding could be possible, so no means whatsoever was designed to do something about expired satellites other than to just keep them orbiting until they either fell back to Earth in an uncontrolled reentry or (if they were positioned properly) moved out of Earth's orbit altogether (a rare event).

Sputnik fell back to Earth, but one of America's earliest artificial satellites is still circling the Earth after 40-some years, taking up valuable real estate.

In my opinion, it is downright irresponsible for satellites to be launched these days without a means of propulsion to send them farther away from Earth or send them in a controlled burn into the atmosphere when their missions are over.  To just let them keep orbiting and orbiting ad nauseum as lifeless metal hunks is just going to be an invitation to disaster, especially since we keep launching more and more, not to mention the collision danger they pose to manned spacecraft.

I was wondering that too.  It'll probably pop back on when TWC and Dish get their program up and running.  Hopefully before Heavy Hurricane season I can just see an cat 5 hitting the coast this summer and nobody can see it because of flick and a forecast.  Meteorologists getting blown down the street by a huge wind gust live is far more entertaining than a 10 year old movie.

TWC would surely cover large weather events over other programming
