Dish Network to drop TWC from 214, carragie dispute

if you have Dish Network like me, you may lose the Weather Channel soon as Dish Network is the first cable/Satellite provider to have a dispute with The Weather Channel.

this is really looking bad for Dish Network customer who are fans of the Weather Channel, but at least Dish is launching an new weather network to replace it, which might be better then long form programs and movies. but it's still not the Weather Channel, you need to contact both The Weather Channel and Dish Network if you want to keep The Weather Channel on Dish Network,

if not, make the switch to DirecTV or Cable.

let's hope NBC Universal cracks and and makes sure The Weather Channel stays on Dish.

i rather have both The Weather Channel and The Weather Cast then to lose one of them.

That sucks, but I hate DIsh Network with a passion so this is just another reason for me to avoid them.


EDIT: Change of thought, I have to concur with some of the reasons that Dish is doing to drop TWC. TWC shows little and little weather coverage by the months so seeing WeatherCast replacing TWC is viable since they're gonna offer 24/7 weather coverage. I hope it's localized and they play smooth jazz

I hope this teaches TWC a lesson that what they are doing is wrong. Apparently there are tons of viewers besides us who hate the "weathertainment" as he's calling it.

Well, they also say that their contract was coming up and there were rate increases at stake:

"Our contract with The Weather Channel is expiring and they are demanding unreasonable contract terms that would impact customer pricing."

Most people who play Charlie Ergen curveball lose the game and get back on Dish.

I couldn't agree with Dish more, That's TWC's fault for putting on movies and long form programming on a channel that's supposed to be dedicated to Weather Coverage not entertainment

This is shocking news. :O My parents are considering switching to Dish later on this summer but now, I might change my mind.

Looks like it's already in effect (or will be) since the signal will be gone today (May 20th).

Something tells me DirecTV could follow down this same path because the channel isn't doing what it's made for. But after all, viewers' LF wishes came true back on September 25, 2008.

As a DISH customer myself, I really don't care. I agree with DISH's reasons for doing this, and I don't think that TWC is worth that extra penny per month...if that's what it is. I'll have a real rant on my blog. Here's your disclaimer: there'll be a LOT of <censored>s.

It'll be funny if DirecTV were to do the samething. 

I found another article on this on the Wall Street Journal's website on this. This quote makes TWC sound very desperate. If DISH viewers told DISH to drop your network why would they ask DISH to keep your network?

"We are disappointed with their decision and hopeful that we can still reach an agreement with DISH Network and bring this highly valued network back to its customers," said The Weather Channel's Powell. "In the meantime, we are urging our viewers to contact Direct TV or their local cable or telco provider to receive The Weather Channel."

But with DirecTV, you actually have a local weather app that cues as the LOT8s so you DO get a forecast.

Yea, I would have to agree with Evan. At least DirecTV is trying to squeeze the best out of satellite by making the DirecTV LF App.

I doubt it will happen with DirecTV. TWC and DirecTV wouldn't have spent a ton of time and money developing the DirecTV LF app for it to all go down the drain two years later.
