If not get on the online chat or use a Twitter hashtag of #Comcast and be very polite and ask why you've lost a bunch of HD channels.  Key word is VERY VERY POLITE.

Comcast said that lightning struck one of their boxes...but I was up for most of the night, and I saw no lightning/heard no thunder. Most of the channels are back except for the locals....I am not near Comcast right now, so I can't check if TWC/TWC HD is back.

Well, I found out that it wasn't just TWC HD.

Multiple other HD channels were showing a black screen. Such as NICK HD, DISNEY HD, USA HD, etc.

Maybe it is just Comcast.

Because Comcasst had told us once before that some channels were being removed. Now, we have no TV at all because of a little rain shower that "ruined the Cisco box"  ..it is supposed to be back in 2 hours. Maybe TWC HD and all of the other channels will return then.

Well I wouldn't have posted they removed TWC just because you had a black screen.  Its not common for a cable company to ever remove major channels

We are thinking about switching to Dish Network or to  a local cable company that is being used to a town next to us.

Try switching to the local cable company, you may be getting a legacy STAR.

Monroe Cable System was bought out by Comcast around 2000 in my area. (Monroe, MI).

I wounder if they are dropping all of their analog cable channels? Our Comcast did the same thing two years ago in my area. They still have TWC at least, but no WxScan or TWC HD.
 
The thing is, I think most cable companys are reqiured to transfer their analog cable channels to digital begining in 2012 (kind of like what happen with the digital TV transition for broadcast stations).

They arent required yet but its a choice so subscribers can be satisfied to more HD channels and faster internet speeds

We used to have like 60ish channels. Now we only have 15, 4 of them which are spanish.

They got rid off all my favorite channels like TLC, Food Network, TWC, MSNBC, Discovery, ESPN, Altitude and tons more.

So yea, we are definately switching.

As for the digital thing, just get a DTA from Comcast. They shouldnt be expensive and then your channels should be back

The DTAs are indeed free. I got two of them for free. It allows you to view the lower frequencies that are digital (100 and lower, or what the headend tells them to decode...) They are NOT TiVo friendly, but they do the job.

The DTAs are NOT free. They may be for a certain amount of time, but I think they add $5/month to your bill or something like that.

You get 1 box plus 2 DTA's free with digital services here (I'd assume it's the same around the country or we'd hear about it).  Additional DTA's are $1.99/mo without additional outlet fees, I believe.

I don't understand what the problem is.  So long as people are prepared, then there's no problem at all.

In my family, most of the TVs already had digital cable boxes.  Those that didn't were equipped with the free digital converter boxes from Comcast before the cut-off date, so our house never lost service on any of its TVs.
