Comcast and TWC HD
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:41:00 AM »
Seriously, where is it? I thought they had a contract since last September, and they were going to be one of the first.

Typical Comcast BS.

Are they doing it by market size? That would make the most sense. Chicago is number 3.

No. Comcast does nothing by market size. That would make too much sense.

Verizon isn't much better. Tyler posted an official list awhile back and there are no plans in adding TWC HD to Philadelphia (DMA #4) anytime within the next few months.

It's coming by years end. Philly's problem is it wasn't launched as a digital market, as the others. Most of the other markets, North Texas, the Tampa area, Northern Jersey, and Pittsburgh, were all launched as half-digital, making the upgrade much easier. Philly must make the switchover to all digital before they add the new channels.

This is Comcast's big problem. Most of their systems are severely outdated, and are non-digital, or only partially digital. They need all-digital systems to add all the HD channels.

Not nessisarly, they can have an analog / digital dual band system, and still have HD channels.

I can tell you from experience that 75% (if not more) of Comcast's techs, current and past, are about as smart as a tree. IOW, a little caution is to be recommended when it comes to what they say.  :D

Well, I work in the cable headend / MDS here in Ottawa. We have a digital / analog system and we have 4 hubs that carry almost 80 HD channels, including onDemand content.

Classic Comcast Tech Install :P :

Thats why you always DYI when it comes to that kind of stuff. It's pretty easy, and saves money (and in this case, damage).

Yeah, but I know this Ex-Comcast personally, and hes a good guy, and knows his stuff. Hence why he left Comcast, for several reasons. One of which is my personal favorite: the 6 minute rule, where techs are supposed to keep all calls under 6 minutes, no matter the situation.

Now that's what I call superb customer service! Not. :club:

My cable person had to do that "classic install" when they installed our cable in our new house in 2005 since we don't have a basement. We do have an attic, but he didn't have a ladder to get up there (the easily accessible door doesn't have a ladder attached to it). Why wouldn't a cable person have a ladder with him?!
