Title: Charter or Comcast?
Post by: wxntrafficfan on September 22, 2008, 11:22:36 AM
Most of us on here have Comcast, but I know there are people here who have charter.
Which would you rather have?

Personally, I like this video from Charter:

Better than this one from Comcast:

What do you think?

I'd say Charter. Anything is better than Comcast.

I've heard a lot of negative things about Charter, but I'm sure it's still better than Comcast. When I went to the Outer Banks in 2003, they had Charter.

I would love Charter to take over the Comcast in my area even though Westport,MA has Charter and i'll look at what STAR they have (i hope not the IntelliSTAR)

They'd probably keep the old star even if they take over.

It all depends on maintenance and operation costs... If it cost sufficient in their budgets to go the router of an IntelliStar, then they will do that. That's what happened when Adelphia was bought out iirc.

It's also very dependant on the size of the area being acquired. If its only a small area, than the STAR already in place would likely be kept.

Charter operates ~25% of the XLs in existence and a few 4000s.

Yes, I'm also interested in knowing where those stats were found.

Charter is good but cheap. My god the OBX situation is horrible. Most of the cable lines are buried in the sand and are corroding because Charter was too cheap to use proper cable and equipment. Outages are nearly every other day (long ones as well) Considering the situation though they have to deal with a lot of things there so ill give them some credit.

On the XL issue I will say that Charter is more probable to have an XL then other providers. However the only reason I have seen that Charter has not upgraded those XLs to an IS is due to the fact that its not worth it. The XL that I am familiar with in the Outer Banks serves about a 6- 12 mile area. Not worth upgrading to an IS for the area but its not worth loosing that XL because its on the edge of the "coverage area" of the nearest IS.

Funny though how they skimp on the necessities but are bankrupt

I kinda like the fact Charter only gives IntelliStars to certain cities and the XL to a couple of them like in Big Bear Lake and Marchfield, CA that I saw Dec. 2008, but I didn't record it because: A. my camera wasn't working b.I don't have a tuner (WILL be getting one next month) c. Even IF my camera was still working, I would have 3 annoying cousins crying about the fact its not on cartoons (Oh give me a  :censored: break!) but at least I have seen what an XL v.3 looks like on tv... Thank you Charter!

Nobody has mentioned that.

Charter as of now is just restructuring itself. I have not heard of any plans to sell it or get rid of it.
