PM Notifier

I wanted to address a concern I've had about our current PM notifier:  Is that little number next to "My Messages" at the top such a small detail for some of you that you find yourself missing it completely and not realizing that you have new messages until days or even weeks later?  I've had problems where I sent PMs to some members in the past and would never get a response until some finally discovered that number a long time later.

Obviously, everyone is very busy with their own lives, which naturally explains a lot.  However, I can see where members may miss seeing that number multiple times while browsing the forum as it doesn't really stand out much.  There's a pop-up notifier mod already in place here, which I'm trying out now and could enable for anyone who wants something better to alert for new messages.  I just want ideas on whether any changes should be made here or if our current system is still okay with everyone.  Thanks!

Don't you also get a pop-up when you visit and an email? I do.

The pop up message is really the only way I know I'm getting a PM, I never pay the number any attention until I get that pop up message so I find it useful.

You have to turn those features on yourself in your profile settings, because they're turned off by default.  I was just wondering if those default settings should be changed to on so that members don't miss messages because they overlook that little number.  Every member should still be able to turn off the pop-up and email options if they're too annoying as Victor indicated above.  Personally, I wish something flashed or glowed along with that number.

I always get an e-mail when I receive new PMs.  I didn't realize that was a feature you could turn on/off, nor was the pop-up.  I do not receive the pop-up notification when I receive a new PM, though I used to.

Honestly, with these two notifications already in place, I see no reason to implement another option.  If people really cared about their PMs, they would have one, or both, of these features enabled.

When we upgraded the forum to SMF 2.0, that mod became incompatible.  I think the PM pop-up mod is the only choice for us unless someone else wants to search around.

I get email notifications, aaaand I get that pop-up to confirm that I have a message. I wasn't aware that it was disabled O_o

I probably didn't notice may have a PM unread, but I don't...so *phew*

It usually did for me as well, but I was more wondering if other members felt that wasn't sufficient.  It sounds like we can't do anything more on this issue I had raised.
