Hey, I was wondering, would it be possible for this website to have a little Firefox icon for the bookmarks, similar to Taiganet and TWCClassics (and other sites)?
-
Yep it can be done if someone here knows how to do it. I don't though.
-
I'm sure we can, but since we don't have one made someone's going to have to make one if we were to have one.
BTW, it's technically not called a "Firefox icon". It's called a Favicon, and appears in your URL bar and next to the website in your Favorites list or favorites toolbar. They appear in any browser (including Firefox). ;)
-
Just take the TWC gif logo, convert it to a ICO, then name it favicon, then go the favicon site and it will give you steps on how to place the logo in the url.
-
Just the TWC logo? Isn't there anything a little more...original?
-
Yeah, I want this site to have its own identity. You don't think Matt would settle for using the TWC logo as his site's favicon, do you? And it may be illegal to boot. TWC uses its logo as its favicon, so it may be illegal for another site to do the same.

How's this:

It is pretty basic; I created it in MS Paint. :p
-
Good enough. :D
If anyone has anything better, let me know.
-
I edited Billy's, by changing the blue background to a darker blue. Does this look better?
-
That looks good.
But being the rookie that i am, I have no idea what to do now. What exactly DO I do with the .ico file?
-
It looks ummmm....great.
I can sure tell it was made from paint
-

I'll take care of it. ;)

Thanks!
Wow, always something to complain about.

Here's one that I created based on the look of the 4000:

I like it! 8)

Gary, what I need you to do (since I can't edit the board templates for some reason), is upload this file in the main directory, and then upload it again to the /forums directory, and that should work.
-
Much better icon!
Is that the right opinion I'm having? I have to make sure I'm conforming with everyone else
-
We've discussed this opinion thing Dan. Don't start. >:(
Also, there is such a thing as courtesy and respect. He worked hard on that icon, and a little appreciation would be nice I'm sure.
Stephen, I've done what you asked.
-
Stephen, I've done what you asked.
Hmm, it's not showing up. Weird. I always thought if you had a favicon.ico file in a directory that all files in that directory when pulled up in a browser, would show that icon. I guess not.
-
no, theres a code for it. you have to put the code in all of the pages.
-
Well, you know I have no clue. :D
-

There is? I could've sworn I heard somewhere that all you need to do is put the favicon.ico file in the directory and then it'll show up on the webpage.

No. I remember reading several years ago about it.
-
Wrong Gil. I read about the code, and you only need it if you don't have the ability to FTP it to the site.
-
oh. hmm..

No. I remember reading several years ago about it.
Hmm. I'm about 80% sure that what I said is all you need to do.

I knew I wasn't crazy. ;)
-
Yeah I'm pretty sure you were right.
But I know nothing more. Your going to have to figure out what to do next if we're to get this to work. :D

Try renaming both of the files to favico.ico. I don't really remember if you're supposed to name it favicon.ico or favico.ico.
-
Okay, tried it that way. Any luck this time?

Yeah. I don't know what else to try. :-\
-
I think you have to actually convert it to .ICO, not just change the extention.
I looked it up, and everyplace i read said you had to put a coode on
-
Why don't you just ask Matt? He got his to work.
Also, how would that work if yours and Matt's websites are on the same server (because he has his own icon)?
-

I saved it as a .ICO.

No, the one that Matt has is the default one for IPB. And, it doesn't matter if it's on the same server.
-
It's working for me on all the pages.

Strange. Are you using SeaMonkey? Because I am and I'm not seeing it.
-
I don't see it at all in Firefox.

Alot of favicons don't work for me in SeaMonkey, but in Firefox, it's working fine.
-

It works because, while we are indeed on the same server, we have two different domains.
Gil, it is in .ICO format.
Wow Billy, what browser are you using?
-
Wow Billy, what browser are you using?
Like I said, it works for every page on the site in Firefox, but none in SeaMonkey.
-
I can confirm it's working in Firefox. But, it's not working in SeaMonkey for some reason.
-
You MUST clear your cache in whatever browser your using. Then it will work.

I did, and it's still not working in SeaMonkey.
-
Wait, weren't you giong to use the second icon Billy made? The 4000 based-one?

He made a second one?

I don't recall saying that.

Yes (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/index.php/topic,131.msg6220.html#msg6220).
D'oh! Don't know how I missed that.
I personally think the one we have now is fine.

For those having SeaMonkey troubles, try this:

Thanks Gary. That worked.

Your very welcome. 8)

I used that about:config tweak Gary linked to, and I still don't see the favicon in SeaMonkey.

That's weird. Try clearing your cache, and if that doesn't work, restart SeaMonkey (although you shouldn't have to - all I needed to do is after I did the tweak, reload the page).

I've done both (cleared cache and Ctrl+F5) and restarting SeaMonkey and neither worked.

That's odd. What version are you using?

1.1.2, but it was a nightly build from right before 1.1.3 was released, so it should be pretty up-to-date.

I'm using 1.1.3, though I don't see why it wouldn't work in 1.1.2. Could you try it in another OS?

Guys, can anyone remake the Favicon? I just noticed that it too was a casualty.

Thanks Billy! :sunglasses:
-
The Faviocon should be viewable again. BUT remember that you might have to clear your cache first.
-
I can't speak for everyone else, but I never had a problem w/the icon while the site was being restored. It always showed up (using cache, I'm sure).
-
I can't imagine how that's possible. The icon was no longer on the server.

He said it was likely pulling it out of his cache (which is on his local hard disk). That didn't occur for me, however.

Guess I missed that part.
-
Is it just me or has the favicon disappeared again?
-
I still see it, so try clearing your cache. ;)

I still see it, so try clearing your cache. ;)
Yeah, that fixed it. Don't know why I didn't try that before I asked, that's what usually works. Guess I'm just slow tonight.

Yeah, I'm with ya there. :P

Does the favicon only appear on firefox broswers? Because I'm seeing it right now with IE.
-
Does the favicon only appear on firefox broswers? Because I'm seeing it right now with IE.
I think the version 7 of IE shows it. I don't think it appears on version 6 or earlier, but I could be wrong.
-

No, it should appear with any browser that supports favicons.
-
I'm seeing the favicon daily with IE7
-
That's perfectly normal. Favicons aren't exclusive to Firefox.
