I'm trying to upload a couple of new contributions to my contributions thread, however, when I try to upload them I get this error:
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
Looks like the permissions for the upload directory need to get changed.
-
Huh? you just uploaded stuff a few moments ago. I didn't change anything since then.

I did, but I need to upload a few more clips, however, I can't because I get that error when trying to upload them.
-
Let me try to upload something. I don't know why your getting the error. I haven't changed the permissions.
-
Well thats not gonna work. Uploading doesn't work for me for some reason. Anytime I try to upload a file to the forum its as if my connection times out. I don't know what to say Stephen.I clearly did not change the permissions, so it can't be the problem.

Try going to your FTP, and CHMOD the upload directory to 777. If you do that, it should work.

I'm having the same problem....look at my post on the Front Porch

Uhhh.....have you forgotten that I'm a rookie at this? Your going to have totell me how to do this.

Oh yeah, sorry. In your FTP client, right-click the upload directory (which is called attachments) and then look for an option called "CHMOD" or "Permissions" or something similar depending on your FTP client. Once you get there, post a screenshot, and I'll tell you what to do next.
-
Ok, when I right click it I see no such command. Here is a screenshot that show all the possible options I have. In the commands menu I have no idea what command is, so its very possible that one of those could be what I'm looking for. Scroll right to see everything.

OK, click the Properties menu (on the first menu that pops up when you right-click), and then post a screenshot of what you see. :)

Ok, here you go:

OK, under Group, check the "Write" box, and under World, check the "Write" box under there, as well. That should work. :)
-
Alright, I hope that fixes the problem. Don't know how it got that way to start with, as obviously I didn't know enough to change the permissions without your help.
-
Alright, I hope that fixes the problem.
Yep, that fixed it. :)

Good> I hope that will be the last problem we have with that. 8)

Hmm, it seems the attachment issue is back again, except I get this error:
The upload folder is full. Please try a smaller file and/or contact an administrator.
:-\
EDIT: Fixed it. Had to raise the maximum attachment folder space in the Admin CP. :)

Gary, you're going to need to do this to the forums/Smileys directory, so I can re-add the emoticons.
EDIT: You're also going to need to do this to the Avatars directory, as well as (possibly) the Attachments directory, so we can upload avatars and attachments on the board.
-
Ok, you should be good to go now.
-
Stephen, is everything good now?
-
Alright, it looks like all the smilies are up and working fine. I even took the liberty of adding some new ones that we didn't have before! Enjoy!
-
Stephen, I can't seem to locate the smilies that shake their head yes and no. do you have those? Perhaps you can grab 'em from TWCC?
-
I was going to add the emoticons myself today, but thanks anyway. ;) Yeah, I'll get those added.
Stephen, is everything good now?
I was sleeping at that time. ;)
EDIT: BTW, you didn't CHMOD the Attachments directory, because I still can't upload my avatar:
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

I CHMOD'ed the main directory and told it to apply the setting to all subdirectories. It should've taken effect. I'll get it straightened out now.
-
Everything is as it should be Stephen. Don't know why you can't upload your avatar. :dunno:
-
Ok, I've found and fixed the problem. The Attachment and Avatar directories were pointing to the old server still. Simply changing that so that they both point to the new server has resolved the issue. I've even put up some avatars that we didn't have before, so I encourage everyone to take a look through the avatar list, by going into your profile and clicking on the Profile settings tab on the left.
Stephen, I noticed that when I go to post, all the smiley's are visible now, whereas they used to be in a dropdown. Is it possible to get it that way again? Or do you think they'r better left as they are?

That's exactly what I was planning to fix.

Excellent! While your at it, do you think you might be able to snag the dancing emoticon for me? Perhaps from TWCC? Thanks! :shades:

Wow, I didn't even realize that one was missing.
-
OK, both emoticons have now been added. :)
-
Thanks for your help! :sunglasses:
-
Eek, I would CHMOD the whole thing, that can lead to some pretty dangerious things.. Just do the avatar / upload directory?
-

Why does the smiling emoticon look different here than it did before?

Don't know about you guys, but they look different to me.
-
Yeah, it's slightly different. But I don't think it matters.
-
Mike, you had to have been looking at it through an magnifying glass. The difference are EXTREMELY minute.
