Actually, you can, and they seem to be doing just that today as Bill Keneely and Samantha Mohr host the show on their own today, but what's different this time is that no mention of Dao Vu's name has been made at all, and as far as I know, Julie Martin should be available to host if need be. Have they decided to take Weekend View in a new direction - one without a host who serves no real purpose? I guess time will tell.
-
Apparently Julie Martin was not available, because she wasn't there, or they just didn't want her to host.
That's interesting they didn't mention anything about Dao. If Dao leaves, I won't be too upset about it. The show can last without her. (I think..maybe there are some people out there who like her..IIRC, it is a pretty high rated show)
-
IMO, they should have four OCM's on that show, like they used to do with Evening Edition.
-
The 4-person thing never seems to work. They tried it with EE, EE Weekend, and Weekend:NOW.
EE Weekend gave it up first, then EE gave it up when Jim came on the show, and finally Weekend:NOW became Weekend Planner, and the four-person format was dropped shortly after.
Weekend View technically started with four people, with Steph being out in the field. Now we might even be down to two if Dao left.
-
So Dao permanently left Weekend View (or TWC for that matter)?
-
We don't know. We'll see what happens next weekend if she's not on there tomorrow.

My mind has drawn a blank. I can't even think of who was on the Weekend editoin of Evening Edition. Steve, can you refresh my memory? :D

Where do you get this stuff? Its like you don't read anything at all. :P

Well then...READ FIRST. :whistling:

No you don't get it. I haven;t see Dao Vu on Weeked View for a while either. So I'm coming up with the conclusion that she might have left WV. It's a just a rumour.

I actually forgot about the existence of that format myself until I found a tape of it last year. EE Weekend featured Carl Parker, Sharon Resultan, Dave Schwartz, and Lisa Mozer. Within several months, however, the format was broken up as Carl went to weeknight EE, Rick Griffin and Sharon took EE Weekend, and Dave and Lisa took EEWC. Not long after that, Lisa left TWC and was replaced by Sandra Diaz.
-
If Dao did leave, then that leaves Bill Keneely the only person that has been on WV since its beginning.

I just did some searching on this, and on the TWC media kit Dao Vu is indeed no longer listed as a part of the Weekend View team.
On another note, it looks like the media kit was redone recently because I found a cool new video showing what appears to be the new graphics for the HD launch later this year.
Here's a link to the video

OMG HD STAR LDL!?
(sorry bout that)
EDIT: STAR HD SCREENSHOT!? OMG!!!
(sorry bout that too)
-
Very, very interesting find, NYwxguy!
Thanks for sharing the video, and notifiying us about Dao Vu.
Maybe she is indeed gone.

Never mind the LDL, I think we saw the actual HD STAR! :thrilled: :thrilled: :thrilled:
-
I like the HD STAR if that's what it will look like. The LDL seems like it might be a bit large on the side, and I'm surprised that the logo is on the left.

Wow, you've finally posted! And it was a good one too!

If you will notice the B-roll in that video, its all stuff that has been used on TWC before.. They've been using HD cameras for at least 4 years now.
Edit: I'm going to try to get the rest of the b-roll used in that video.. It should be on the SAN... I could maybe do some screen shots then...
-
Something I realised as this is the first time I've seen the graphics (not the STAR, the CG) I've noticed that they are keeping everything within' the safe zone so when the video gets down converted and the pan scan effect is enabled, and the video changes to a 4:3 all the graphics are still included:
Red line represents a 4:3 TV's view of this video:

What exactly is a B-roll?

So in this sense, you're referring to the HD shots of nature in that clip that probably came from Epic Conditions and Weather Ventures?

Well, basically every shot in that was taken from somewhere else, such as aforementioned shows. But even the OCM shots of like Stephanie, and Paul were taken from a regular broadcast... The shots of Mike outside were all actual shots as well that were used on air at some point... I recognise a few from the Hurricane Dean promo. TWC has had HD cameras now for quite a few years, they have just been using the 4:3 shot vs the full 16:9.
The bolded part is a long thing to explain, I will explain it once I figure out a way to type it...
-
Also, adding on to what I meant before about searching the SAN... Who ever edited that entire promo, including the AfterEffects Star would have had alot of other footage to choose from of the creation, which I want to find! :P
-
Maybe this might help:
Did they have the capabilities to record 16:9 HD content, just not broadcast it? Because they could be recording the 16:9 HD, but only sending out a 4:3 SD.

That was the just of what I was going to say... But I was also going to include that they would have recorded just camera in 16:9 not the actual edited feed, but just the OCM infront of the wall with no map behind them... That way, in editing the editor could throw in the HD graphics behind them... Make sense?
