What have they done to my Sunrise Weather?
« on: June 10, 2012, 04:34:38 PM »
So I DVR'd TWC this morning to get my fullfill of my favorite 2.5 hour weekend morning weather forecast block, only to see that SeaTek ran a full hour from 4-5am ET this morning. What happened? :(

Aren't they supposed to air educational programming at that block? :o

In the past they've only aired it for a half hour from 4-4:30am ET, but this morning they ran it a full hour instead.

That isn't what I meant.. I never realized that SeaTek was an E/I program.

I believe it was modified to be an E/I program, because full 1:30 and 2 minute local forecasts still aired every 15 minutes.

Who would want to get up at 4 in the morning (ET) to watch E/I programming from TWC anyway?
TWCJim's STAR Database
TWCJim (main YouTube channel)
EASJim (second YouTube channel for my EAS and NWR videos)

It has to be done per FCC requirements.

It has to be done per FCC requirements.

Then they should just bring back the original Weather In the Classroom

The FCC E/I Requirement is only for TV Stations, not Cable Channels.

It could be any time really, but in modern times 4 AM has always been the time TWC has chosen to air educational programming

Probably because they have to show educational programming but don't really want to, so they figure they'll meet their requirements by still showing that kind of programming but at a time no one watches.

The whole concept of Cable in the Classroom back in the day was that teachers would record it for later use in the classroom.  Since this programming was intended to be recorded, it didn't really matter when it was shown.  Therefore, it was scheduled during the overnight hours when viewer impact would be minimal, meaning the channels could schedule more attractive programming during the hours when most people would be awake and watching TV.

Been told by Alex Wallace that they had technical issues, SW will be back this weekend.

They should've just played a half hour of Trammell with the Weather STAR 4000 looping TCF in its place.
