Weather Walking
« on: August 07, 2011, 08:20:23 PM »
I think that's the name of the segment.  The question was asked "how much does the sun cool off at night?".  Not one person that was interviewed got it right.

I like that segment, I love to laugh at some of the idiotic answers they give. I know most people aren't deep into weather, but my gosh I would think people would automatically know all four seasons of the freakin' year! (one guy didn't know them all when I watched it one night.)

It's actually Weather Walking. :P

I think the segment is such a hoot, because of how stupid the people can be how almost no one can get the stuff right.

Uh, I think you had it right the first time.  :P Some of that stuff really should be common sense to anybody. Like the one where Mark asked them to fill in the blank "When Thunder Roars, ______" I mean come on what else would it be? Where would you be going if you hear thunder?

I hate to say that it's funny about how many unintelligent people we have in this country, but some of the answers they give to what we think are easy questions are rather amusing. This Weather Walking/Walking Weather segment reminds me of the Jay Leno show or something.

This was right after the Phoenix Haboob happened...

They were asking people what a Haboob was. Now, there is a TWC microphone, a TWC camera, and most likely a TWC truck. One lady replied that a Haboob was a spice. Now why would TWC be asking about spices? I mean, come on :P

LOL, Well at least a Haboob is a harder one to know or figure out, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have said a spice if most likely it has something to do with weather.

Exactly, it is like Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" segment.  :P

Anyone here in Atlanta that can actually get an answer for him correct for once? :P

I fixed the title of this thread for you, Bryan.  The segment is indeed called "Weather Walking" as confirmed on a search of TWC's website.

Now, you all realize why I preach that education is the single biggest thing that needs to be done in Meteorology.  We can do our job as meteorologists, but if the general public remains clueless about weather as shown in this segment, then our warnings and forecasts mean nothing.  I've even wondered about starting a weather trivia game on this forum if anyone is interested.

You know my answer to that - a big old yes from me.

I haven't seen this segment yet, but it sounds very intriguing - not to mention extremely humorous.

When exactly does this segment air? I don't watch WC often and I've only seen it randomly and I want to watch it more often.

I almost think it is random. And, for example, today's "walking" segment (or one of today's) didn't have anything to do with weather...it was about how many people could fudge the spelling of Connecticut. I think I remember a segment awhile ago about our national anthem. So are these all the same thing, even though some don't have to do with weather? :dunno:

I find it frightening. It shows how under-educated many people are these days. Which means our schools aren't really teaching anything important. Sure it's nice to know how to recycle cans, but that kind of knowledge doesn't really transfer to anything in the real world. They might not be exciting subjects, but people need to know how weather works (so they can protect themselves), how our government (and more importantly how our constitution) works (so they can vote intelligently), etc...
