I wish we could see what was going on in the GFC area. Anyone found any recent pics?

I noticed when they started to use what is now the old 3D Studio (Green Screen) that the video quality was not the best. The color saturation was low, lighting was dark and who ever was standing on the left side had a blue light reflection on them which you can see in the last photo below.
During the construction the last two weeks it looked like they were using the old 3D Studio with the camera zoomed in for the map segments.

Since they switched to the new green screen the lighting and color is much better.
Attached are stills of the new green screen area, still of the new green screen in use and the old green screen.

I think this is part of the 'construction'. Heather gave us a behind the scenes look at their 'new key wall' at 12:41 PM ET.

So it's looking like construction that was done in the HD studio was to install this new permanent green screen where the WUWA set used to be (and the city-backdrop and starlight corner was before that)? :dunno:

So the WUWA set is gone? Forgive me, I don't watch WUWA.

The greenscreen above is the corner where the WUWA set/backdrop was.

Where does WUWA broadcast from then?

They use the greenscreen and just pop up a WUWA themed background now...

Where does WUWA broadcast from then?

Al Roker does his stuff from a studio in the GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Center in NYC and as mentioned Stephanie Abrams does her segments from The Weather Channel HD studio.

On the construction,
I always wondered when they started to use expert desk area if the Global Forecast Center in the background was a part of the old studios.
Am I correct that the HD studio was built and attached to the original building?

Where is the Digital Media Center in relation to the HD studio?

That's what it's looking like. If you compare this picture with a temporary green-screen (posted by Jesse) with the one above, it looks like the new "3D green screen" shown above has replaced the entire set.

Correct. I still don't get why they have to have the new permanent green screen stretch that far out, unless they plan to do wide shots or use it for "3D" effects, but yes, the former window backdrop/WUWA set is now defunct. Higher ups like how the high resolution graphics look a hell of a lot better on a green screen than on a blurry video wall. In the permanent setup, the lighted pillars have been turned off and they rotated one of the monitors around so they can see what they're looking at. I don't know if they're planning to do any more construction in the HD studio itself...

The new green screen stretches out to the floor so they can be walking on the graphics.
I noticed tonight the old green screen area is still being used.
They had Jim walking on a map. You could tell it was the old green screen because that blue light was reflecting on Jim and the video was noisy and darker.
When Jim was done they went to the new green screen for the Top5 segment with both OCMs standing in a wide camera shot. Old and new are shown in the images below.

As mentioned in the post above, this new green screen stretches out to the floor to provide "so-called" 3D effects (although I think a lot of us agree they could be a whole lot better).

But what is the old green screen area? I'm pretty sure the temporary green screen that was used before this one was installed doesn't exist anymore. Really, it can't...there's no room for it!

Crystal Egger posted a photo of the old 3D green screen area on March 25th when it was new.

It looks like they took the corner of a studio and painted it green.
That would explain why the keying does not look that good from it.
I'm not sure exactly were it is though its still in use.
I wonder if it will eventually only be used as a backup green screen?
