With the debut of the Hanna and Ike opener (in the style of Gustav's opener), it's time to open up this thread.
When it potentially gets closer/stronger, I request the title gets changed to "Official Hanna Storm Alert Thread".
-
I can tell they are overhyping since they are running 1 minute locals at :18 :38 :48 and :08
-
This is almost sick, TWC is deploying Mike Bettes to New York City tomorrow to prepare for the vague possibility for Hannah to make landfall there as a WEAK TROPICAL STORM! OMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!! :whistling:
-
TWC seemed to not be able to cover hurricanes enough, then all the sudden the lean mean hype machine cranks up when Gustav was just seconds before landfall....
-

Well, NYC doesn't get impacted by these storms much so that's probably why. After all, a tropical storm hasn't made it this close to my area since Floyd in 1999.
-
Live teaser/opener on EE tonight...
-
...and now a recorded teaser and opener at the bottom of the hour? How weird...
-
Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for my area now!
-
Oh no, TWC is becoming their old tropical-hype self from 2006. :whateva: Let's go into Storm Alert for Tropical Storm Hanna! :fire:
-
Let's go into Storm Alert for Tropical Storm Hannah! :fire:
Okay...yeah...let's do that!
:P
-
Yeah, that sounds like a plan!
-
Yeah, let's do so. :P
-
Must have found out their ratings for Gustav! Hey im ok for a storm alert
-
Why are they so worried about ratings?
-
Why are they so worried about ratings?
Because higher ratings equate to more money in the long run. :twothumbs:
-
Why are they so worried about ratings?
That's what the networks live for
-
Now for EEWC, they've omitted the EE opener in lieu of a Hanna opener. The hype! The HYPE!
-
Are we going to DIVE right into the HYPE?
(Oh wait, it's not the weekend yet. :P)
-
I wonder if Adam will be the "B" in A&B tomorrow or if they'll just have Steph do it from the studio alone.
-
Have they suspended the :08/:38 locals again?
-
...and what's with the freakin' red info bar for Hanna? They're not even in Storm Alert! (and yes, they've suspended the :08 and :38 locals)
Wow, this coverage is so much more dramatic than even the cat. 2 Dolly coverage now that they're riding on the Gustav ratings hype. To think something less than a major hurricane at landfall could cause such hype...

Clearly you guys haven't seen the commercial where they are pimping the fact they were the highest-rated news service for Gustav. It's gonna be a "OMG WE DA BEST" until after hurricane season now.
-
Yeah, I saw that commercial; IMO, it's borderline inappropriate how much they're gloating about their ratings.
-
They're basically in Storm Alert right now for Hanna. All they need to add is the official "Storm Alert" graphics and music.

YES! :twothumbs:
-
They just played the "Hanna & Ike" opener at the bottom of the hour using the Day Planner music; how odd.
-
The Hanna and Ike opener played at the start of weather center. Did TWC change the style of the regular open music for Day Planner and Weather Center? I'm not talking about playing the Storm Alert music with the regluar Open graphics.
-
I don't know what you heard before, but for this hour, they played the slow tempo Tropical theme over the Weather Center opener.
-
Yeah I got home and turned TWC on, and saw the red bar for Hanna (on the information bar I suppose). Rediculous. And yes, very immature on TWC's part. But, this video is VERY immature  (about tornado coverage locally) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmKrvO0PpGw
-
Why have they been playing the Tropical Update music for the Hanna and Ike openers? Don't they usually play the other theme that has a lower tone?
-
Can someone tell me why we just got an LF at :16 followed by the studio segment starting at :17?
-
If TWC wants to hit a new low tonight, I freakin' dare them. They did fine all season until now.
-
When did Storm Alert begin?
-
When did Storm Alert begin?
They aren't in Storm Alert.

Then what's with the sat/rad inset, and the red LDL, and all the other stuff generally associated with SA?

Those ARE Storm Alert related, for some reason they are using the red banner. They're not in FULL Storm Alert mode yet, however.
-
Why is TWCT in Storm Alert?
-
Why is TWCT in Storm Alert?
That's the same question I'm asking
-
TWCT might be caught in the hype too. I have AdBlock, so I can't see the banner.

I put it up figuring TWC was in Storm Alert mode. Although apparently they are not. I'm leaving it up though because I suspect TWC will be in SA tomorrow.
-
Nah, they shouldn't be in Storm Alert until at least Monday or so. I vote "take it down".
-
Do you think TWC will be in Storm Alert for Ike? :dunno: With this Hanna hype, they may go into "intense Storm Alert" even if it doesn't impact the U.S.
-
Who said this forum was a Democracy, Steve? :P :rofl2:
-
I vote that we pretend that there's a possibility that it's a democracy.
Oh wait... >_>
-
LOL. :rofl2:
Well I took it down...wait, I guess that means this forum IS a democracy (or else a terrible excuse for a dictatorship!). :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
-
:rofl2:
-
Rich is surprisingly off tonight; the gang show is next. :P
-
Ok, Rich came on at 1 AM CT, as stated in another topic.
BTW, the info scroll on the bottom is incorrect by saying that the last tropical system to make landfall on the east coast was Ernesto. Fay, anyone?
-
It made landfall, right?
-
It's taking place right now. As I understand it, the landfall isn't official until the entire center of circulation comes ashore.
-
What the heck? Adam just said that Jeff Morrow and "company" are coming up at the top of the hour. I guess TWC doesn't want the Weekend Outlook gang anchoring their landfall coverage.
-
Yeah, thanks
-
They're doing a special edition of Weekend Outlook with Jen and Jeff using the same set configuration as FO, but possibly with the less-experienced WO production staff; the camera work thus far has been less than stellar.
-
Now that I think of it, hasn't it been almost two years since Jeff and directly followed Rich on live shows? My how time flies...
-
....and suddenly, Weekend Outlook matters. Confusing as heck hearing Jen and Jeff...I thought I missed the weekend or something.

TWC BREAKING NEWS: I have Dish Network and on TWC SD, There is a TWC UPDATE LDL! I didn't read it all, but it look like it's talking about Hanna and Ike

This was actually first discussed (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/index.php/topic,1370.0.html) last night...

Try it now ;) The link didn't post right

I wonder how twc will handle Ike...
-
It all depends on how it turns out. From the looks of things, Ike is going to have to strengthen all over again after its Cuba landfall, but the NHC still forecasts it to be a major hurricane by Thursday, so Ike should wind up being a major event. It's still too early to know for sure, of course.
