New Shows: "Pyros," "Iceberg Hunters" and "Reefmakers.
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:01:09 PM »
The Weather Channel© Companies (TWCC) announced today that it has greenlit "Pyros," "Iceberg Hunters" and "Reefmakers." The three miniseries join "Turbine Cowboys," "Iron Men," and "Lights Out" (premiering Aug. 14) as the latest installments in "Braving the Elements," a new docu-series anthology revealing the work, subculture and characters of professions exposed to the elements and impacted by the weather.

These shows make TWC look stupid. I can't believe how the network has changed in a year.

The OCMs are going to have to find part-time jobs to supplement their incomes.

I laughed out loud when I saw this title. Mainly b/c I thought it said "reefERmakers." Pyros sounds cool, but iceberg hunters? Really? I swear they just pick show names/ideas out of a hat.

Don't we have enough shows about "ice" already?  The addition of new long-form shows is bad enough, but it's even worse when the shows become repetitive.

Do you guys have any evidence that they are just adding and adding more shows and not just bumping out others?

Anyways, these shows are part of the "Braving the Elements" series, meaning that once Iron Men is done these will fill its place.
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

Guess this is where the 3-consecutive hour long form programming comes in. Oh, joy .

(Sighs) They expect folks to watch these shows and yet they can't even come up with creative names.

These shows make TWC look stupid. I can't believe how the network has changed in a year.

Well when there is no more live weather shows like Weather Center Live or Day Planner we'll know why.

I would wait for the full TV schedule later this summer to find out if these are extra shows being added to the current schedule or simply acting as replacements.  You all realize this onslaught of long-form is only going to continue indefinitely, so we might as well learn to expect it even if we all agree that it's not good.

According to this post.. If I can interpret everything together, I am seeing where each show is 30 minutes long, 4 episodes each, starting at 9pm, would either cancel Weather Center Live at the 10pm slot, or move it to 11pm.

Please correct me if I'm not understanding that correctly.

I watched Pyros last night, and it is a really good show. I would be watching every episode if it weren't on TWC. Discovery would be a perfect network for it.

Exactly, the show belongs on any of the Discovery Network as does most of the Braving the elements series.

This just proves that NBC now treats all of its (non-sports) cable networks as "one and the same" in terms of programming.

I just had a thought - how much longer until The Weather Channel becomes "Discovery 2"? :cry3:

I'm done with this channel. It should cease operations as far as I'm concerned.
