Title: New Schedule
Post by: tpirfan28 on September 24, 2010, 10:12:59 AM
Monday-Thursday

4-6AM: First Outlook
6-7AM: Al
7-10AM: Your Weather Today
10-11AM: Al
11-2PM, 2-5PM: Day Planner
5-7PM: 4 Storm Stories
7-8PM, 8-10PM, 10-11PM, 11-1AM, 1-2AM, 2-4AM: Weather Center

Friday:
Same until 7PM
7-8PM: Weather Center
8-9PM: When Nature Strikes Back
9-10PM: Tornado
---this three hour block repeats until 4AM Saturday

Weekend:
4AM: Weather Classroom
4:30AM: Sunrise Weather
5-7AM, 7-9AM, 9-11AM: Weekend View
11-2PM: Weekend Now
2PM: Storm Riders
2:30PM: Storm Stories
3PM: Sea Tek
3:30PM: Cantore Stories
4-5PM: PM Edition
--- the whole 2-5 PM block repeats until 4AM, except that Weatherproof replaces Sea Tek at 8PM (and repeats with the block) and Weather Center replaces PM Edition at 10PM and also repeats with the block

I think this is a very good schedule...especially the weekday.  5-7PM I would think that most people would get their weather on their local newcasts, so why bother with live programming then?

It makes alot of sense to put longform on 5-7pm Monday - Friday because thats when local news is on and that's what most viewers are watching between that time.

I honestly think this was a wise decision on TWC's part. We shall see how this pans out.

It is a good schedule change. Makes sense to put longform 5-7pm, because local news is going on then. They still could have shown more weather reports on the weekends, IMO.

Things that I noticed:

No PME on weekdays...?  :noexpression:

Day Planner on until 5PM....? It's DAY Planner, not EVENING Planner...

Where you have that DP will be on at 11-2 and 2-5, does this mean it will be recorded and replayed at 5? Same thing for Weather Center.

The least thing they need to do is make some show name changes to fit the schedule.
PM Edition could be Weekend Edition, or something like that.
Day Planner's 2nd show (if it is not going to be pre recorded) could be Evening Planner

Overall, I like the change :)

Could this be the answer from that question Nicole asked earlier? She mentioned "program changes" which got me thinking...

Overall, I am a bit satisfied on the schedule. Longform from 5-7 pm et? Love it. Most viewers are watching the news during those hours.

I like this schedule, especially weekdays. Although a six hour Day Planner is a little too much... not to mention its bright yellow and blue graphics are too bright for the latter half. With no more midday programming, this would be a great idea to move Weather Center back to middays. PME can then air from 7-10pm, then another show title for Paul and Nicole from 10pm-4am.

It's also nice now to only have as much as two straight hours of long-form programming at a time now. It hasn't been like this since the beginning of last year.

You know what this schedule also means? More exposure to the smooth jazz daytime playlist! :D Live programming airs during the entire daytime part on weekdays, and we also have another hour of live programming on weekends.

OK, from what Zach and Mike said, "Day Planner" from 2 PM to 5 PM is just not going to work out. :nono: They need to have that segment be PM Edition. Once again, TWC is being dumb, but I guess the two-hour longform slot is alright for the average viewer (although I tend to watch TWC during that time. <_<)
Title: Re: New Schedule
Post by: toxictwister00 on September 24, 2010, 07:18:50 PM
The weekday format didn't bother me that much, it was the weekend format that drove me up the wall with the strings of pointless long form programming regardless of whether or not weather doesn't happen on the weekends according to TWC.  :P It's nice to see they added a little more live programming for the weekend and I gotta agree with Andy about the 2-5pm edition of DP, that should be PM edition, it's gonna be the same hosts anyway, it'll just be on 2 hours earlier.

Based on how news-oriented TWC has become (WUWA, of course), I'm surprised TWC hasn't tried competing with the local newscasts. I guess people want LOCAL news instead of national, and maybe NBC can't compete with itself.

Exactly, because during longform, you only hear 1 min LFs. Plus it makes sense, because the daytime playlist is the best playlist, because it has smooth jazz.

that's absurd...that's the final straw for me. PM Edition was always my favorite show. I rarely even watch TWC anymore, but now I have even more of an excuse not to.

edit: this had to have been a last minute decision, I remember someone posted the Q3 & Q4 programming, and nothing was suppose to change.

I personally like the LDA and 33% LDL - a lot more information can get conveyed that way.  And, since the regular programming on TWC has decided that weather is allowed to take a backseat at times, it seems like the LDA and larger LDL are the best way sometimes for getting real weather information.

I disagree, the LDA/LDL had to be the worst idea ever created for the HD channel

The Info would be better suited on a 33% LDL but it seems TWC hasn't budged on creating one.

I agree alex.. And plus the 16% LDL is the size of the original IS LDL and the LDA just puts 16:9 programming in 4:3..

I'm guessing the 2-5pm Day Planner is for west coast viewers, where it's 11am-2pm there.

If that's the case, then "West Coast" or something should be added to the title. I know Kyle and a few others don't like "West Coast" at the end of a show name, but for the majority of the viewers in the east, Day Planner until 5 PM just doesn't make sense.

And EEWC didn't matter because it was still the evening no matter where you were. :P
Title: Re: New Schedule
Post by: Eric on September 26, 2010, 10:46:19 PM
I remember a long time ago the overnight programming on The Weather Channel, especially when I was visiting my grandparents during summer vacation, who were night owls themselves, meaning no one cared when I slept, so long as I got enough sleep in a 24-hour period.  :)

Things seemed so much more laid back and calm overnight back then, meaning, something quite enjoyable for someone to watch who's not yet tired enough to fall asleep yet has no specific desire to stay awake.  I even remember the super-long local forecasts at the top of the hour when The Weather Channel rewound the tape to rebroadcast the overnight programming again.

Like many of you, I am really liking this new schedule.  Seems like a smart move to me.  As many of you said, having long form on from 5-7 is a great idea because that is when most people are watching their local evening news.  Brilliant.  That is probably when many families sit down and eat dinner or go over homework (if families still do that :P ).

I am a fan!
The only thing I don't get is the who Day Planner from 2-5 thing.  I don't think anyone is planning there day at 2PM (except the west coast, as some have mentione).  Oh well. As long is it is mostly weather, I'm good.

i like the new schedule i think they have decided to quit putting every little big event in red mode anymore i noticed the east coast deluge coverage wasnt in red and when they say the latest you know when the put the LATEST with whats happening with red background and clouds moving by now its the color of the program backgrounds yellow or blue thats a plus the hype may have gone down some and the new video everytime new video would come in what happened red mode that doesnt happen to much with new video either so mabie the old simple twc is coming back some(i hope )

That doesn't make sense because that storm was on a weekend and TWC preempts longform in a big event anyway. I think the change back i stupid. Sure having PM Edition graphics is fine but I actually watched TWC A LOT more in the afternoon between 1-4

I posted that because i thought that might've lead to the decision oh well :bleh:

i guess TWC saw DP Afternoon as a fail and just decided to revert back.

Finally regarding Playlists it's good for the Primetime Daypart because it removes the possibilities of having 1 min LF songs anymore.

My guide says SS 2-4 weekdays, and Saturday long form 2-5 PM, PME 5-8 PM, and the schedule repeats until 4 AM Sunday. Sunday, however, remains unchanged from the current weekend schedule

Wait.. don't want to get real excited here and I want confirmation of this: No WUWA??? I assume it's all temporary or something.
It's a glitch with the schedule. I think we can all agree that WUWA is what's keeping TWC's ratings up by far. ;)

While I was looking at the Guide schedule, I see the old-fashioned programming. Long Form programming is from 2-4pm ET weekdays, and 2-5pm ET weekends, and 8-11pm ET weekends, and also the return of PM Edition weekdays from 4-7pm ET. This is still incomplete, when I watch this, it is still unchanged.

So is PM Edition back now from 4-7, or are they just doing extended coverage today? (My tv Guide says its PM Edition)  :dunno:

It's still Day Planner, apparently.

Hard to say what I think about TWC reverting back to the old schedule. On one note I like it because I usually turn on the TV and see TWC at 4pm my time, which is now the longform block. But on another note, I also turned on TWC earlier when longform was on so I don't know.

TWC was still showing the Storm Stories 5PM EST lot8's promo throughout today so we'll see what tomorrow's lineup brings.

As of today, TWC has not reverted back to the old schedule.

I guess I have mixed feelings about it. I don't like it starting at 1:00 pm (my local time).  We'll just have to get used to it.
