TWC made the mistake of turning their weather show into a morning show with a cast of to many people.
We don't need news, sports and entertainment segments on The Weather Channel.
I'd expect changes to make the show more about weather if people continue to go elsewhere when AMHQ is on.
If TWC is paying attention to social media people keep saying the want more weather on AMHQ,

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/sam-champions-amhq-debut-ratings_b217831

“AMHQ” drew 207,000 total viewers and 64,000 A25-54 demo viewers from 7am-10amET, down -12% in viewers and down -14% in the demo from the Weather Channel’s prior four-week average in the timeslot.

That's to be expected - any change like this is going to cause a drop in ratings as you get viewer turnover from people dropping out.  The question for TWC is do they get anyone to come back or attract new viewers to replace the ones lost.

Having watched a few segments over two days, while growing pains and working out a flow for a new show will take some time (rehearsal can only do so much), the big red flag to me is that Champion does not appear to be very comfortable being the main guy.  The focus is all on him and he seems very nervous. (He kept mentioning that his over-talking was causing them to run late - hey, maybe if you didn't keep mentioning that, you wouldn't be late!)  If that doesn't change, this show is screwed.

As an aside, it's crazy to me that you unveil a brand new on-air look built around flat colors and then roll out a show with chrome elements that stick out like a sore thumb.

Oh, there is one good thing: it's a really nice set.  Looks pretty versatile too.  Wonder if they'll use it for occasional shots on WCL whenever that show moves back into the main studio.

EDIT: I still think it's a little too early to invoke ratings.  However, if you're interested, Day 2 of AMHQ lost 10% of its audience from Day 1.  No matter the weather, someone is likely starting to sweat a bit in Atlanta.

It's ironic people complained when Al Roker came over to do a show that it would less about weather when his show does more weather segments than AMHQ does. Besides an occational non weather related guest there are no sports or entertainment segments on Wake Up With Al.

Day two of the Weather Channel’s new morning show “AMHQ” with Sam Champion was down from day one. The show averaged 186,000 viewers Tuesday, down -10% from the premiere on Monday and down -21% from the prior four-week average.

Also, I saw Ads of AMHQ on other cable networks that are not owned by NBC. (And no, that was not aired during a Local Insert)

What's WUWA's ratings like? I'm curious since it is AMHQ's lead in. If WUWA's numbers are weak too that can play a factor also. Regardless, those are very significant drop offs all across the board for that show.

Well I guess that leaves three options:
They can wait it out and hope things improve overtime (over the next few weeks/months)
They can start going back to the drawing board and retool the show.
They will pull a "Katie Couric" and kick Sam Champion to the curb as soon as his contract expires.

Given what Adrian said about the advertising on non-NBC channels they will probably wait it out awhile and hope things improve.

I briefly had on TWC this morning during AMHQ and I heard Maria mention the 7 day was coming up next.

They must be responding to the complaints about wanting more forecast segments.
The 9am hour today had more forecast segments and the 7 day forecast.

The only blocks without forecast segments were b that had a report on the Colorado River then entertainment junk and the last block which was about parachute jumping and the U.S. Special Ops.

I watched the debut and to me, there's too many people.  You need four people to run a show?  Plus 4 hours is a very long time.  The set looked nice and that effect of the map coming up off the floor was interesting.  Being a new show, it's going to take some time to get the flow working, which it needs...

Playing devil's advocate here.  How is 4 people too many?  Good Morning America has 5 and they are the highest rated morning show.  Is it too many people for the format?

Given the fact that the show is not supposed to be like the other live weather shows, 4 is a solid number of hosts to have.

I'm sure to an extent Sam and the producers of the show wanted AMHQ to be similar to a GMA format.

I watched the first hour this morning, and I have to say this show is really hard to watch.  Mike looks very uncomfortable, and there doesn't seem to be much chemistry between the four.  They say in the promos "It all begins with weather" (or something along those lines), but there's not really much weather.  I wonder how long this format will last.  Kind of reminds me of "Weekend View" several years back.

I feel it's just too many.  It could be done with three but I feel like they're keeping Maria and Mike just so they each have some on-air time.

TWC did not need a version of the Today Show. The sports and entertainment segments have to go. More weather.
