There's plenty of local mets weather presenters here and around the country that don't have a meteorological degree. As long you know how to read a teleprompter, point accurately at the map, have good charm and charisma you can work as a "on air meteorologist". I personally don't like that. I think if you're going to work in a certain profession, it would be nice if you knew the ins and outs of it. Then again when you work in the broadcasting field, it makes sense why stations don't give a rat's red butt if you have a degree or not because you're considered talent anyway, like an actor I guess.
