this was announced today, Comcast has placed a bid that NBC approved to merge the companies to create one new company. This is pending government approval. Now I don't necessarily hate Comcast, but WHAT THE HELL..?!
heres a business link: http://dailylocal.com/articles/2009/12/02/business/doc4b156a388b067234724260.txt (http://dailylocal.com/articles/2009/12/02/business/doc4b156a388b067234724260.txt)

Same here i'm shocked
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts told Cnbc: It comes down to the programming channels, are what are growing in the content area. This company will have if not "The Best" a fantastic suite of cable channels, each a multimedia brand, each growing and we are very excited today.

Just as long as Comcast doesn't ruin NBC properties like they ruined TechTV.... :club:

Does this mean big changes ahead for TWC?

I am surprised nobody posted this earlier. The deal was made public several days ago. They are not merging but Comcast is purchasing 51% of NBCU, GE will have something around 49% after purchasing Vivendi's share of NBCU. I HIGHLY doubt you will see any changes to TWC. The deal wont even be finalized for months if not a year.
-
i dont think comcast can do too much to TWC, dont forget that NBC isnt the sole owner of the channel, there are two other holding companies with TWC. even if comcast wanted to do something with TWC, it would be to expand comcast's programming, like, adding TWC's long form programming to the OnDemand list. thats my 2 cents on that thought.

I wish Darby would be fired but it looks like Comcast is keeping most of the people from NBC.

Comcast isn't keeping anything.... they don't even control anything yet. Why are so many people hating on Darby? The TWC wiki was horrendous. You all make it seem like every bad idea at TWC over the past year was from him. I am not saying I like him but everyone seems to be looking for someone to blame and he seems to get the finger.

Because it's pretty obvious that's he was the NBC exec who played a big role into the changes in TWC....movies, extra longform, music, and even WUWA in some sort.

I agree with Molly... if it wasn't Darby who else would have made the changes?

Movies and extra longform were in the works long before NBC had any role in TWC...
-
Well, if they wanna air movies, air WEATHER-related movies, not the Misery or that long form crap they aired for a short time that had nothing to do with weather
-
Well, excessive longform is inexcusable. People tune to TWC to see their weather should severe weather develop or a massive snowstorm move in. Most people do not tune into TWC to see the same episode of Storm Stories or High Seas Rescue that airs 10 times a week.

TWC relys on stupid ratings companies instead of actual viewer comments as a way to make tons of cash only to make more long form episodes and excessive advertising. Sad, but true. :(
-
Yup, nothing us viewers can do on our end. We're just going to have to put up with their moves. It's TV these days- what else would ya expect?
-
You all are once again forgetting that our viewership accounts for a very small minority in comparison to the rest of the general TWC audience. People like those shows. If they didn't, TWC wouldn't air them.

Can't say if that's true or not. All the people I've talked to in person don't like these changes either. I'd be interested in exactly who enjoys this.

Unless you've talked to everybody in the country, Tyler's point still applies. Believe it or not, there ARE people that enjoy TWC's programming, and ratings show that.
-
I guess it depends on where you live then. Philly does have a unique viewership compared to many other areas after all.

Well, there comes a point in time when you can shove too much down a person's throat. TWC does not make any new episodes of Storm Stories, WWCH, or ICHT anymore, and they keep re-running the same episode to the point where you can see it several times a week. I don't see what is wrong with some long form, but they have way too much on now. I too know a lot of people that have complained about it. What I take out of this is simply that they want to pay OCMs for fewer hours, and long form is an excuse to do that.
