Title: Late night HD launch, part tres
Post by: Spring Rubber on July 12, 2008, 03:41:11 AM
Ugh, I'm still dead tired after staying up for all of Leo Laporte's "24 Hours of iPhone" Thursday and Friday, I'm still going to try to pull this off and report on the WV HD launch. I'm actually getting bored waiting.

Great, it's looking like I might get hit with bad weather just in time for the WV HD launch. I can't guarantee that I'll even have the video of the first segment in HD, which I'd really like to provide you guys. Hopefully it all goes well, though.

It looks like they've decided to use the desk (faced the same way as PME) and keep Bill wearing a tie, so basically Weekend View is now the same program as Weekend Planner, just with a different name.

Oh, and instead of using the opener they've used all along, they're using one that just quickly generates the logo and features the same cut of music as the Weekend Outlook opener.

At the top of the hour, they used a recorded teaser with lame production music for the the teaser and the opener. I'm kind of disappointed by this launch overall. :/

Yea, I am not too enthused by this launch either

I liked how Weekend View had it's own studio. Now the show is formatted just like Weekend Now to me.

Wait a minute...I thought the whole purpose of Weekend View was to deliver the weather in a slightly different way than other segments, so WV has meterologists sitting on a couch around a coffee table.  Now it's just like any other segment? Not cool. I thought WV was using the couch in the interview corner of the HD studio.

that was the intent of WV at first, however obviously that has since changed...as for the coach - we can pretty much say that it's the interview area like it says on their website, and that it'll only be used for that - interviews.

If they were just going to do this with weekend view, they might as well dropped the show and brought back weekend planner.

I don't even see a couch in the interview area yet. I wonder if there was a problem getting that in there as of right now.

WV is pointless now, IMO. It lost it's individuality which separated it from all the other shows.

I agree with you 100% Tyler. I thought WV was supposed to "stand out" but now it's just like any other segment.

A&B is about the only show with individuality; heck even YWT and EEWC have more individuality! :P

A&B is about the only show with individuality

And even A&B is starting to be just like other segments (kind of). It still has individuality, though.

So let me get this straight. You all moan that you wish TWC is as it used to be-the same thing throughout the day, very little individuality at all. Now that it is like that again, you all are whining that you wish it had MORE individuality. Gosh, you guys just can't be pleased.

Steve, are you sure we would be able to see the couch during PM Edition, or is the desk in the way? I'm just curious because on YWT's first day in HD, they showed views of the HD studio, one being the interview corner. In the interview corner view, the red couch was already in place. However, this view could have been "fake" because there are two grey TWC logos on the wall currently that were not present in the screenshot of the interview corner during YWT.

Maybe they could get right of Weekend View and expand Weekend Now and have it run almost all morning long, much like pre-2003.

You're right season lover. I will say that even the TWC logo on the A&B desk wasn't there when they first launched; a few things have changed since the first day. Perhaps indeed the couch can be easily removed from the studio. You would definitely see it if it were there; I can see the back wall from the PME shot.

Behind the PME shot, I can, however, see a small glass table and a desk chair. I wonder what they use that for.

I actually don't mind all that much for Weekend View, now that I watched it today.  They have a few different views.  At least no Dao.  But, I just expected a little more from the launch

You is right. :P
