Looks like TWC is bringing back movies again. A 1997 TV movie Into Thin Air: Deaths on Everest will be on TWC Friday March 26, 2010.

I think this is worth watching. I actually have the book, and haven't seen the TV adaptation.
-
flick and a forecast.... clever.
Wonder how many weeks these will last
-
Whoever thought up that title needs a promotion. That is brilliant.
I see it running from 8-10:30 on my guide, repeats from 10:30-1, then overnight Weather Center. (Off Topic - Weather Classroom is on 3/27 at 4AM)

If it's a good enough run maybe until fall.

Sounds like they just want viwership and money. :itsok:

That is the goal for anything they do...
I am not a fan of movies, so I probably won't watch.

:thrilled:
-
So far, they haven't promoted it like the earlier movies last fall (almost no results on Google).
-
Well this is....interseting
Have you heard about Flick and a Forecast? Toure and I will be hosting The Weather Channels Friday night movie night. The set is super cool. The movie lineup is awesome. It's going to be a lot of fun on Friday nights! I'll get some pictures up asap.

Yeah, I was gonna post that earlier today. Looks like we should be seeing a new set this Friday night.

Anybody ever heard of Toure? Apparently he makes appearances on MSNBC. Do a Google search and see what comes up...

It sounds like this is going to be a permanent thing now, as the ads for this segment say "Fridays at 8PM."
-

Last time when I googled, he's a contributor for MSNBC. That's all.

I REALLY like this promo! Tube does an excellent job.

Looks good!

Looks like this is a permanent thing. I see a list of 26 movies for this

Hooray for Groundhog Day!
And.. March Of The Penguins is on the list again.
-
this is really good for friday evenings. its a change-up from the traditional. although i would expect coverage of storms when the time comes, but for fridays when its quiet outside, the forecast sounds right with movies!
-
On the premiere of "Flickindaforecast" :P
-
just heard some non-playlist music @ 9:31 PM EDT

As long as the dual feed is used when the wx calls for it I am fine with it too!
-
Yeah, I wonder what was up with that weird song insert deal. Sounds to me like they played two songs throughout all the erratically scattered local forecasts. I wasn't planning on watching it though... that's why it helps to record non-stop :P

Hmm i missed it. Ill check that out

So, did Weather Classroom end up airing at 4AM like it said in the schedule, or was it still the WWCH episodes?

It was Tube Creative. They do a lot of great work! They've done It Could Happen Tomorrow, Full Force Nature, Storm Stories promos, several LOT8s opens, the old Weatherscan promo (from the BWTL era), and more recently, the WUWA promo with the clocks, and all the movie night promos.

Because of Bill Murray, I've gotta see this one. :rofl2:

I've gotta see this one. :rofl2:

You and me both.
So far this week, I have watched just one LF. That's it with TWC.
-
It does seem like a funny movie, but I'm probably not going to watch it. Hope you enjoy it, Zach!
-
It also depends, my parents don't have a good taste in movies, and I'm like Aaron & Mike to where I want LFs, so maybe my mind is changed. :noexpression:
-
did anyone catch the title that will be played this week ?
-
I've gotta see this one. :rofl2:

Not to be rude at all, and as much as I hate to say it, isn't attempts to raise money and get viewers what the weather channel has to do to keep running, along with all other networks? It really stinks how it's all about money and viewership, and this has caused TWC and others to stray away from their original intent, or as I like to say it, they get MTV'd. I guess I'm just saying I can't blame TWC, they have to do what they have to do and accomidate to everyone, not just the members of this board who don't want things to go in this direction.
-
did anyone catch the title that will be played this week ?
Evidently it's "The Avenger". I see no weather relation.
-

It has to do with a situation where a person tries to control the weather for his own power and advantage. The film got really low ratings though based on critics.
-
Ok I don't mind TWC showing a movie. But when there's a Tornado outbreak going on how come I can't see what's going on. On the Weather Channel. You'd think a Tornado outbreak would draw some ratings for them. No I turn it on and see a movie. I want my TWC from the 90s back.

Ditto!

I'm getting second thoughts about F&F. It seems like they are rubbing it too much, even during severe weather outbreaks.

WAY too much, my friend.
-
Maybe they used the double-feed feature, so that people in the affected areas would receive live weather updates, while everyone else saw the movie? Still, I think the wise thing to do would have been to cancel the movie for everyone. Actually, I don't know why The Weather Channel is showing movies in the first place! Actually, I do. NBC now considers The Weather Channel to be just another programming outlet in its family, regardless of TWC's stated purpose.
-
Apparently Jim Cantore isn't happy about this. I bet those 3 people who died Friday night would've been alive provided that they were watching TWC and they were covering the outbreak at the time.

This Concept really needs to go.
-
It's amazing how much controversy over this there really is, and yet, TWC (or NBC, whatever works) is doing not a thing about it. No offense to possible fans, but this "Toure" guy looks like a joke to me.

I'm highly doubtful of that. Many areas that were hit that night are rural, and I wouldn't expect too many Intellistars to be in that part of the country. Still, all the complaints about the lack of coverage that night is what makes me doubtful.
-

A few years ago that may have been true, but not any more. The majority of STARs out there are IntellISTARs, even in rural areas.

And I thought Martin or someone said the dual feed was being used that night.

Only because TWC is the DNC/Obama propaganda channel.

-
I completely agree - Jim Cantore has every right to be mad. I'm sure that, when he signed on to work on The Weather Channel as a meteorologist, he never expected he'd have to compete for air time with movies!
The Weather Channel NBC really dropped the ball on this one!
-
I'm sure that, when he signed on to work on The Weather Channel as a meteorologist, he never expected he'd have to compete for air time with movies!
Oh he's not trying to compete. He's just a true meteorologist, who wants only to do his job and share what he knows with viewers. He's an asset to TWC, and I think even NBC realizes that.

Just a head's up, the first airing of Volcano is supposed to be preempted for everyone, but the airing at 10pm will go on as schedule. I heard Nick mention this earlier today. Let's see if they're gonna stick to their guts this time.
-
We shall see. Looks like they are sticking to their word
-
I'm much more inclined to watch "Ghostbusters" on TV Land than I am to watch the second "Volcano" movie TWC has aired inside a month.

I gotta agree. I saw part of it and it looks pretty good.

So is there no "Flick and a Forecast" tonight? My guide is showing "Tornado Road" airing from 8pm to 2am.
-
I really don't care for Flick and a Forecast. I have not watched it, and I don't think I will. Who wants to see movies on the Weather Channel?! I grew up in the 90s, and sometimes I would spend hours watchin TWC instead of cartoons, because I was fascinated with with their weather coverage, and I loved their music. Now, on weekends, you virtually can't see any sort weather coverage except for the morning. There's Flick and a Forecast, and then there's all that other programming like Storm Chasers and Tornado. I was pleasantly surprised last week to see that TWC actually pushed aside their programming to show coverage of the tornados.
-

Really? My guide says the same thing. I'm starting to have a bad, but slightly good feeling about this.
-
Jen confirmed on her twitter account that they'll be no "Flick and a Forecast" tonight.
http://twitter.com/jencarfagno (http://twitter.com/jencarfagno)
Wonder why?
-
for sake of argument, ive noticed a bunch of programming changes since the dishnet/twc situation. im sure anyone whose payed attention to what happens between 8pm-4am has noticed what i mean. also 3pm ive noticed something different too.

Not enough time to watch TWC, can you let us know what these changes are?
-
Well one thing I have noticed is that advertising for Flick and a Forecast has been dialed back a bit in recent weeks. More promotion for products and services (Notify and iWitness), in addition to ads that are attempts to make TWC look good. Reasoning seems obvious to me. :P

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. The whole Dish/TWC dispute may have changed how TWC does their longform programming. I can bet y'all that this coming Friday we wont even see Flick and a Forecast again.
-
I haven't seen a single ad about FAAF in more than a week, then again I don't watch TWC hours a day anymore like you guys.
-
Hopefully it's gone for good, but I'm not too hopeful. Right now my guide is showing "Riding Giants" airing next Friday. Apparently it's some 2004 documentary about the evolution of surfing. Sounds riveting.

Guess we are going back into the old random shows in the NBC library like that Atlantis thing.
-
What exactly is the point of them replacing FAF with longform during those hours? It would help to just bring back the regular TWC programming
-

Supposedly ratings on Friday nights are low which TWC thinks is an excuse to not show live programming...
-
Hmm, I have been wondering this for a while. Where does the "forecast" part in "Flick and a Forecast" come in? I am assuming it's just Local on the 8's?
-

Correct.

Hmm, I have been wondering this for a while. Where does the "forecast" part in "Flick and a Forecast" come in? I am assuming it's just Local on the 8's?
That, and the LDL, when it's on. I've never watched "Flick and a Forecast" for more than a few seconds at a time, but there have been times when I tuned in and even the LDL was gone! In fact, that's when the TWC logo was made transparent. So, it was basically just "Flick" with not even the remotest idea of a "Forecast" anywhere.
Isn't that what the LDL is supposed to do... provide weather information? On The Weather Channel? And some big wig exec came to the decision that the LDL is now superfluous, what with all that weather information distracting from a fine feature film in NBC's library?! :censored: :censored: :censored:
-
Hmm, I have been wondering this for a while. Where does the "forecast" part in "Flick and a Forecast" come in? I am assuming it's just Local on the 8's?
Correct.
You know this for sure after contacts with TWC?
Is there any other answer? "Flick and a Forecast" has existed for a while now, and if there happened to be another part of the "Forecast," wouldn't we have found out by now?
-
I never liked "Flick and a Forecast". I just wish The Weather Channel would actually report the weather continously like they used to instead of playing the same episodes of Storm Stories and When Weather Changed History hours a day.
-

I'm being optimistic, but if this hurricane season turns out to be anything close to active as 2005 or 2004 like I believe it will be, we might see a lot of that put on the back burner. I'm hoping we'll get that side of TWC back, they were always at their best doing hurricane coverage.
-
I too dislike "Flick and a Forecast", but it seems like NBC likes to add this type of programming to the channels that they own. Even CNBC is going to show movies on friday nights, although this just seems for the summer:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/37218663/COMING_THIS_SUMMER_CNBC_PRESENTS_CNBC_CINEMA (http://www.cnbc.com/id/37218663/COMING_THIS_SUMMER_CNBC_PRESENTS_CNBC_CINEMA)
Plus there news network (MSNBC) is a joke when it comes to news coverage on weekends or holidays. They'd rather show Lockup or other crime documentaries.
-

Zero comparison. CNBC only programs new programming from 5AM-8PM, then airing either new or repeated documentaries or NBC programs. They don't have content to cover outside of that point, especially on a Friday night (no market is open on Saturday).
CNBC is also very preemptive happy - when the "flash crash" happened, they added international programming almost instantly for that night.
-
I really wasn't making a comparison there, sorry if you interpreted it that way. Damn internet and all. Just passing along some news.
See you later sweetie.  I

Flick and a Forecast is the ultimate Jump the Shark Moment for TWC. I just read on AOL that a lot of people, including Jim Cantore, are upset about TWC seemingly concerned about entertainment nowadays. Dish Network treatened to remove TWC from their programming because actual weather has become an afterthought. I wonder if Gilligan's Island is going to show on TWC next, since it is "weather-related", though that would be kind of fun :P. I sure hope not, but it would not shock me to see TWC continue to air F&F on Friday, while a hurricane or tropical storm is affecting the US.

Hurricane coverage trumps all... It's the best time for TWC to get and brag their big multimillion viewer ratings, upwards of almost 56 million people tuned in at one point or another, not necessarily all at the same time...

Agreed. I never watch it at all nor I'm never plan to. This has nothing to do with weather.
Movies and news craplines (prefer it on news channels) on weather channel= :hammer: :club:

Once again, there's no FAAF on my schedule for tomorrow; it shows back to back Storm Stories and Storm Riders from 9pm-1am. On next Friday for hurricane week, there's various programming that night with WC during the 10pm and 1am hour.
-
you know.. this brings to mind why networks like BBC America are showing stuff like Star Trek: TNG, simply because of Patrick Stewart. its like .. w-t-f mate? More Doctor Who, less Star Trek (even though i like star trek, just not on BBCA)
my two cents :)
-
looks like twc pulled "Riding Giants" and now it looks like a block of storm stories and storm riders 9pm -1am for this Friday and hurricane long form next Friday 8pm to 10pm and repeating 11pm to 1am
-
Well, this is a very interesting decision. Did TWC decide that sticking with weather-related long form is better than the movies?
Honestly, it doesn't matter very much since it doesn't help anyone get the weather information they need during severe weather; it seems like it's just a show to the media like, "Gee look, we heard you complaining about how our movies are barely related to weather, so we put up repeats of long form that we've shown a million times before, but it sure looks better for us since it's related to weather!"

Somehow I knew this was coming... after the April 30 incident. I'm very glad they dropped it, but I'm not glad they added more longform. I'm still not satisfied with that. But still, it brings alot of ratings, so theres nothing we can do about that.
-
I dont think this was ever a permanent feature. Don't worry, they will fill it with plenty of longform. ~sarcasm~
-
I dont think this was ever a permanent feature.
I knew this was a pure mistake. I don't know if the September/October movie showings were going to be permanent, but with FaaF, it seemed that way. Now watch them come out with another name for the concept later on. :P
