General Discussion / Re: This forum seems to be very quiet anymore.

The night before a major relaunch was always interesting, as well. Weeks of guessing and anticipation, building to a head.

Local Forecast / Re: Smooth Jazz Return!
« on: May 14, 2017, 12:06:57 AM »No one said or implied that younger members wouldn't understand what being an adult was like. "Max" just said that since many of us are adults now, we don't have as much time to comment as we used to.
^This. The point was to try and give an answer as to why this place has been so quiet; a large portion of the user-base is of similar age to me (give or take), and we've got other/new/more pressing interests or issues. You'll still find a fair chunk of us around, but it's more of a casual observer role that most of us fulfill these days.

« on: May 12, 2017, 05:15:02 PM »We also gotta factor in social media usage. I know I'm guilty of it too, although sometimes it feels good to disconnect while on the go.When I first joined the old forum, this was social media to me, because it was before I knew about Facebook. Yes, samehere, I'm not on here as much either.
Same! I remember when the old IRC chat would get chugging along, especially if something big was happening. Online interactions changed in a way a lot of us could never have anticipated in 2007, '08, or '09.

« on: May 12, 2017, 10:07:23 AM »So what's the future of this forum? Is it going to stay up or are we going to shut it down at the next hosting renewal period?Excellent news! I am just glad something has happened to wake up this group. (The silence has been deafening )
Most of the community has moved on to other things, or become busy with the realities of adult life. Ebb and flow, man.
That's arguably a good question, one that I don't really know the answer to.
I presume until then you will inspire those of us that have not grown up to adulthood yet but rather gave into fandom of this forum...
Before I push us too far off the rails and into the weeds, I would like to clarify my original statement a bit. The point I'm trying to make (and articulated poorly) is that a large number of the content producers and discussion contributors have gone on to other things. If you read back into posts from 2007-2013, there were a lot of active users who just aren't around here anymore, for a lot of different reasons. Some moved on to other phases in their lives. Others don't have the amount of time to watch as much anymore (because we're not coming home after grade school or high school anymore) or the resources (cable/satellite is spendy when you're on your own, even the streaming packages). Some just grew disenchanted with the direction that the network took; for some that started in July 2008, for others that didn't bottom out until WATT. Others just kind of phased into different places; they'll still check in, but less often. At the end of the day, you still have a community that lost a large number of its main content producers. Does that mean we should shutter our doors? I'm inclined to say no, especially because this place still acts as a really solid reference site for a lot of TWC history and info.
TL;DR - I don't think the community is going to be what it once was, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. If you'd like discussion to occur, take the reins and start having it. It's quieter here, these days, but silence can end when you start discussing things. If you see something interesting, talk about it. If you have a question, bring it up. It might take longer to hear back with an answer than it used to, but this place can still act as a resource. Failing that, read back through 10 years of threads. There's some pretty funny stuff buried in there.

Essentially, posts. Participate in discussions, as it's not time-based.

« on: March 26, 2017, 03:48:43 PM »Good riddance on Anaridis. They literally gave a non-meteorologist a full time position while letting go of the actual meteorologists during her time on the Network. That never set well with me.
Nothing they haven't done before.

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan not being offered in Shamrock Lakes, Indiana
« on: March 03, 2017, 04:38:30 PM »We knew this was coming at some point, though. They system has been "frozen in time" since before the HD launch, if I remember correctly. Plus, WATT makes a lot of the WeatherScan product redundant (at least on the surface). Yes, I know there are products not featured or offered on WATT, and that certain viewers don't actually see weather "all the time" but it's close enough that they most likely have no qualms about phasing it out.I agree, but Weatherscan is surprisingly popular in areas where it's still offered. I remember Evan saying on here that ratings for it on his cable system were above ESPN at one point. That's pretty damn impressive if you ask me.
I think Weatherscan will be around for a while, and TWC will probably keep the data feed and everything else for it running until the IS units start bursting into flames, or they go ahead and kill it off themselves - that would be my guess.
The key here, regarding ratings, is when were they allegedly above ESPN? I'd wager it wasn't recent. Ratings even from a year ago are less valuable than current ones, in this case.

Hi friends,
It's been a while since I've been around here; a lot has changed in the intervening years! I'm not sure who from the old guard is still around, but I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out. I'm missing a few of the packages from the 03-05 "Live By It" music elements we assembled years ago, and was wondering if anyone still had copies...just looking to round out the old setlist. Many thanks.

Yes, she's on today. She's been back doing shifts for a while now. Not sure if she's freelancing or on contract.

« on: April 08, 2016, 06:47:11 PM »Personally, I don't hate the Production music, something just needs to be done, because the production songs have grown very stale.
Perhaps, but it could always be worse....

Still gives me nightmares from high school trips to Canada. One song. All year. Every day. Over and over.

« on: April 02, 2016, 01:26:47 PM »What is the reason behind their love of the production music? Would it cost extra money to play anything else?
Also, remember that most, if not all, of the pieces currently used on the local forecast segments include their sonic brand, which means that they were likely custom-made for TWC, and probably do not include any licensing fees or royalties.
