If you had to pick a TWC meteorologist to do the IntelliStar Narration instead of Allen Jackson who would you pick?

I would probably have used Marshall Seese, were he still there.

General Discussion / Re: For those who still own VCRs

Meh..I guess this is more complicated than I thought. I connected an A/V cable from my VCR's video/audio jacks to the computer's, and I only get audio but not video
It's not complicated at all. All you need is an RF modulator, an S-video cable, and a composite cable. ;)

And the total price of all involved components will probably add up to almost half the price of a basic DVD player. Just curious, but why haven't you made the switch, or at least expanded to have VCR (current unit) and DVD?
Well, I have a DVD player but it's broken. Plus, I seldomly use it but I still use my VCR often. I realize using VCR's in this age is almost obsolete, but I still enjoy the convenience of tapes and being able to record over them compared to DVD's where I just wasted a disc if it records the wrong video.
There are DVDs that you can erase. They are called DVD+RW and DVD-RW. ;)

Indeed. Plus, tape will degrade real fast. To each his own, however. I still love to watch some of my old train tapes  :bleh:

On the last LF, I heard the narration say "Cooler near the lakeshore." Has anyone heard the is narration before?

I have not. However, I feel it is definitely a nice (and accurate) touch.

All I want is TWC to respect their elders, their names are Weatherstar 4000, Weatherstar Junior, and WeatherStar XL. They can start by either telling cable companies to put them out of commission or actually air LFs since they don't air those L-Bars.

Seriously? You've got it backwards, my friend. TWC is THEIR elder. They made the 4000, the Junior, or the XL. TWC holds NO, and I will repeat, NO requirements or conditions to what they "need" to do with their units-it's their property, and their channel. They do NOT answer to you, to me, or to any of us. You wanna "teach them a lesson" so-to-speak? Turn them off. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

According to Mike Bettes' Twitter, he is now back in NYC after the Tornado Hunt got suspended.
Why the suspension? What happened?

Lack of anything big for them to chase, I believe.

The purple only matched Evening Edition.. it doesn't really match with any of the current shows anymore other than Sunrise Weather, lol :P

Ahhh yes, the old Double E.

Can there be enough blue in that picture? :P
It's not blue, it's purple. /jtmal <_<

:P

I remember they HAD (have?) a purple scheme, and that definitely ain't it!  :bleh:

They need to focus a little more on focusing on studio set personnel lighting, vs. blue-ifying everything.

I want to say Stephen Arnold Music, for that music is similar to their style. Don't quote me on that.

I do not believe it was S.A.M. They DID provide music and graphics branding for the phenomenal second half of the "Live By It" brand, from 2003 to 2005. However, I don't think this set [2001-2002] was done by them.

Not sure if I see a blooper...

They went from Ryan live to Kim on tape from the same area of the studio without using any transitions effect.
I still wouldnt think of it as a blooper.. I see it happen in news productions all the time.

The label I'd give that would be "sloppy" not blooper.

My favorite part of this video is at 0:28, when they are interviewing someone (I think he's famous, but I don't recognize him :blushing:).

Interviewee: "But I don't watch [The Weather Channel] for the weather..."
Al Roker: "Then what DO you watch [TWC] for?"
Interviewee: "The news...and the sports."

Oh the irony that abounds in that statement by Will

I really like the 30th Anniversary images on weather.com, especially the ones showing the logo progressions and the different slogans.

And I had no idea there were so many different logos.  In fact, according to the image (though the '80s logos looked very similar and only had slight modifications to them), the present logo has been used the longest of any logo that has been used at TWC.  So for those of you who thought a logo-change was ridiculous, you may want to think again. ;)

Where are you seeing these images? The only ones I see are on-air meteorologist "age progression" photos.

Why in the world would they introduce a new logo? They had one created 6 years ago. And considering the amount of money they wasted on it...

A new logo isn't out of the question. I mean some channels change there logos just a few years apart from each other.
[/quote]

I am going to go out on a limb and say with near certainty that they probably will not introduce a new logo. Look at all the aggressive branding work they're doing with the current logo-especially on the updated weather.com. It wouldn't make sense, in my opinion, to use it as a key design element in something, only to can it later this year.
