General Discussion / Re: The Holidays Come Earlier Each Year
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:43:16 AM »
I think Christmas should not even be mentioned until the day after Thanksgiving, otherwise known as Black Friday.
Well put.

Is Thanksgiving even considered to be an important holiday anymore?
They sure do make it seem that way. After the election commercials, they seem to skip Thanksgiving and go right to Christmas commercials.

Well...what kind of Thanksgiving commercials can they have?

I honestly don't think it's that bad right now.  Probably this weekend it'll start going overboard in the media, but there is nothing we can do about it.  Complaining isn't going to help either

But yes, I think Thanksgiving is an important holiday.  In fact, it's probably my favorite holiday.  I get to see family that I only see on 2 occasions a year (Easter being the second), and you get to eat TONS and TONS of food  :twothumbs:  and of course giving thanks to everything you have.

I used to watch MADtv on a regular basis, no I am more of an SNL kind of guy.  I watch Maury and Jerry Springer.

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Lays off Staff

Definitely didn't see this coming, but like others, it's not surprising.

It'll be interesting to see who goes, if any on-air staff.

We've seen some snow here, too.  No accumulation at all, though.

Good choice in switching to Geography.  I LOVE geography as well.  When I was younger, I'd always look at maps at the store.  Geography has always been an interest.  In 7th grade.. I was in heaven when we made our own maps in our geography class.

Speaking of college, I visited Northern Illinois University this passed Monday, and I must say, I was really impressed.  Great campus.  The Science building is amazing, and has an observatory at the top.  The town of DeKalb is a little smaller than my city, so it'll be easy to get used to.  There was also another kid there, who was also interested in meteorology.  I'm going to try meteorology out, but I want to focus more on the broadcasting part of it, as that is what a local meteorologist did.  Hopefully I can do it.

Also, to Mike (replying to facebook comment):  I did not give up on Panera, my other job offered me A LOT more money, so I'll be returning to that job Monday.

Also.. I am getting a new car Saturday!! :D

I don't understand why you all seem so surprised that this is going on.  Doesn't it do this every year :P

there will be too much racism.
correction: there will continue to be too much racism ;)

People aren't going to become racist just because an African American is elected into the oval office.

Interesting situation this morning.  I got up, to find out that the power had failed last night.  So, I look at my phone, and oddly enough, I woke up just a few minutes after my alarm should have sound (which it couldn't because of the PF)  Btw...it was 8:30 ish on my phone.  I turned on the computer, and it said 7:30 :dunno:  I was like..what the heck.  Then I figured that this is the weekend that DST would start, say 2 years back.  I also figured that this could have happened because about a month ago, my computer crashed and it lost everything?  Could that have been?  :dunno:

I live just a few miles away from my school, so I for sure drive.  I rode the school bus in grades k-5, then I moved.  I still get up at 5:30 in the AM..so, doesn't really make a difference whether or not I took the bus or not. :P

General Discussion / Re: NBC Weather Plus Discussion
« on: October 25, 2008, 05:42:15 PM »
I just tuned in and they are showing a continueless satellite forecast loop with the "L" still showing its local conditions.

Oh and speaking of which, WEEK and WAND have NBC Weather Plus, the only NBC affilite that doesn't have Wx+ is KWQC. I'm able to pick up those stations and WAND and KWQC aren't avaiable on Comcast's channel line-up in my area. WQAD, the ABC affilitate from Moline, IL also has their own weather station too.
How do you know about WQAD and KWQC?  Anyways, yes, KWQC really doesn't do much NBC "stuff".  I don't recieve their weather channel, but I do get WQAD's.

I love Obama.  He is sharp and normal!  He also gets what is going on!

I hate Busch!  He's a clown.
Actually, a lot of people like Busch

But, since this is politics, it's safe to say many people hate BUSH!

(yeah..ima smartass :P)
