General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch
« on: June 10, 2010, 10:30:35 AM »
Pretty big police chase in the area today, and I actually witnessed it a portion of it. The chase lasted an hour, starting in the city of Pittsburgh, leading into the East Hills neighborhood of the city, then via I-376 into Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills, Swissvale, and ended in Monroeville. KDKA reports several police agencies were involved, including Pittsburgh Police, PA State Police, Allegheny County Police, Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Penn Hills Police, Wilkinsburg Police, Swissvale Police, Churchill Police, Forest Hills Police, and Monroeville Police. The chase originated in the city, so Pittsburgh Police took jurisdiction over the investigation. KDKA obtained surveillance video and they counted 26 police cars behind the suspect at that point in time.

After crashing in a very busy Monroeville shopping center parking lot, the suspect hit several police cars, injuring 3 officers:  1 Allegheny County Sheriff's Deputy, and 2 Pittsburgh Police officers. The two city officers where hit and thrown into the air, sustaining severe injuries to their lower extremities.

It's sad  someone would run from police and drive like that, putting literally the thousands of people he passed on the road at risk. Here's one of the videos via KDKA: http://kdka.com/video/?id=73163@kdka.dayport.com

People amaze me.  Luckily nobody was killed.  Anytime I hear about someone being hit by a car and THROWN into the air, I just can't even imagine living through that.  Hopefully those people fully recover.

I love Facebook's privacy settings.   My dad, aunt and uncle all added me on Facebook (being the good son and nephew I am [ha!], I added them), and now I can hide stuff from them (mostly photos and wall posts :P). (Not that anything bad is on my facebook.. I just don't think they need to know what is going on in my social life  )

Everything Else TWC / Re: Has TWC lost its way?

Lets try to appreciate some of the good things about TWC rather than continuously look at the bad things.
Really? Like what?
I still enjoy lot of stuff on TWC. Am I the only one? I like the local forecasts, tech revolving around it, majority of shows (ie Weather Center, Weekend Now), most of the OCMs, show graphics, etc.

I started realizing that when they didn't show my iWitness stuff, but I didn't want to discuss it until it became a fad around the forum. :hmm:
What didn't they show? They show stuff I send in. Sometimes though tornado or storm videos outweigh other submissions   :hmm:
I am sure The Weather Channel gets bundles of iWitness submissions.  They certainly do not have room for all of them.

Changing the subject of discussion.... This disturbs me quite a bit:

Kid slaps his own mother on Dr. Phil (5-20-2008)

NO adult deserves that much disrespect, and NO adult should take that.  ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS!  Little brat

It does not look like things are going to change anytime soon, so we are just going to have to live with it.

As Martin stated, local stations are the best way to get information on severe weather in your area.

I enjoy it as well.  Was not a fan at first, but after hearing x amount of times, I enjoy it.  Graphics are nice too (I do not like the ending of it though with that wave.)

Got my top two wisdom teeth out today; not pleasant.  My face is blown up like a chipmunk.

For dinner tonight, I had soup, applesause and yogurt :P

Speaking of wisdom teeth, the oral surgeon said that he has removed up to 9 wisdom teeth from one mouth! Unvbelievable!

I would just like to say that I enjoy The Weather Channel using the old studio as the "Expert Desk."  It's great that they can still have on-air use for that studio.

* Martin pumps life back into thread

Tripod for my D5000

Two Mountain Dew Distortions, one for me and meh friend. :)
That Mountain Dew better win!  There is nothing else like it.  They already have Tropical Punch flavored soda, as well as "Squirt" for the white kind.  It's also the closest thing that actually tastes like Mountain Dew. :D Love it!

The last thing I bought was a book for school  :hmm:

Has anybody else noticed that Stephanie Abrams is hardly ever on the show anymore?  :hmm: I believe she only worked 5 out of the 20 days she could've worked in May. What is "on assignment" supposed to mean anyway?
She is probably taping shows for "Weather Proof."   I like Stephanie Abrams, but I do not think she should be an OCM on any show.  She is too busy with other shows for TWC.  Same with Jim Cantore.  Rarely are they in studio (that I know of).

No, to me, Heather does not look too close to the camera.  I definately like the green screen better

Wonder what's going on

As I type this, the screen has frozen and just went black.  -->EDIT: Never mind, it's not just TWC, it's something on my end.

I really enjoyed the last batch of Tropical graphcis/music.  I have yet to see the new stuff.

However, I did see the Agatha title bar the other day and had a hunch that the new graphics would involve red.

I never had finals in middle school, either.  I havn't been required to take final exams until college, actually :P.  However, I only had to take finals once in High School, and then a few other finals I took to try to raise my grade.
