General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove

I don't really see anything special about 10/10/10.  It's just a normal day like any other.

Yeah, me either.  I don't see the big fuss about it.  Already on Facebook:
" I am proud to have been through 01/01/01, 02/02/02, 03/03/03...etc."  ANNOYING

Obviously it's just another day like the others. Some people just like paying attention to numbers. Some things may be interesting to others that aren't interesting to you.

So GET OVER IT!!!!! :club:
Yes, it may be interesting to others.  I'm just stating my opinion, just like everyone else has.

There was actually a baby born on 10/10/10 at 10AM.  The family should never forget that date :P

I guess they are using the Chroma key to make it easier to see the weather on tv. It does help since the video wall isn't very bright anymore, not saying it ever was.
Between the video wall having a blue tint, having the brightness go funky live on air, having the video wall backlights get darker and darker, the video wall borders (all having died at some point in time), having the center panel die at one point, I could go on, I'm surprised they're still using it for weather presentations. Just my opinion.

However, I will admit. I'm glad they're being smart about it and windowboxing their graphics on the chromakey as most of their graphics are not 4:3 safe.

EDIT [9:14am]: it seems Kelly Cass has acknowledged it, and her vague wording makes me believe this seems to be a longer term solution, as the video wall is still being used for non-weather presenting... It's like a major news network! lol ... link to facebook post

I noticed her post, too.  I like the chromakey better than the video wall.  A lot easier to see the graphics, and some of the OCM's don't seem so small on the chroma :P/

PS3!! Actually I think I use it as a blu-ray player rather than a gaming device. I find I don't really have time to play many games
Same boat here; PS3 and lack of time.  My brother and I used to be into all types of racing games.  I used to be a big fan of Tony Hawk.  I can't even remember the last time I played a video game.

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Getting Back Into Weather?
« on: October 06, 2010, 07:40:37 AM »
I have noticed a big effort by TWC to bump up the amount of weather coverage they are providing. Severe weather is exempting long form much more often, top of the hour live updates are frequent, and TWC has started to emphasize local on the 8s again. How do you all think they are doing (OCM choices aside)? I think they are slowly improving although there is still much work to be done.
I agree, Martin.  When I first saw the topic about The Weather Channel's schedule changing, I thought more long-form would be added, and I was pleasantly surprised.  It is so nice to come home for lunch and be able to catch an update on the nation's weather.  I also noticed a promo yesterday that was focused on local weather and Storm Stories together.  It was talking about the live weather updates during the Storm Stories, and local weather all the time on the bottum of the screen.  Maybe they are finally realizing what is important to the network.  Of course, we probably will never know truly  what caused them to change the schedule, but who cares. :P  Like you said, Martin, they have a long way to go.

So what do you guys think about TWC's "Live Action Radar' opener?

I think it's kind of cool.  I think it's also completely unecessary, but it's a neat little animation

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Re: Alexandra Steele Let Go
« on: October 02, 2010, 09:38:24 AM »
What the  :censored:? Every one on here, about a 1,000 users, should e-mail/facebook/twitter, etc and demand Keneely, Steele... back on TWC. Also, ask your friends and family to do that, too. NBC/TWC should listen to a few thousand of their viewers!
 <<this seems to be the emotion fo this type of situation..
You're waisting your time!  How many times does it have to be said;  They are gone for good.  No amount of e-mails complaining about TWC changing in general is not going to change a thing.

I agree with Jesse, it seems the network wants the blondes with a body, or at least a younger croud.  While I have no problem with that (as long as they know their weather), it's sad to see these knowledgable, personable meteorologists leave the network.  While I was not a fan of Alexandra, at all, it is still sad to see her 'let go,' I don't wish that upon anyone.

I really don't think we should speculate who's next to go.  In some way, I think that is disrespectful to that OCM.

Surely this must be a sign of the apocalypse.... They turned the lights on the maps back on at the little desk... How can I tell? They're brighter and I can read the labels on SD.

Great to know I am not crazy.  I wasn't sure if it was brighter, or it had been there the whole time and I just hadn't noticed :P.  Looks much better.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Schedule
« on: September 29, 2010, 04:49:04 PM »
Like many of you, I am really liking this new schedule.  Seems like a smart move to me.  As many of you said, having long form on from 5-7 is a great idea because that is when most people are watching their local evening news.  Brilliant.  That is probably when many families sit down and eat dinner or go over homework (if families still do that :P ).

I am a fan!
The only thing I don't get is the who Day Planner from 2-5 thing.  I don't think anyone is planning there day at 2PM (except the west coast, as some have mentione).  Oh well. As long is it is mostly weather, I'm good.

I've found that I've lost nearly ten pounds since I've stopped drinking soda about a month ago.
Congrats!  That sounds like a good idea.  I don't know if I could do it..too hooked on Mountain Dew :P.

I honestly hate people who always temper upon my backpack being heavy in the lunch line..  <_< My response would have been "well pardon my inconvenience but unlike you I prefer to use school in the proper way its supposed to be used rather than to horse around and act like were in middle school"
I don't get it.  I just don't get it.  Why do other need to put down what other people do, or simply put people down.  This is why I am glad to be out of high school, I don't have to see this BS go on day to day.  It angers me to see bullies. Let people be who they are and back off!

Well hopefully when Oprah is discontinued next year, they can put Millionaire at 4pm.
Oh I highly doubt that. The networks aren't going to risk loosing that huge talk show audience by playing a game show in its place. You can almost certainly bet on seeing some other similar type of talk show in its place
Exactly.  In many places, Oprah is the lead-in to the evening news, which might be a bad thing come next year.  The local NBC afilliate ("Number 1 station") airs Oprah at 3PM, and people stay to watch Jeopardy at 4, and then a local talk show airs at 4:30 leading into the 5PM news.  So, I agree with Martin that stations are going to try to get another talk show for the time slot.
