Everything Else TWC / Re: The Weather Channel | HD Discussion

Do they have the same amount of staff to run everything? They seem pretty understaffed during this shift and unable to change camera locations on the fly.
All cameras can be controlled by 1 (one) CCU operator who simply selects a camera, and moves the joysticks. From what I've heard there are a few extra people on hand for the new operations until things get settled.

Random thought: Could they theoretically turn the video wall into a huge chroma key? Wouldn't all they need to do is project a solid color onto the screen and move a few cameras?
It seems do-able, however chroma key is very picky on its hues and such, the color would have to be 100% consistent of its self across the whole screen, if they were to do this it would look pretty messed up as if / when the camera moves, the whole image will move with it.

Yea, my guess is that the wonderful workers at my headend are either...

A ) playing World of Warcraft
B ) taking their sweet little time upgrading their IS software
C ) just not doing anything at all
D ) doing something special with the STAR system, or
E ) installing an HD STAR system

The options are ranked in order from most likely to least likely.
Just so you know, your headend has nothing to do with this upgrade, it is all done by TWC and sent out to every IS via Network Control.

I wonder if EEWC will go fully live for the first time in HD tonight; there's a lot of severe weather going on tonight.

Nope, but Sharon's using the projector wall, and Rich is using the key wall. Looks like Master can only use the projector wall for one OCM per broadcast.
Just a quick note, Master Control, and full control (X3) have the same abilities now.

So the dual-feed feature isn't really a feature of the IntelliStar the way they make it sound?
The IS is downstream of the IRD, and in essence, it is the IRD that tunes the dual feed. The IS does receive the signal to change the IRD, from the TWC national feed, and then sends the signal back to the IRD via Ethernet, they do this by telling the STAR ID (25816, Orlando) to tune the IRD to the secondary feed, the IRD then tunes the signal. If they really wanted to, they could put a signal in the stream telling a particular IRD by its self to tune to the other feed, but they would have to find out what the IRD - ID (not STAR ID) is.

Seeing as the live segment control room is already HD, they can do weather update segments with the HD feed if they want. For people who get TWC HD via cable, the cable headends might not have the STAR's in place, but they do have the IRD boxes in place which TWC can flip over to receive the alternate feed.

Since when did the 2005 Evening Edition have a Severe Weather, First Forecast, or Storm Tracker opener? I don't recall seeing these openers at all.

They were originally produced as part of the package, but I don't recall them ever being used for those segments. However, I have heard the First Forecast track used on a few occasions as a "to bed" clip, the term used for music used before commercial breaks.
The term is just "bed" with out to, or "bed music". Commonly used during a transition between a VTR or Camera to a bumber / graphic out.

Name?  'cuz it's completely possible it's normal.
I've *never* seen him before, and they didn't key him a single time. It was for the tornado coverage.

So, what am I seeing, then?  I'm obviously seeing the new HD satellite forecast that came out last February.  When I turn on TWC, I have to type in 214.  If I wanted the standard TWC, then I have to manually hit Channel Up (there's two 214's)

What I have, is a Motorola DSR-4402X IRD receiver in place, I see each channel, as its own map; on each transponder, on each satellite  I don't have a Dish receiver. Dish receivers can view multiple (2) satellites at once and make one big guide out of two satellites.

From what you said, I thought TWC HD was on channel 214 (11276, H, 20000, 119) , when I found out it wasnt there, I scanned the transponder (cluster of channels within a group, 11276, H, 20000), when it wasnt on that transponder, I scanned the satellite (119) when I scanned the satellite and found nothing about TWC HD, I thought you were crazy. I think I found out where my mistake was...

Check this out, I'm sure you can figure this out but get in to your Dish Pointing / Dish Aiming selection in the Options menu (Mostly it's press Options, 6, 1, 1) and tell me if it says "Echostar 119 West" or "Echostar 129 West"... If it says 119 West, I'll eat my hat.

Vic, it honestly looks like Arial Narrow.

It also looks like a combination of Arial Narrow, and Impact.

Thanks.

Would anyone like me to upload any primetime clips? It'll be on my filefront.
Go for it!

Just scanned the satellite, there is no TWC HD transport stream... I think you might have seen a SD feed mix up.  :hmm:

Wait, what?  It may not be in true HD (yet), but it is the HD feed.  I don't know what you're getting at
There is no HD / SD: HD Feed on any of the Dish Network satellites, the only TWC feeds on here are of the true SD feed.

The DISH website claims they offer TWC HD.
Can you personally see it in your guide? or don't you have DTV?
